Britain's Princes William and Harry have unveiled plans for a huge pop
concert next year to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of their
mother Diana, princess of Wales.

The charity "Concert for Diana" -- featuring Sir Elton John among
others -- is due to be held at the currently unfinished new Wembley
Stadium on July 1, which would have been her 46th birthday.

William, 24, and Harry, 22, also said Tuesday a memorial service would
take place in London on August 31 -- exactly 10 years on from the
princess's death in a Paris car crash.

Top acts from Britain and the United States are expected to perform at
the concert before 90,000 fans, with the event likely to be televised
live to viewers worldwide.

The acts are being chosen by the princes, with many reflecting their
late mother's tastes.

"We want it to represent exactly what our mother would have wanted, how
she was," said William.

"We wanted to have this big concert, full of energy, full of the sort
of fun and happiness which I know she would have wanted.

"And on her birthday as well, it's got to be the best birthday present
she ever had."

Sir Elton, who performed at Diana's funeral, will play, as will Diana's
favourite band Duran Duran.

Singers Bryan Ferry and Joss Stone, plus US rapper Pharrell Williams,
will also appear along with other acts to be announced nearer the time.

Diana's love of musicals and dancing will also be recognised with a
performance by the English National Ballet, while composer Andrew Lloyd
Webber will stage a medley of songs from his West End musicals.

Diana married Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, in July 1981 and
was a hugely popular member of Britain's royal family. The couple
separated in December 1992 and divorced in August 1996.

Diana was killed in a Paris car crash in August 1997 along with her
boyfriend Dodi Fayed and his chauffeur Henri Paul.

A long-awaited report into Diana's death will confirm a French probe
that it was an accident and refute theories of a plot by British
intelligence, news leaks said Sunday.

The report by Lord John Stevens, formerly Britain's top police officer,
has concluded that Diana died in a traffic accident after her driver
lost control of the car while drunk at the wheel, the leaks said.

The new Wembley Stadium in northwest London has run vastly over-budget
and been repeatedly delayed. The 757-million-pound (1.5-billion-dollar,
1.1-billion-euro) venue is now scheduled to open in time for the
showpiece FA Cup Final football match in May.

Tickets for the Diana concert cost 45 pounds (88 dollars, 67 euros) and
go on sale from 0900 GMT Wednesday via the www.concertfordiana.com
website.

Why did we spy on Di?
BY AUSTIN FENNER in New York, JAMES GORDON MEEK in Washington and ELLEN
TUMPOSKY in London/NY DAILY NEWS WRITERS

Princess Diana may have been secretly taped while on plane with Teddy
Forstmann.
The newest mystery in the massively investigated death of Princess
Diana is why American intelligence allegedly eavesdropped on her phone
calls.

Reports in the British press claim that the results of an official
probe into the Paris car crash that killed her on Aug. 31, 1997, along
with boyfriend Dodi Fayed will reveal that the U.S. was listening to
her phone calls. The eavesdropping - without British permission - was
right up to her death, including calls from the Ritz Hotel, where she
was staying that night, according to leaks from the report.

That report will be released Thursday.

The CIA and Secret Service denied yesterday listening in on Diana's
calls.

"It's not us, it's not us," a CIA official implored. "What intelligence
value could she possibly have had?"

The National Security Agency said it never targeted Diana for
eavesdropping, but indicated her name was mentioned in calls by other
people it was monitoring.

"The idea of anybody tapping her phones is ridiculous," said another
top intelligence official with access to the most secret overseas
reporting. "The NSA ... had much more important things to do then."

Officials said it is possible that the NSA - called the "great vacuum
cleaner in the sky" by one source - could have accidentally picked up
telephone intercepts of Diana while targeting someone else, such as
another Ritz Hotel guest.

One theory that has emerged is that the secret listening prompted the
British authorities to put an end to Diana's plans to spend the summer
of 1997 in the Hamptons with her onetime New York boyfriend,
millionaire financier Teddy Forstmann, because it would be a security
risk for her two princely sons.

