Barker says O'Donnell could replace him on 'Price Is Right'
The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES-Bob Barker endorsed his old friend Rosie O'Donnell as a
possible successor on "The Price Is Right," although the newly retired
host isn't sure CBS wants a woman to take over the game show.
"I believe they're going to have a meeting with Rosie," Barker said
backstage Friday night at the Daytime Emmys, where he won his 19th
trophy.

"She knows the show. There's no doubt in my mind she could do the
show. Now, whether they want a lady host, I don't know. I've never
heard that discussed. As far as I know, they've only auditioned men."

Barker said his friendship with O'Donnell goes back several years,
when she had him as a guest on her old daytime talk show.

"She told me she loved 'The Price Is Right' and wanted to host it one
day," he recalled.

Among those mentioned as possible replacement hosts have been Todd
Newton of the E! network, Mark Steines of "Entertainment Tonight,"
George Hamilton and John O'Hurley.

Barker retired last week at age 83 after 35 years giving away
vacations and cars on the hit CBS game show. But he said he may be
back with some specials featuring vintage clips and guests.

"If it works out, I'd like to do that," he said.

Out of all the possibilities mentioned, honestly, I like Rosie the best.
She LOVES game shows, she gets excited giving away stuff, and she could be
funny but not a chance to make political or "controversial" comments. I
could easily see Rosie as host of TPIR.
I wouldn't watch if any of the men mentioned were hosts, but I would watch
Rosie, or similarly, Ellen DeGeneres (who also loves giving stuff away to
audiences, but she's probably too busy with her talk show).
Maybe it is time for a woman to take over the show....who else does all the
shopping???

NO WAY, NO HOW!!! Rosie is a lightening rod, either you like her or you
don't. Also she has the stink of the view fiasco, feud with Trump and the
fact that there is no way that CBS could or would pay her what she think
she's worth to host the show. I mean she thinks she's gonna get 30
milion dollars a year post-The View? Thirty Million to host a game show?
Nobody is worth that much, not Rosie, not Bob Barker, not even Regis Philben
(when he got 25 million to host Who Wants to be a Millionaire, critics
thought it was the beggining of the end).

Right now it's looking more like John O'Hurley to get the nod. He did a
great job on To Tell The Truth a few years ago and is doing a bang up job on
Family Feud now. Give O'Hurley TPIR and give Rosie o'fat Family feud,
she can kiss all the lady contestants like Richard Dawson did so many years
ago.

I'm wondering how much Bob got? I'm surprised Regis isn't one of the
candidates.

Because he just had heart surgery? He's still extrememly weak. Bob got
around $10 million a year, but he was also a producer, not just a host.
In fact I think he still holds onto excutive producer status after he
leaves.

Bob's had a good long run. I never watched the show except once in awhile
with my Mom when she was alive.

He should apply if he didn't already. He's a darn good host.

He certainly is a good host. I don't think that would convince me to watch a
game show. They certainly
wouldn't need me to help with their ratings, though.

I haven't watched it in years, but I still love the show. I just don't
have the time. I started when I grew up in Santa Ana, CA. (Orange
County). My mom's been watching it for years. She's hooked. She'll
miss Bob the most.
