Why does this continue to make headlines? Of course the World's Oldest
Person died. They were older than dirt. Pretty soon the new World's oldest
person will die. And they will report it likes it's news. It's not. It's an
old person dying. That's what happens.

World's oldest person dies at 116
Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Bolden passes at Tennessee nursing home

Updated: 3:29 p.m. PT Dec 11, 2006
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bolden, recognized as the world's oldest
person, died early Monday, the administrator of the nursing home where she
lived said Monday. She was 116.

Bolden was born Aug. 15, 1890, according to the Gerontology Research Group,
a Los Angeles-based organization that tracks the ages of the world's oldest
people.

Guinness World Records recognized Bolden as the oldest person in August
after the death of Maria Ester de Capovilla of Ecuador, who previously was
listed as the oldest.

Bolden had lived at the Mid-South Health and Rehabilitation Center nursing
home for several years until her death, said the center's administrator,
Charlotte Pierce. She died at about 2 a.m. on Monday, said Pierce.

Bolden suffered a stroke in 2004, and her family said she spoke little after
that and slept most of the day.

Family members said she had 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 150
great-great-grandchildren, 220 great-great-great grandchildren and 75
great-great-great-great grandchildren.

Maybe it's the same person, but they keep passing on using another and
another and another name?

And please stop cross-posting. How the topic "World's Oldest Person"
somehow connect rec.music.artists.springsteen, alt.showbiz.gossip and
alt.gossip.celebrities? What the hell is the relationship here, and
what kind of mind would connect them and believe they had to present
this information in the same, cross-posted post?

It must take a truly diseased mind to make that kind of correlation.

Well, I hope this sort of thing continues.
I want my name in the paper when I break the record at 123. Heart attack
while chasing a lob. Or almost finished my best round of golf...

Funny how people try to lump in all front (or 2nd front) page articles
as Headlines.
Odds are the only reason this would get on one of the front pages is
because it was the decent thing to do to publish a color picture of
her.

It's news because people have a vested interest in human longevity. People
either want to know how long they could live to if they work at it, or want to
know what it's like living to 110+ and whether it's worth the effort.

If you get older, you'll find yourself taking more interest in the subject.
