I haven't seen anything mentioned here yet about Trent's bizarre
behavior lately. It seems that ticket sales have been lackluster, and
since he's putting Nine Inch Nails on the back burner to try to go
Hollywood with "Year Zero," he trotted out West Indian Girl singer
Mariqueen Maandig for a photo op at the "Star Trek" premiere. Her
bandmate, Francis Ten, with whom she was previously intimately
involved, announced on the WIG website that Mariqueen and Trent were
engaged. For a long time, nothing was stated on Trent's own website,
nin.com, and moderators on the forums there removed posts regarding
the engagement, saying that Trent's personal life was off-limits for
discussion. At the same time, Mariqueen began posting all sorts of TMI
about her "mind-blowing orgasms," dates with Trent, her period, having
gas (I think she once tweeted from the toilet), something about
fisting, etc.etc. Trent apparently doesn't tell her to put a lid on
it, but when fans mention anything about the situation, their posts
get deleted. One of the deleted threads was called "Congratulations,
Trent." Too much personal info.

Based on the apparent timeline, it seems that they knew each other for
all of nine days before he supposedly proposed. Within two weeks, she
had moved into his house, and was posting pictures of some guy she'd
invited over to use the pool while Trent went out on tour. Yeah, get
engaged, and then go on tour, and leave your fiancé behind...

Their Twitter accounts are:
http://twitter.com/trent_reznor
http://twitter.com/Mariqueen

But wait, it gets weirder. A poster at Metal Sludge,
IggyPopWillEatItself, summarized the situation:

"So there's this drama going on on Twitter. Trent Reznor
http://twitter.com/trent_reznor had this contest on Twitter where you
could win tickets and backstage passes to the NIN/JA show.

"A few weeks later, Trent got involved in a benefit to help this sick
kid, and decided to raise money by giving free tix and backstage
passes to people who donated money. A $300 donation gets you a NIN
soundcheck and a meet & greet, a $1000 or $1200 donation gets you
backstage and dinner with the bands and crew. It's all for charity to
help that kid. Very cool. Details of that are here--

"But the problem is that after deciding to do the benefit thing, Trent
apparently decided that the Twitter winners who won backstage passes
for free didn't matter, and didn't bother to meet any of them. At
least for this particular show, don't know about others.

"This kid http://twitter.com/heyericgrant was one of the winners. Big
Trent fan, same with his brother, who flew all the way out to MA from
CA to meet Trent. He's all stoked. He and his brother are escorted to
a room after the show to wait with the other winners, about 30 other
people. The band never shows up. Finally after waiting for 45 minutes,
they're told to go home, that the band left an hour ago.

"The kid's upset, and understandably so. He's bummed that his brother
flew all the way out for nothing. He talks about how some girl was
backstage crying because the band didn't show. He starts posting all
about it on Twitter, including messages to Trent. You can click the
Twitter links to read all that.

"Now granted, the kid seems kind of annoying, and went on and on about
it on Twitter. And also granted, there was never any promise made of
meeting the band. Just the winners would get 'backstage passes.' Of
course, people assume that means they'll meet the band. Regardless,
this is what Trent tells him--

"'@heyericgrant what are you bitching about? Did you get tickets? Did
you get a pass? Shut the fuck up already!'

"Trent then posts--

"'@heyericgrant here's another idea- donate and you would have met us
all. Stop whining.'

"He won tickets and passes before the whole donation thing happened.
He didn't think he had to donate anything to meet them, nor should he
have had to. He even says he did donate $10 anyway.

"Trent then makes this post on the NIN forums, stating that he's not
going to honor any of the backstage passes given away in the Twitter
contest, and blames it on that kid and on someone else who complained.

