One of you has to know what I'm talking about!
Thanks -- I'm burning a CD for someone and *must* put this on it.
I have never heard this in my life, but I just did a Google search and
came up with:
The Chambers Brothers---Time Has Come Today
Time has come today
Young hearts can go their way
Can't put it off another day
I don't care what others say
They say we don't listen anyway
Time has come today
(Hey)
Oh
The rules have changed today (Hey)
I have no place to stay (Hey)
I'm thinking about the subway (Hey)
My love has flown away (Hey)
My tears have come and gone (Hey)
Oh my Lord, I have to roam (Hey)
I have no home (Hey)
I have no home (Hey)
Now the time has come (Time)
There's no place to run (Time)
I might get burned up by the sun (Time)
But I had my fun (Time)
I've been loved and put aside (Time)
I've been crushed by the tumbling tide (Time)
And my soul has been psychedelicized (Time)
(Time)
Now the time has come (Time)
There are things to realize (Time)
Time has come today (Time)
Time has come today (Time)
Time [x11]
Oh
Now the time has come (Time)
There's no place to run (Time)
I might get burned up by the sun (Time)
But I had my fun (Time)
I've been loved and put aside (Time)
I've been crushed by tumbling tide (Time)
And my soul has been psychedelicized (Time)
(Time)
Now the time has come (Time)
There are things to realize (Time)
Time has come today (Time)
Time has come today (Time)
Time [x4]

This is definitely the song you're looking for, doomella. I couldn't
remember who it was by. Nice work, fiatflux :)

The Ramones do a great version of it, too.

That's it! Thank you so much... And you're a much better Googler than I am,
and I thought I was pretty infallible!
And I may be mixing the Chambers Brothers up with all kinds of other
Brothers bands but I remember being surprised that a band that lame would've
sung this pretty kick-ass old song. I'd sort of pegged them as a
Chicago-esque type deal. Anyway, thank you.

I'm trying to download it right now. (So, apparently, is everybody else! I'm
remotely queued everywhere!)
They were slightly before Chicago. And at the beginning, Chicago was called
Chicago Transit Authority or just CTA and was a lot more cool before they
became the 80's lame ballad group. Lots of brass, cool songs.

I shiver with anticip-p-ation! (Downloading *that* one right now!) And
would you believe that I was just listening to Dee Dee King as I read this?
My playlists owe you quite a bit of thanks; aren't you the one who
identified "Born in Xixax" for me? And now I'll step off the stage with all
the gratitude posts because I'm beginning to feel like one of those
Assistant Key Grip Oscar winners who don't know the difference between a
filibuster and an acceptance speech.
Oh, nay, doomella! The Chambers Brothers were a fabulous rock-and-soul
band!! Their "Time Has Come Today" lp was chock full of rockin' grooves. I
own the old vinyl album. That doesn't date me, does it? ;-)
