Subject: Christine Baranski and Cybil Shepherd
Several years ago, there was a TV show starring Cybil Shepherd and Christine
Baranski. I think it was called "Cybil." I guess the show didn't do well. I was
wondering whether Cybil Shepherd and Christine Baranski were/are friends in
real life.

I think the character that Christine Baranski played on that show
("Mary Ann") paved the way for "Karen" on Will & Grace.

I don't think Cybill has *any* friends in real life.  But no, the rumours
were that she and Christine did not like each other.  I believe that
Christine once called Cybill a "fucking nutcase", if that gives you an idea.

Anyone with common sense knows Cybil is a true nut case that has been suffering
from PMS for many years.

it.

I went to an audience taping of the show, and was surprised at how genuinely
friendly and at ease she was when bantering with the audience.  She left a very
positive impression. Of course, in that situation, she would be on her best
behavior.

I heard in the rumor mill that Cybill used to count the number of
lines in each script against the ones given to Christine, and if she
had less, would whine and whine and whine until the producers did
something about it.

Christine Baranski WAS that show -- she was stylish and funny and
bitchy and Cybill's shortcomings as an actress were always apparent
when the two of them had scenes together.

I have seen Christine Baranski in several Broadway shows over the
years, and she is a great performer!  She has great comic timing and
her deadpan delivery of one-liners (ala Mary Ann) is wonderful.

While in Chicago this past week, I caught her on the TV program with
John Laroquette (sp?), and she carries much of that sitcom.

Didn't see much of Cybill, but then again I can't stand that Ms.
Memphis Mediocrity anyways.

I agree. I think Christine Baranski is terrific. I especially liked
her in THE BIRDCAGE, when she sang and danced with Robin Williams.

Christine Baranski has one of the best pair of legs in the business. See
above and the Cybill reruns (one word: miniskirt) for further proof.

I really liked her as the beautiful, desirable woman in "The Grinch"
with Jim Carrey.  It was refreshing to watch him compete for her
affections & not some 20 year-old's.

I remember watching "Cybill" (mostly for the really hot Alicia Witt)
and Baranski absolutely stole every scene from Cybill, who mostly
shrieked and chewed scenery.  I agree Baranski has brilliant timing
and does great deadpan.