"'If you won tickets / backstage passes from us on Twitter:

"'Let me clarify and modify the policy:
We began experimenting with giving tickets and backstage passes away
on Twitter, before we began using this privilege to raise money to
help save Eric De La Cruz' life. The incredible response to the
charity has raised around 900K and far surpassed anything we'd
imagined we could achieve. The consequences of this success means we
spend all day meeting and greeting people WHICH WE ARE HAPPY TO DO
backstage staring mid-afternoon leading up to showtime.
These donators are my priority, simple as that. I offered Twitter
winners TICKETS and a BACKSTAGE PASS. If you are a Twitter winner for
an upcoming show, you will still receive your FREE TICKET and a PASS
but the pass will be for memorabilia purposes only and will not get
you anywhere. There are too many people to accommodate and YES, I'm
prioritizing the people that chose to help the cause. If you'd like to
complain about this, aim it right at me and the people responsible for
the policy change: @heyericgrant and nin.com user thereeper for making
sure they clearly and repeatedly articulated their suffering to anyone
that would listen.

"'Sorry for your endless disappointments,
TR'

"Of course, on the NIN forums and on Twitter, all the Trent
nutswingers are agreeing with him, saying how dare these contest
winners expect to meet the band even though they won backstage passes?
They saw the show for FREE, and now they want to meet the band too?
Fuck 'em!

"While I think it's really great that he's doing that benefit thing, I
also think it's really shitty of him not to honor the initial contest
winners that won their passes before he decided to make it donation-
only. And I think it's even shittier of him to blame it on that kid
and encourage everyone to harass him. And I think telling a fan that's
bummed because he won a backstage pass and you never showed up to
'shut the fuck up' is even shittier."

In addition to publicly blaming this kid for not doing any more
Twitter contest meet-and-greets, Trent flipped out over some racist
bullshit posted by someone under the username "sammiesam," and offered
fans free tickets and backstage passes if they would "expose" the
culprit. With regards to one girl who was tweeting racist and creepy
nonsense, Trent tweeted that she wasn't anonymous, and posted her full
name and hometown, and mentioned that she had a criminal record.
Several people on the nin.com forum called Trent out on his behavior,
since it's against nin.com rules to post personally identifying
information about another poster, and the mods defended him, basicly
saying what he did was okay since he'd done it on Twitter, not
nin.com.

Then Trent took aim at Metal Sludge, posting on his forum:

"Looks like the Metal Sludge contingency has discover Twitter!
Finally! For those of you that don't know what this is, please let me
explain. Metal Sludge is the home of the absolutely worst people I've
ever come across. It's populated mainly by unattractive plump females
who publicly fantasize about having sex with guys in bands. Kind of
like a role-playing game where people NOBODY will fuck make up stories
about their incredible sexual encounters with people they WISH they
could fuck. It would be kind of funny in a sad and pathetic way except
the fun doesn't stop there - hate and good old-fashioned outright
blatant racism are also encouraged to spice things up and remind you
how truly ugly these scourges are. TRULY ugly on the inside (the
outside is obvious).
"Cutter's tip for my friends there: remember to cut along the length
of vein, not across. Bigger payoff."

This offended a fan, who posted on one site her experience at the PAID
meet-and-greet:

"I have to say that I am a huge NIN fan, or at least I was up until a
few weeks ago. My opinion of Trent has drastically changed since his
last twitter post. I have been a fan for the past 17 years through
high school, college and beyond. I have seen NIN in concert over 30
times in atleast four states.

"I had the greatest opportunity any true fan has, to meet the man. I
donated to the heart transplant fund and felt good about what I was
contributing too. I am a Registered Nurse and felt that the band I
cherished was doing something so wonderful. I had the opportunity to
meet Trent, and he was too busy checking his phone every minute or so
to actually pay real attention to the fans who had spend so much to
meet/greet him. I felt really let down because we were herded in like
a group of cattle, and then basically ignored while he twitted or
texted on his phone.

"Well…I am no longer the thin high schooler I was, and most people
know what having a kid can do to a woman’s body. I am an overweight
young thirtyish female. To read his last twitter post only days after
I had meet him, really hit home. I took the insult personally and
actually wondered for a minute if he thought I was desperate, fat and
disgusting when I met him. Needless to say, that put the cork in the
bottle.

"We all can not be the perfect hour glass shaped female that poses
nude in a men’s magazine. Not all of us can be in a band, be musically
gifted and be as openly sexual and vulgar as your fiancee can be. I am
sorry that I am the way I am, and I am sorry Mr. Trent Reznor if I
insulted or disgusted you in any way, shape or form.

