LOS ANGELES - The "Juno" effect is the talk of Tinseltown, and it seems
every star and starlet has a different opinion of John McCain's running
mate, Sarah Palin, and whether her 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy will
affect their campaign.
"It's never easy when you're dealing with something like teen pregnancy,"
Eva Mendes said at "The Women" premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
"People need to look beyond that and give her [Sarah] the chance to have
her fair say."
"Entourage" actress Debi Mazar can certainly empathize with the situation,
as her mother had her at just 15. And regardless of her personal political
opinions, she believes Palin's nomination is a big step up for women.
As for "Murphy Brown" star Candice Bergen: "I heard her speech and it's
scary," she said.
We also caught up with "Celebrity Apprentice" bad girl Omarosa, who was
proudly wearing an Obama face across her chest, and as always, she didn't
hold back in voicing her condemnation.
"A conservative who is pro-life with a 17-year-old daughter having a baby -
gosh, that won't affect their ticket at all," Omarosa said sarcastically at
the EA Sports Facebreaker Launch party on Wednesday.
And even though Heidi Montag has been very vocal about her support for John
McCain over recent months, "The Hills" hottie kept pretty quiet about the
Palin controversy.
"I just wish them all the best of luck," she told Pop Tarts, with beau,
Spencer Pratt (of course), nodding in agreement.
Fellow reality star Kim Kardashian didn't feel comfortable commenting on
the controversy, while her upcoming "Dancing With the Stars" competition
Lance Bass (who has already lost five pounds from two weeks of training)
thought things were all a "little crazy" with the pending election.
"It's very important for people to listen to the candidates and what they
have to offer rather than buying into the drama," Bass said.
Scarlett and Ryan's Date With Michelle Obama
While young celebs were talking Palin and politics in the heart of
Hollywood on Wednesday, other stars were on a dinner date with Michelle
Obama at Samuel L. Jackson's private Hollywood Hills home.
We're told Scarlett Johansson and her fiancé Ryan Reynolds fluttered around
the fundraiser (which apparently raised more than $1 million for Obama's
campaign) and held hands the entire time, refusing to leave each other's
side.
Magic Johnson was also a star attraction at the party, and was joined by a
fashionably late Denzel Washington, whose excuse for tardiness was that he
was watching Sarah Palin's GOP address. Despite rooting for the other side,
Washington reportedly gave Palin's speech the thumbs up.
Avid Hillary Clinton supporter Barbra Streisand seems to have happily
jumped ships and showed up to meet Michelle for the first time. The
songstress was reportedly listed as a VIP, which means she must have
donated a minimum $28,500 to the presidential nominee.
By the end of the evening, the first lady hopeful was obviously a little
tired of playing host and decided to wander around the swanky soiree
barefoot, we're told.
Britney Owes Her Life to Daddy
Britney Spears has certainly come a long way since her opening of the 2007
VMAs, and we have her father (and co-conservator) Jamie Spears to thank for
her comeback.
"My father saved my life. I probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for
him," Spears told the U.K.'s Daily Star. "I owe him my life."
According to author Ian Halperin (who is currently working on a tell-all
book about the pop princess), Spears attempted suicide twice during her
recent breakdown.
"I spoke with her many times and went to her house. I will say the suicide
attempts are true. I know all the details about both of them," Halperin
told Life & Style magazine.
Lohan's Ex-Boyfriend Forced to Be Celibate
Lindsay Lohan might not be getting too much male attention right now, but
her former flame Calum Best isn't allowed to have too much luck with the
ladies either.
Best has been busy filming a reality show for U.K.'s MTV entitled "Totally
Calum Best," where he has to give up sex (or any derivates) for 50 days and
50 nights.
The 27-year-old former fashion model has to remain totally celibate while
flocks of the hottest near-naked females that the casting crew could find
throw themselves at him.
For someone who's been linked to the likes of Lohan (and sold intimate
details about her to tabloids), model Lorna Hogan, as well as Elizabeth
Jagger, Kimberly Stewart, Rebecca Loos and Sarah Harding (just to name a
few), this challenge will be particularly difficult. .
