I would like our friends from 'Down Under' to know that as an American, I
was not in the least bit insulted by the tribute afforded to the Jacksons.
Unfortunately, here in the states there are still people who have no sense
of humour. I'm sure the Jackson family would be honored if they had seen the
skit.

Jackson blackface skit sparks race controversy

Australian TV show apologizes to shocked guest judge Harry Connick Jr.

ADELAIDE, Australia - An Australian variety show host has apologized for a
skit in which singers parodying the Jackson Five performed in blackface.

American singer and actor Harry Connick Jr., who was serving as a guest
judge on Wednesday night's "Hey Hey It's Saturday," was visibly shocked by
the skit, in which four men with afro wigs and blackface sang and danced
behind a Michael Jackson impersonator wearing white makeup.

Connick, 42, gave the performance a zero score and told them that if it had
been done in the United States it would have been pulled off the air.

To some it would be insulting. Some people take things a lot thinner
than others.
I personally didn't care for the skit.
But I find it funny, when comedians like Jack Black make a movie
mocking Jesus Christ...
no one was offended?

Get real, in any case. When someone mocks Christ anywhere in
the world the whining from you guys is loud enough to heard
up here. That has nothing to do with dressing in blackface,
which is racist.

It's objectionable because it expresses disrespect and contempt.
However, I don't find anti-religious jokes objectionable in the slightest,
and no one else should as well. Does anyone have any really tasteless
anti-church jokes? I could use a few.

Quite ironic , because H.K jnr was shown doing exactly the same thing
a few years ago.

A good 'balancer' should be five black guys 'whiting up' and doing a
skit on the Osmonds.

Who would that upset?

Perhaps blackface performance doesn't carry the same
connotations in Australia that it does in the United
States?

In the U.S., blackface almost always centered on the
actors' portraying demeaning, racist stereotypes of African
Americans, so the style rightfully felt into permanent
disrepute.

Certainly not me. In fact, I'd find that a lot funnier than the old standard
black-face routines.

Thanks mate. Australians aren't bullshit artists like our American
friends.

We aren't as politically correct, and dare I say, as insincere and
hypocritical.

We believe in calling a spade a spade. Whoops! No racism intended.

But we just don't take the piss out of the blacks, anyone's fair game
to us.

We even hold an annual dwarf throwing competition up in Queensland.

You've gotta love that, haven't you?

Judicial corruption exposes institutionalised racism that reaches all
up the way to the High Court Australia. An officer of the Royal
Australian Navy is left without medical care as he was harassed
victimised and unlawfully discriminated against as he exposed unsafe
working conditions in the Navy, that put public safety and lives at
risk.

He approached HREOC with a complaint under HREOCA1986 and RDA1975;
what he found was institutional racism, coverup and perverting of the
Human Rights Act, violating Australia's obligation under International
Treaties ICCPR and ICERD. The president of HREOC, John von Doussa
violated HREOAC1986 in refusing to investigate his White mates, and
then refusing to terminate the complaints so that it can be heard in
the Federal Courts.

More institutionalised racism occurred at the Administrative Appeals
Tribunal, where Senior Member John Handley proceeded to pervert
justice by fabricating documents and evidence.

Questions of Law will be asked of the validity of the HREOAC1986 and
RDA1975 as the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee,
chair and co-chair, Senators Barnett and Crossin indicated that
Inquiries into Access to Justice, Australia's Legal System and the
Role of Judges should not be of assistance to Australian Citizens of
ethnic backgrounds.

Institutionalised racism and corruption in the Judiciary have made
political prisoners of Aborigines such as Lex Wotton, dogwhistled to
corrupt police leading to Black Deaths in Custody, putting public
health and safety in jeopardy, and allowing a four (4) year old
Aborigines girl to die after having been refused medical care at a Qld
hospital, political assasination of Phuong Ngo, political assasination
of Frederick Toben.

They set them up to fail and when they fail, they call them inferior
and lock them up.

Racist and corrupt White nation inciting racial hatred and Black
Deaths in Custody, reduce the Black Man to fight for his basic human
rights

The High Court Australia has been labelled racist by Justice Michael
Kirby. The Australian Michael Pelley called the High Court racist and
hyprocrites. They are so afraid of the HREOCA1986, because even the
High Court Australia must obey an Act of Parliament.

Corrupt and racist Judiciary will fight with all its might and means
to deprive us of HREOCA1986, to deprive us of Habeas Corpus as we file
such writs for Lex Wotton, Phuong Ngo, and Frederick Toben. We might
not like their politics or ethnicity, but their loss of judicial
independence and fairness, and their experience of judicial abuse of
discretionary powers will greatly affect us all now and in the future.

Until Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee and Australian
Parliament secede from ICCPR and ICERD, even the High Court must obey
HREOCA1986. We must fight for HREOCA1986 even if the Corrupt changes
its name, because it is the only Bill of Rights we have."

Considering the horrible way Australians used to (and
maybe in some case still do) treat the aborigines, this
was a definite insult. I can't believe that the performers
are that ignorant of their own history.

There was nothing in the article to support this.
You still haven't provided proof of this, since
it isn't true.