"If you could post your address, I would be more than happy to mail
you back your CDs, DVDs, concert tshirts and other NIN merchandise I
have acquired over the year that has paid for your empire of dirt.

"Sincerely a truely disappointed fan,"

Reznor has alienated a lot of fans, and his antics are embarrassing.
He's a 44-year-old man who's hooked up with a 28-year-old woman (who
lies about her age, claiming to be 23), and gotten engaged after two
weeks, even though she's a heavy drinker/partier, and he's supposedly
a 12-stepper. She has tons of photos of herself on her MySpace and
Facebook accounts making out with and being groped by a wide variety
of men, and a photo of her giving some guy a blow job surfaced at The
Insider.

without a doubt, he's lost his damn mind. talk about your mid-life
crises! and i think the guy she had over to the house while Trent was
touring was her ex-boyfriend. he's an idiot if he marries her.

also, i've been to a couple of meet & greets backstage before and they
are no better than meeting the star at a book or record signing. you
get about the same amount of time as you would if you met them at a
regular signing. the difference is you can say you were backstage
(which, unless you're friends with the band, isn't all it's cracked up
to be) :-)

Well, I don't know that I believe the engagement is fake. I know
that's what the Trent fangirls are telling themselves but I personally
think that theory is silly, self serving & very far fetched. I think
he is really engaged.

Whether or not it's smart to propose to a girl you barely know is
another topic altogether. I can only quote the old cliche: Marry in
haste, repent in leisure.

My theory is that he's completely lost his mind.

Of course he isn't the first (and won't be the last) rock star to get
involved with a girl who has an IQ score in the lower double digits.
(see Motley Crue & their various women). Lots of rock stars have a
taste for cotton candy. That's not why I think he's losing it.

I based my opinion on his recent & destructive interaction with his
fans. He has a crowd of fans that will rationalize & applaud anything
he does, no matter how self destructive. That bunch would march behind
him off the side of a cliff if he told them to. That's not who I'm
talking about. He can recover from his engagement to a nitwit since
the vast majority don't give a damn about that. I am not so sure he's
going to recover from the public tantrums & the display of open,
obvious contempt for the people who pay his mortgage. He may have
finally gone too far & he's lost a load of fans over this. Couple that
with the loss of the disappointed fangirls & you are looking at a lot
of empty seats at the venue.

His post about the fat & unfuckable didn't help things since a good
portion of his loyal fanbase would have to be wondering what he REALLY
thought about them despite his lame attempt at damage control after
the fact. Absolutely retarded & a public relations nightmare.

As for me, NIN's tour came to a town near me & I stayed home. I
haven't liked any of his music in a very long time. He may have
finally gotten too elitist & superior for the likes of an old school
punk rocker like me. Perhaps I've outgrown him. Still love my old NIN.
Not really impressed with what I'm seeing from Trent today. I grew up.
I'm not sure he's even started.

At any rate, good luck to him. I'm afraid he's going to need it.

He might actually marry her, but I meant "sham" as in a Tom Cruise/
Katie Holmes or Will Smith/Jada Pinkett Smith-type of marriage for
publicity. I expect him to be filmed jumping on a couch any day now.
Mariqueen posted some photos of them kissing on her Facebook or
Myspace account, and when I saw them, the first thing I thought of was
that creepy Michael Jackson video that Wacko made when he was trying
to convince people that he actually had sex with Lisa Marie. Reminding
people of Michael Jackson in any way, shape, or form is probably NOT
the way most sensible people would want to end their career-defining
band.

> My theory is that he's completely lost his mind.

Either that, or he's having a steroid-induced rage.

Absolutely. "@mariqueen and I are an unstoppable force of greatness --
so suck it" and "fuck you, trolls -- I'll tweet if I feel like it"
sound much less like the words of a man in love than they do the words
of a man having a mental breakdown. I'm not sure if I should laugh at
him, or feel sorry for him. I used to laugh at Britney Spears, but it
got to the point where that just felt ICKY.

