An initial audit of the Queen's collection of works of art has revealed that
she holds 9,000 paintings in trust for the nation, 2,000 more than previously
thought. The paintings - estimated to be worth at least £6 billion - are among
500,000 art objects that have been catalogued over the past five years. In the
1950s there were thought to be only 7,000 paintings in the collection, but
additions and searches in smaller palaces have revealed many relics from the
19th century. The Palace is now to put the collection online for study as there
has been a call for public viewing of the collection not part of the Queen's
private list of belongings said The Sunday Times ."We have finally completed
the long task of auditing all the works, which range from priceless old masters
to sets of Royal Doulton china, and are now discussing what to do next," said a
Buckingham Palace spokesman. A virtual gallery is one solution to access
without denuding the walls of Windsor Castle or Sandringham, but we have to
find the money for it," most profit from exhibits of parts of the collection at
the Queen's Gallery were put to use in restoration of Windsor Castle. At least
one half million works now stored at Windsor Castle have not been registered
due to a shortage of money .

It would be just as constructive to use Sandringham and Kensinton
Palace as display cabinets for the best of all the Queens works of
Art.Far better the public can see them in historic houses than in stuffy
museums. They can then gloat at all the accumulated wealth on display and
ask themselves the question why there are so many young homeless on our
city streets! In fact the royals could afford to buy up 3 or 4 stately
piles and furnish them in the grandeur that they were intended as a
monument to the excesses of Monarchy. They could then perhaps show that
they could make some money to give to the down and out of luck.

The Diana Memorial Fund has now got over 35 million pounds, when is it
going to give that money to the homeless??

The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund has been founded
to aid charities with which Diana shared strong ties and had chosen to work for
in her lifetime as well as to consider requests from other groups as they come
in on a case by case basis. The trustees , as of this point , must agree on
each cause carefully chosen to receive money from the fund. The Diana ,
Princess of Wales Memorial Fund was not formed to turn around and hand out all
of its money to any one group however needy they may be .

what's to decide? Diana already had done that.

No she had not done this as she knew about no fund within
her lifetime. . One of the first requests for help being studied by the Diana ,
Princess of Wales Memorial Fund concerned a letter sent to the fund about a
group of children who desperately need some funding and the item was put to a
vote by the trustees .

Spare us the lecture Nick! The Queen could make a bigger effort to make
it available to be viewed by the public.

Oh dear, so sorry we can't have art mailed personally to our homes.
Exactly what DO you mean by "make a bigger effort " ?Most of the art
collection is highly visible and on display at Hampton Court,
Greenwich,Kensington Palace,Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle , and there
is a biannually rotating exhibition at the Queen's Gallery on Buckingham
Palace Road, which is open year-round when the Palace is not.Plus items
are frequently loaned out all over the world. I suggest you get out of
your computer chair and actually go look at these things instead of
complaining, or are you just trying to make some pseudo-political point ?
