NY POST....NEAL TRAVIS...
AS his family continues the sad task of tidying up the vast estate of slain
designer Gianni Versace and restructuring his fashion empire, some classic
works of art and prime real estate are coming on the market.

Sotheby’s London next Tuesday will offer 25 Picassos that were owned by
Gianni. There are fine examples in the collection, and several are expected to
attract bids in excess of $10 million.

"The market for Picassos is very strong right now," notes a Versace family
spokesman. Wisely, though, Gianni’s executors aren’t going to depress it by
dumping too many treasures on the auction block at once.

I understand some of the Picassos have comefrom his Miami palazzo, on the steps
of which he was slain. The mansion itself is being sold because of the tragic
memories it has for the family.

I don’t know what they intend to do with the Upper East Side townhouse on
which Gianni lavished so much time and money. It, too, boasts a staggering art
collection - mostly moderns such as Schnabels, Warhols and Lichtensteins.

Schnabel, who did at least two portraits of Versace, has written that "Gianni
wasn’t the kind of person who would have one work of art by an artist just to
say he had one. He embraced [art], like his total embrace of life."