It's been about nine years since I've closely followed what Trent's
been up to, but I was happy for him when I read that he'd gotten
engaged. His announcement that he was giving up Twitter and social
networking sites because "idiots rule" the internet sounded really
extreme, though, not to mention naive for a guy supposedly so
technologically savvy. Since he blamed the whole thing on Metal
Sludge, I had to register there to find out what the hell he was
talking about, and from what I've read, the majority of the comments
there didn't turn venomous until Trent started acting like a douche.
He's just angry that he can't control the posters there the way he can
on nin.com and his Twitter.

Exactly, and he's not so thin himself anymore. I stopped finding him
attractive after he beefed up like a meathead and his neck
disappeared. Does he even have a publicist? I would think he would,
but if he does, why hasn't his publicist reined him in to prevent him
from committing career suicide?

I haven't paid much attention to his post-"Downward Spiral" music.
I've heard a handful of songs from "The Fragile" and "With Teeth," and
thought they were okay, but I prefer the older stuff. Until recently,
I regretted not having seen the band live, but now I don't feel so
bad.

I wish I had paid more attention when one of his previous girlfriends,
Nicki (Nyke Dogg), was stirring shit up on various forums, because I
read that there was a big meltdown on Metal Sludge because of it.
Unlike with Nicki, Trent's not trying to keep a lid on Mariqueen,
who's obviously going out of her way to rile up the fangirls, and
trolling the Ho Board for mentions of her name. I remember that years
ago, one girl posted there that she had had a fling with Trent, and it
ended when he called her and asked her to come to his house, and when
she got there, had her escorted away by security, who said something
like: "Mr. Reznor is busy now." Trent and Mariqueen deserve each
other.

Yeah, the one I went to involved people being hereded up like cattle.
But in the case of this recent tour, some of those people paid well to
be back there, so they should've gotten a little more than the chance
to watch Trent texting or Tweeting.

And speaking of that fundraiser, I read that Jerome Dillon was fired
from NIN because he was having heart problems. Where was HIS
fundraiser? Oh yeah, Trent wasn't "in love," and didn't have a tour/
miniseries to promote.

He's ALWAYS had a publicist.

The amount of control the publicist has is another subject
altogether.

I think he's always been like this. He & I have a bunch of people in
common so I have some basis for that opinion. For whatever reason, the
filters appear to be completely off with him & people are seeing the
real deal for the first time. As I said, there are loads of fans
ready, willing & able to rationalize & excuse everything they are
seeing & hearing out of him. But there are also loads of fans who
aren't. Not that you'd know that if you read the two Reznor sanctioned
sites, nin.com or Echoing The Sound because both sites are censoring
any & all posts that say anything even remotely negatively about
Trent. Especially interesting in light of his "Year Zero" album.
Apparently he sees art as resistance as long as it doesn't involve
questioning or criticizing him in any way.

That bit of hypocritical crap doesn't disturb the true believers.
Yet.

As for Mariqueen, I feel sorry for her more than anything else. Right
now they are in the "You & Me Against The World" bunker mentality.
She's loving every second of her brand new first class travel
lifestyle. The food. The shopping. The famous friends. The hundreds of
girls green with envy. Sooner or later, a little reality is going to
come into this. There has been no reality involved in their
relationship whatsoever from day one to now. His highs are high. His
lows are huge. I don't think she's ready for what she's going to get &
I don't think she's bright enough to be able to help. He's going to
blame her for everything. Because he's never ever wrong.

OMG this post is full of win. I lost ALL respect for him. I think it
is definitely a mid-life crisis. I can't even listen to his music
anymore. I mean wtf happened? Went from guy with an amazing mind and
musical talent to old guy who just wants a whore on his arm and acting
like a complete immature idiot. This is sad but i guess all good
things come to an end. Time for someone else to take his place.

