LONDON (AP) - A 1932 Picasso painting of a young lover was sold at auction on
Tuesday for almost $24 million, Christie's auction house said.

An anonymous buyer paid $23.9 million for "Nude with a Necklace" at Christie's
in central London.

The painting, one of the main attractions at a three-day sale of Impressionist
and modern art, was completed at the height of the Spanish painter's
relationship with Marie-Therese Walters and portrays the blonde, blue-eyed
young woman naked except for a necklace.

Pablo Picasso met Walters in 1927 when she was 17. He reportedly stopped her in
the street and announced: "I am Picasso. You and I are going to do great things
together."

"The fluid, sensuous forms of the painting reflect Picasso's love and desire
for his young and beautiful muse," Christie's spokeswoman Alexandra Kindermann
said.

Kindermann said the painting was sold by a private European collector who did
not wish to be identified.

I thought the same thing! What the heck was Picasso smoking when he
painted this 24 million dollar masterpiece?! I thought the wallpaper
image of the man and woman underneath the Picasso pic is incredibly
beautiful.
