This modest motel, conveniently located in West Hollywood, enjoys
visits from more than just budget conscious tourists. One day a very
famous actor, who is frequently mentioned on this website, walked up to
the check in desk. This hot guy has an off-beat personality that really
appeals to his legions of female fans. On that day he was with a male
comanion, described as "a goodlooking well groomed mature man with grey
hair." The actor paid for the room with his charge card and the two
guys disappeared into the room. The clerk was surprised to see them
leave after an hour. What were they up to? Drugs? Sex?

I smell a set-up. Why use your Real Name credit card to pay for a cheap
crummy room unless you want everyone to know you were there? $200 on a
room and an hour of your time is probably a cheap way to buy some column
inches.

Bingo! Talk about an offbeat hunk -- who else could it be, with clues
like that? I'm curious as to how old the *mature* guy he was with was.
You know, what struck me as shakier than anything was the existence of
a clerk at a *modest* West Hollywood hotel who'd actually be
*surprised* that a male couple would check out after an hour.

The need for some gritty reality? Edginess? The Hollywood crowd must
get tedious as hell after a while -- it's even boring *reading* about
their parties, let alone the PR-driven nightmare of having to attend
them, baring your choppers to be photographed by the right people
*with* the right people, with some type-A basketcase with a clipboard
calling the shots and squealing at you to move on so you can be taped
shmoozing with somebody else.

It's probably easier for the "rich and famed" seeking an edge to find
any semblance of anonymity in the "underworld". They can hardly
"disappear" into the middle/lower-middle classes, which contain the
hysterical mobs who worship them. Prostitutes, drug dealers and people
who're primarily worried about survival, getting their next fix and
keeping under the radar are less likely to blab or call the tabloids;
and more likely to be ignored if they do.