The craziness continues... Someone at MS (maybe "warmleatherette")
came up with some soap opera names for this debacle, including "One
Life to Tweet," which I think is hysterical. Anyway, the latest
developments are:

1. There have been some allegations floating around about Trent
supposedly contacting underage girls first through Myspace and then
through Twitter. Now "Cashmere" is accusing someone named Jarret Wold
of "pimping for Reznor" using Twitter. Supposedly, Trent has offered
to "unblock" said girls' Twitter accounts if they apologize for saying
negative things about him. "Cashmere" claims to have reported Wold to
the FBI, and Wold claims to have reported Metal Sludge for libel.

2. Trent has started a new Twitter account (@halo7557, or something
like that) to talk shit to and about @AndreaUrbanFox and @RemySoho. He
called them "fat, insensitive, uniformed [sic] cunts," and "a pig and
a prostitute." Someone should report him for trolling, because he
started the @blocksunday account to block people he accuses of
trolling HIM. Oh, he also states in his main Twitter bio that his
account is outgoing only (no replies read), and that he will block
anyone who follows "known trolls." Well, if he's not reading replies,
who would give a shit if he blocked them? It's not like he's reading
replies anyway.

3. A woman named Maria Levitsky has popped up, and has been berating
Trent on Twitter for posting her personal info on nin.com. She claims
to have received two death threats. She said Trent used her and dumped
her, called Mariqueen a "second-rate substitute," implied that she
was pregnant with Trent's child, and made a cryptic comment about how
"blackmailing someone with coerced webcam footage" wasn't love. So is
she a crazy, a spurned lover (who might be crazy), or an agent of
Trent's trying to stir up online notoriety?

4. Trent has announced new tour dates.

Un-fucking-believable!

I have no idea if he's trying to hook up with young girls via Twitter.
I tend to doubt it. At least at this point in his life.

Having said that, I'd also tell you that it isn't unheard of for
members of the inner circle to use the internet to mess with some of
the more troubled fans. How involved TR actually got with this is up
for debate but I've heard he was in it up to his neck. He spends a ton
of time online.

I'd bet everything I own that Trent is reading replies. All replies &
he is not above getting a stealth account to attack people who piss
him off. Remember, I told you he spends a ton of time online. A ton.
Far more than he's ever going to cop to.

I've seen the Maria stuff & I think it's fantasy. In my opinion, this
is probably a great example of somebody who flipped out when the
engagement was announced. Throughout his career, he has had problems
with this kind of thing. I think it isn't being addressed by anyone in
the NIN camp because nobody wants to make a potentially bad situation
worse. But I would imagine it's being closely monitored. I've seen
Trent with a lot of different women over the years. I don't want to be
rude but frankly this woman is not exactly the type to catch a rock
star's eye.

In my opinion, Trent is head over heels in love with his fiancee.

In my opinion, she is head over heels in love with her new standard of
living. The first class travel. The first class expensive food. The
hotel suites. The limos. The shopping. The hobnobbing with
celebrities. Being on the road with a major rock band. I think that it
hasn't escaped her notice that being engaged to him will bring her &
her struggling band some notoriety. I think she loves that so many
women are desperately jealous of her. I even think she is getting a
big thrill watching Trent shred his career & reputation in her
defense.

But I don't think she loves him any more than I do. She says the right
things once in awhile but I don't think they ring true & certainly
there is little of the enthusiasm that she shows for eating lobster
for breakfast or finding a pair of $800.00 shoes online.

She's a young woman & I wonder if she will stay "in love" when she
finds out that movie premieres are not a weekly event for him. He
doesn't go to clubs. He doesn't go to shows much. He doesn't go to
parties much. The touring is ending. He isn't exactly Mr. Excitement &
he is always surrounded by that crowd of yes men employees who are
basically paid pals. I will be interested to see if that relationship
lasts once the new wears off & the mundane real life takes over. I
suspect it won't but we'll see. He's done a great deal of damage to
his career. I wonder if he'll think she was worth it a year from now.

It does sound unlikely, but I love a good drama, and this is turning
into a Jerry Springer episode!

I've heard that. That's pretty messed up. I don't know what they say
to those people, but I would worry about a situation like the one with
the woman who pretended to be a teenager on Myspace and bullied a
thirteen-year-old girl into killing herself. You never know how people
might react.