A source close to Forstmann told the Daily News yesterday that Diana
may have been overheard while traveling with Forstmann on his private
plane, which Forstmann believed was bugged by the feds to listen in on
his rich and powerful friends.

She asked Forstmann to help her find a summer place in the Hamptons,
the source said. The princess later called to tell Forstmann to drop
the search.

"Don't bother [trying to find me a place]," she told Forstmann,
according to the source. "There's no point in looking. They won't let
me come. It's a security hazard."

Some Brits were skeptical that the Americans were worried about Diana's
safety in the Hamptons.

"If this is true, there needs to be some explanation," said Andrew
MacKinlay, a Labor Party member of Parliament. "That's a feeble excuse.
They've got to do better than that."

The princess ended up instead taking a vacation on the yacht of Harrods
owner Mohamed Al-Fayed and became involved with his son Dodi, a romance
that led to her death.

George Clooney must be awfully disappointed that for the umpteenth
time, it has been decided (this time by DNA evidence) that Princess
Diana was killed by her own drunken pillpopping driver - or rather,
Dodi Fayed's driver - and NOT by the paparazzi. (Actually, we think
machismo killed Diana - Dodi's macho chauffeur wouldn't admit he was
too impaired to drive.) George LOVED spreading the idea that the press
killed Diana - he hoped to turn the Diana-loving public AGAINST the
press. (He only likes the press when he has a movie coming out.) He
hoped fans would stop buying gossip magazines and visiting gossip
websites. And of course, Dodi Fayed's father Mohammed has spent a
fortune trying to prove a conspiracy - he can't live with the idea that
his son contributed to Diana's death. Let's hope this latest finding
will shut them both up.

What does/did people see in Diana?? She was no more than an average school
teacher who married a prince. Show your devotion to your doctors, teachers,
fireman, policeman, parents, and others who actually make a difference in
life.

Why ask the question if you have the answer?

All the news reports I've seen say that the eavesdropping was "that
day" -- the day she died; but surely if 'they' were spying on her,
wouldn't they have been doing so before "that day" as well. If not,
why not. And if it was, indeed, only that day, why?

I think it'll turn out that the real target was someone else at the
hotel, and that person phoned her.

That is precisely the attraction--hers was a fairytale story everyone
wanted to believe, and when things didn't work out in fairytale fashion,
many of the people who had believed in it felt a great sympathy for her
that, in some cases, went over the deep end when she died.

Well, the leaks say that they were eavesdropping on her! I guess we'll
have to wait until Thursday (?) when the report comes out.
The fact that Henri Paul was employed (used?) by the French Secret
Service was justified as being 'natural' because of the Very Important
People who stay and stayed at the Ritz. Also, Fayad, owner of the
Ritz, had bribed several British MPs and iirc that was why the British
wouldn't give him citizenship -- I guess he bribed the wrong people
(that's a joke).
FWIW I believe that the publicity now about the concert in her memory
next summer by her sons, is to distract from the publicity again about
her death.

Of course the paparazzi killed her, or does the writer expect
people to believe that the driver went blazing around Paris for
absolutely no reason at all?

I also read somewhere that the FBI has
a full dossier on Princess Diana and that she was always of great
interest to the FBI. Why would that be?

I don't think so. Now that William is of age I think more things in
tribute to and in honor of Princess Diana will occur. Maybe the
Princess will appear on paper money and/or coins, perhaps her picture
will appear on stamps. Maybe a statue of her will be erected.

I am not saying these things will happen tomorrow, but it's possible
they will happen within the next couple of years.

So those wacky kids are planning "celebrations" for both, her death and
birth?
Her 'birth', okay - she was their mother, but her brutal death?
Weird..

Minus that one guy - not many others come to mind that have big to-dos
on both their 'birth' and 'death'.
