WWII Bombs Found at George Clooney's Lake Home

As a friendly reminder that George Clooney lives in Italy, his lordly
existence trumping ours by a landslide, military experts were called
in to retrieve a cache of unexploded World War II bombs discovered in
the lake where the actor's home sits. A fisherman discovered the
explosives "just 14 meters from the actor's villa," the UK's Daily
Mail reports.

"The deadly arsenal included hand grenades, mortars and aircraft
bombs, found deep in the waters of Lake Como," the Daily Mail writes,
adding that Clooney isn't believed to be at home.

Clooney bought the 30-room home, called Villa Oleandra (yes, it's got
a name), in 2002 for almost $10 million. The explosives have sat
undetected in the lake for 60 years.

As a precaution, residents in the vicinity were told to remain
indoors, away from any windows.

"This is a very complex operation as the munitions have been in the
water for a long time and are unstable," Michele Tortora, a local
official, told the Daily Mail. "That's why we have taken the
precaution of sealing off the entire area around the recovery
operation. The munitions will be taken to a cave where they will be
safely detonated."

Now if they can find a cave big enough in which to sequester
Clooney's ego, ... well, they'd still have to find a safe way to
detonate it.

Every once in a while, World War Two era explosive devices are
discovered/found.Sometimes, civil war era and World War One era
explosive devices too.