That's what I think, too. He should be more focused on his tour than
on what strangers are saying on the internet.

I didn't report them for libel I reported them for harassment. Going
"I'm going to report you to the FBI" over something that's horseshit,
is well harassment.

Further, if these morons would open up their forums I could see
exactly what they were saying (and respond) versus being relayed this
via a third party. However, you know ALL of my stuff is open,
available, not anonymous and using my real name. All of metalsludge
is well... not. I didn't name anyone specific because I couldn't, no
access to their site. So metalsludge llc was named in the complaint.

I can categorically call the "Trent has offered to "unblock"" bit
bullshit. I would be the one to know. I only received one DM ever
(over the lifetime of my account) from Trent and it was regarding me
requesting Velvet_Whip (twitter) to be unblocked as a cool thing to
do. And paraphrasing it was: ' anyone who follows a troll is still a
troll in my book'. So you know me asking one thing, gets some
douchebags on an anonymous forum ranting about me.

Poor Jarrett Wold, he doesn't know what he is talking about because
the fbi only investigates federal crimes not harassment and since it
is unclear if the MS poster contacted him directly then it's not even
harassment. These are the federal crimes the fbi investigates:
Aircraft hijacking, arms trafficking, arson, art theft, Bank fraud,
bank robbery, bribery, Carjacking, child pornography, cigarette
smuggling, Cockfighting ,computer crime, contract killing, Copyright
infringement, counterfeiting, Dog fighting, drug trafficking, Economic
Espionage Act of 1996 violations, Embezzlement, espionage, extortion,
Fence (criminal) , fraud, hate crimes, human trafficking, Identity
theft, illegal gambling, illegal immigration, income tax evasion,
Internet fraud, kidnapping, Mailbox baseball, Mail fraud, Mann act
violations, Misprision of felony, Misprision of treason, money
laundering, Piracy, political corruption, Prostitution of children,
Receipt of stolen property, RICO law offenses, Rum running, sedition,
terrorism, treason, white collar crimes, and wire fraud.

Why are the NIN fans so stupid?

Wrong http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx go there, click
through you will find an option called threats, followed by a
harassment section. False reports and threatening to file a false
report to the FBI *is* a federal crime.

Jarrett Wold jarret...@gmail.com please do file a compliant against
a gossip website because I'm sure the FBI will have a good laugh at
your expense. I looked at what was posted on Metal Sludge and the
poster doesn't claim to have reported you to the fbi, you fool. Maybe
you should have looked on Metal Sludge before you got your panties in
a bunch. Aren't you applying for teaching jobs? I would be more
concerned with why a school would want to hire a teacher/professor who
spend their free time posting stupid stuff on their public Twitter and
other gossip websites? Also, why would a school/college hire someone
who is 28 years old and still obsessed with a musical band who tells
it's fans how to cut their veins to commit suicide and is associated
with another Satanic band (Marilyn Manson)? Too weird. You are only
hurting yourself.

REZNOR'S FURY AT INTERNET ABUSE

Rocker TRENT REZNOR is fuming over online threats towards his fiancee
MARIQUEEN MAANDIG, branding the perpetrators "cowards".

The Nine Inch Nails frontman is furious after an internet campaign of
abuse targeted the West Indian Girl frontwoman - and has vowed to
physically attack those responsible if he ever meets them.

He tells rock magazine Kerrang!, "That kind of thing is particularly
cowardly because it's done online and that offers complete anonymity.
If someone on the street were to insult my fiancee I would punch them
right in their f**king face or their fat t*ts or whatever the f**k it
may be.

"But hiding in your mum's basement... and saying the kind of things
that some of these people have been saying online is not something
that happens in the real world. It only happens because these people
don't have to show their face or give their name, and that does get
under my skin. And I let it get under my skin more than I should
because I forget who these people are.

"It's not you saying that, or anyone with a job or any credibility.
It's cowards who say these things - unwanted, unremarkable people who
have nothing better to do. F**k those people."