Everyone, black or white, due to its stupidity and
reverse racism. Of course, it wouldn't bother people

Meh, the US murdered "their" children and stole their lands, India still
murder "their" children and stole their lands, the same happened in the
UK, the same happened in most countries of the world in fact at some stage.

The saving grace for Australia is that the truly indigenous people of
Austalia had already been wiped out by the invading so-called
Aborigines, we took it from the invaders.

SO what was your point again? You're not a silly merkin that pretends
your history doesn't exist cos you have the divine right of god yadda
yadda are you? That would mean you confuse makeup quality with racism

As much as it pains me to agree with the poster you're replying to, I
think his (for once) very good point flew right over your
buried-in-the-politically-correct-sands head.

Whilst you seem to confuse makeup quality with racism, we good
humouredly take the piss out of everyone. Doesn't matter if it's based
on hair-colour/sex/race/religion/sporting/job/place of residence/taste
in food/insert anything else you like here. The difference being you
guys will turn jokes into a national uproar of indignation and threaten
to go to war over it, we just laugh and buy the bugger a beer and say
"good one".

Which society sounds more peaceful and civilised to you?

You're an idiot... I can't think of a nicer way to put it. This had
nothing to do with Aborigines (who by the way had a much cushier history
than your natives. The performers by the way were a very multi-cultural
group, the person who organised the whole thing was of Indian descent,
and he was taking the piss out of African-American performers in a
rather boring but totally non-offensive way.

So when you get off the acid you may want to comment on what actually
happened rather than inserting your hallucinations into the conversation.

Shouldn't bother anyone if meant as a good-natured joke, unless of
course you're in urgent need of a tampon.

Not at all, negrito pygmies come to mind. But even if you want to
exclude that theory we still didn't come close to what you merkins did

Some of you Aussies seem to have a serious inferiority complex.
Some washed-up American actor whines about a lame act on one of your TV
shows and you go on the defensive.

If an Australian actor threw a temper tantrum on one of our lousy TV
shows we wouldn't care.

The most surprising thing about that act was how painfully unfunny it
was. And I thought American TV was bad.

Thanks, I think...

Also keep in mind that those harpies on The View do not represent
America. Every heterosexual male in America DETESTS that show, and I
really don't think that many women enjoy it either. The ignorant things
they said about Australia is rather normal for them-- except they
usually say ignorant things about their own country.

Yes you are a bigot. You're also ignorant and too gutless to take any

How is it going on the defensive laughing at him and making a point of

Some of you yanks seem to be pathetically precious, jesus you put this

Haha go see a shrink about your issues of projection, I reckon people
are great, of all races/religions and whatever else, it'd be pretty damn
boring if we were all clones. But I do admit to taking some pleasure in
poking uptight people with a stick now and then. Can have two effects,
it can help them to realise what fools they are being, or it can piss
them off even further (all part of the afore-mentioned process, just
means the tree-trunk is wedged further up your arse than a few prods are
able to dislodge).

Lay off the turps for long enough to see where you entered this thread
and what you entered it with. Your adled memory is not a problem, you've
got usenet as a defacto memory! 8]

But really lets get back to the original point that you have
side-tracked so far from, you have make-up issues don't you!!!!!

That's fine, but don't lump all Americans in with Connick. The only
talk show I've seen that has covered this here is The View and like I
said, no one here takes anything that those bitches say seriously.

I'll agree Connick overreacted (He looked as if someone had bludgeoned a
puppy to death or something), but you have to understand the politically
correct climate Americans live in. Most Americans would get
"uncomfortable" with anything that resembles blackface.
Here's the unspoken rule: A black American like Whoopi Goldberg has the
right to react however she wants to something like that sketch, but a
white person MUST repudiate it or else appear racist. A public
perception of being a bigot is a career-killer.

Here's a controversial clip from an '80s sitcom about blackface:

We can see your misogynist insults. Your words won't go away.

Take responsibility for your own actions.

Misogynist insults to thin-skinned holier-than-thou low-brows perhaps,
we Aussies tend to call it taking the piss! 8]

You're like a little worm, the more you're prodded the more you evade
your short-comings! 8]

Trust me, I don't. Whilst piss-taking is all good fun, and poking idiots
like Ray Fischer is all good fun, I'd have to say the US and Oz are very
close countries, with a great number of differences but also a great
number of similarities.

Sad that they're still on air then, but then we've got some pretty
embarassing shit on air too.

Ahhh, but they have no problem if it's done with high quality makeup
(such as in that movie "Tropic Thunder"). Pretty stupid if you ask me,
but then we have sheeple here who also suffer from stupidity in many
ways, such as their irrational fear of nuclear power. Every country's
got fools when faced with certain scenarios. Irrational tabboos will
always be with us.

I just can't get the smile off of my face thinking that the whole issue
seems to be the quality of the makeup used. 8]

How so? I don't see any misogynistic insults, that's purely in your puny
fragile mind. It appears you have a persecution complex.

The real issue was that Harry Connick had a problem with the label of
black persons as buffoons.

Is it impolite to call Barrack Obama baboo (aka diddly squat)?
