FOUR MONTHS is all he got for this? I've seen people who wrote bad checks
get longer sentences!

The only consolation is that he will be at the bottom of the food chain in
prison.

Judge slams child sex pervert Glitter
GARY Glitter's repellent library of hardcore child porn plumbed the depths
of depravity, a stunned court heard yesterday.

The ageing glam rocker spent up to 12 hours a time hunched over his computer
downloading more than 4,000 images of abused children to feed his
"voracious" appetite for filth.

The images included pictures of youngsters being raped, tortured, tied-up,
gagged and blindfolded. Some of the pathetic victims were as young as two.
Mainly they were aged from about three to nine or 10.

One particularly vile image featured a gagged girl of seven with her legs
tied together and showing signs of a savage beating. It was entitled "The
lover's guide to better child sexual abuse."

Others showed a girl with her genitalia gripped by a clothes peg and two
small children tied and bound lying on a bed.

Branding the material "filthy" and "revolting," Mr Justice Butterfield told
the 55-year-old paedophile: "The effect on the innocent children whose
bodies have been abused for the perverted taste of men like you can hardly
be imagined.

"The quantity of material here and its particularly repulsive nature coupled
with the sophisticated, persistent and diligent way you collected it, makes
a custodial sentence justified.

"This is not a victimless crime. The victims are these little children whose
images you wished to view."

He jailed Glitter - charged in his real name of Paul Gadd - for four months.

After the sentence was handed down, the star hesitated. Then he bowed his
head, wiped his mouth, and was led to the cells.

His shame was in stark contrast to his delight hours earlier when he was
cleared of eight underage sex offences with a besotted fan. He will now go
on the sex offenders register for the next seven years.

Last night, the NSPCC criticised the sentence as "very light." A spokesman
said: "We must never forget that these horrific images are real children who
have suffered terrible abuse at the hands of dangerous paedophiles."

Glitter, who was appearing at Bristol Crown Court, admitted 54 offences of
making indecent photographs of children.

As each of the charges was put to him he started off by replying "Guilty" in
a strong voice.

But as they flowed on in an apparent never-ending stream his voice became
less clear. At one point. he appeared to be holding back tears.

As the last few charges were read, the singer only nodded to indicate guilt
and stood with bowed head. Prosecutor John Royce, QC, then told how Glitter
was unmasked after buying a pounds 4,700 computer to feed his lust for
Internet porn.

Two years ago, the machine developed a fault and he took it to a PC World
near Bristol for repairs.

Glitter told the technician not to look at the files. But the specialist had
to go into the system to see if he had mended the fault.

To his horror, he discovered a picture of a naked man engaged in a sex act
with a young girl. More filth was found and police were alerted.

When arrested and interviewed, Glitter made no comment.

But an initial examination of the computer revealed that it had been
extensively used to download and store the "most appalling" images of very
young children engaged in vile sex acts.

Glitter continued to plead his innocence. But examination of his hard disc,
Internet provider and phone records confirmed he had surfed the Net for
kiddie porn.

After paying private members' subscriptions to gain access to sites he had
downloaded his obscene collection. One had a software programme for hiding
files.

Among sites he "visited" were Lolita Triple X, Fresh Petals and Alt Binary
Young Boys. Others promoted contacts between paedophiles.

Mr Royce said: "He had an appetite for child pornography that was, bluntly,
voracious. Day after day and week after week, he spent literally hundreds of
hours logged on, seeking out material of the sickest kind.

"Sometimes he would be logged on for six to 12 hours in his quest for more
appalling material.

"He succeeded in building up a vast library filed under different headings
to view as he wished. There were well over 4,000 such images, mostly of very
young girls but many of very young boys.

"Lest anyone is in any doubt, this library was about as hard core, sick and
degrading as it is possible to see.

"It showed very young children - some apparently as young as two but in the
main ranging from three, four, five, six up to possibly nine or 10 - being
forced to engage in a panoply of sexual poses and acts."

Mr Royce then turned to a folder of photographs, to give examples. The
judge, who also copies, warned him to shield the images from the public
gallery which overlooked the QC's position.

As Mr Royce described one picture of a young girl having sex with a man, Mr
Trevor Burke, defending, protested. He told the judge: "I query whether it
is necessary to describe pictures you have copies of."

But Mr Royce continued describing in graphic detail some of the images on
Glitter's computer.

Mr Burke then astonished the judge by claiming that Glitter had no idea
downloading such pictures onto a computer was illegal.

Judge Butterfield declared: "You mean this defendant didn't think it was
illegal to have photographs of little girls tortured, gagged and sexually
abused in the most appalling and repellent way? He thought that was legal?"

Mr Burke pleaded: "If you could deal with it calmly." The judge replied: "I
am dealing with it calmly. I am just expressing surprise."

Mr Burke said that the depraved collection was only for Glitter's own use
and that he was "a man of good character." He added: "His professional life
is at an end. There is also the personal disgrace."

Pleading that the star should be spared jail, he said Glitter was bottom of
the chain in the distribution of the porn. The judge said waspishly: "So
everybody gets a free bite of the cherry?"

Earlier, Glitter was sensationally cleared of sexually abusing a besotted
teenage fan, now a 34-year-old mum of three known only as Mrs X.

Mrs X claimed she was seduced by the star at 14 and forced to take part in a
catalogue of humiliating sex acts while wearing a school uniform.

But the singer - who declined to give evidence - was cleared after the jury
heard the woman had received pounds 10,000 from The News Of The World for
her story and would receive another pounds 25,000 if Glitter was convicted
of any of the offences.

Fans in the public gallery cheered, clapped and stamped their feet. The
self-styled Leader of the Gang smiled, nodded, and twitched an eyebrow at
the jury foreman.

Then he bowed to his fan club in a gesture of prayer and embraced his
solicitor Henri Brandman.

Last night campaigners protested at Judge Butterfield's summing up during
the trial when he told the jury: "Some 14-year-olds look like sophisticated
young ladies, some like little girls. You may wish to consider which
category the girl was in."

The Justice for Women Campaign said: "His remarks are extremely offensive.
It suggests that girls who may seem a little bit older are somehow partly
responsible for abuse."

Let's just hope that he's considered the same as 'small eyes' in prison. Maybe
justice will prevail.

How much does this creep get in royalties from "Rock and Roll Part II"? Maybe
a boycott should be started. I personally can handle never hearing it again at
any sporting event. I've always liked his material, but I'll never give them a
spin again.

That's a good idea, go8go...does anyone know how to find out if Glitter makes
$$ off that being played?

Marianna

or the time you could uy a new David Bowie album without a creeping sense of
dread. We may be stuck with privatised railways and decimal currency, but
the Dame's latest long-player is, delightfully, just as good as they used to be.
'hours...' is a richly textured and emotionally vivid set....
This time around, Bowie sounds influenced by nobody except himself, and he couldn't have picked a better role model."