He probably has borderline personality disorder. You see it in the use
of dramatics for attention and sympathy, the intolerance of criticism,
the belief that people owe him unswerving loyalty, and the inability
to own up to or take responsibility for his conduct. Borderlines "fall
in love" very quickly but when the superficial romantic haze fades,
they discover the lover is a real person rather than their fantasy,
and they begin to accuse them of disloyalty. It ends soon after.

You mean you actually wasted valuable law enforcement resources on
some online bullshit? Somebody had to read the complaint to be able to
dismiss it, time which could have been more usefully employed on
legitimate reports. True, it probably took only five minutes, but
that's added on to the five minutes for every other douchey, whiney
complaint, likely amounting to thousands of such worthless missives
they get each day. It's irresponsible and selfish to waste their time
on your personal feuds with Twiitter twits.
I've gotten many threats and false reports to authorities made about
me over the years, and often they were threats of extreme violence and
death, and I never once considered wasting law enforcement time on it.
Unless it's a violent threat, and one you have strong reason to
believe is credible and could actually be carried out, why on earth
would you bother the FBI with it? So some numbnuts on Twitter is
mouthing off- who gives a shit.

I don't suppose anyone managed to get screencaps (not long before TR
deleted his Twitter account) of his ranting & raving about how much he
hates Europe...? He was posting tweets about how much City X
(wherever he happened to be that night - Germany, Poland, etc.)
"sucks", only hours before going on stage and performing for his
audiences in those very cities! I thought I'd seen it all before
that, but...wow. Who does that?? Did he think nobody in Europe knows
how to use Twitter??

I caught the NIN/JA show in Toronto at the start of June (6th time
I've seen them live over the years), before I'd heard or seen any of
this crap (thank heavens, because I'd have been furious at myself for
wasting money on a ticket if I'd known I wasn't skinny enough to pass
the muster of the great Tyrannosaurus Rez). If he'd spent the day
leading up to that concert posting tweets about how much he hated
being in Toronto and how bored he was and how he'd rather be anywhere
but here and how much he misses Maaaaariqueeeeeeen, blah blah blah,
I'd have hoped the entire crowd would've literally turned their backs
to the stage as soon as he walked on.

(Well, okay. Maybe excepting those mindless automaton fans he has.
But those of us who prefer to think for ourselves...)

And now, despite his big, dramatic "goodbye cruel world!" speech at
some U.S. festival in June, he's scheduled more U.S. tour dates and is
even returning to Toronto in a few weeks. I'll be skipping this one.
He managed to mangle 20 years of admiration I had for him in so few
tweets! And to think I'd posted a blog entry defending his NIN/JA
setlist etc. after reading criticism about how "inaccessible" he'd
made his final farewell to fans. Now I want to delete the damned
thing. He's got me going back and forth like a ping pong ball! Damn,
he's good. And clearly his PR people are, too. [/sarcasm]

I haven't heard of any backlash coming as a result of his whining
about the European dates, but I did see that, despite his vow to never
do such a thing again, he'd begun responding with @ replies once again
to people who were pissing him off in whatever way. Perhaps he forgot
that his 400,000+ followers on Twitter weren't just Americans...?
Stupid, stupid, STUPID. I hope the crowds in the cities he insulted
gave him a really lousy welcome. And I also hope SOMEONE grabbed
'caps of his ranting, lest I be hit with a C&D letter or something due
to lack of evidence. :-P

No, but I remember that he tweeted he was in the middle of a "dreary
ride through Poland," and wrote "I'm sorry to hear that" when Dave
Navarro tweeted that he had arrived in the country. He tweeted that
he'd found "the only refrigerator in Europe that works" backstage in
Germany, and, in France, posted something like "Wow, a European that
doesn't smoke. Nice stroller." He also made some comment about
enjoying himself "even in Europe." What a way to put down an entire
continent! Very disrespectful of him.

There have been times when I've thought maybe he's being treated too
harshly, but then I read comments by people who knew him or were
acquainted with him, and most of them say he's always been an ass, and
that people are just seeing it for the first time.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any, but a couple a poster at MS has a
screen cap of his comment on her Myspace, telling her: "You are a
