SAN FRANCISCO --(BUSINESS WIRE) --11/19/2003--This holiday season, Gap
(NYSE:GPS) introduces a new TV campaign that captures the spirit of the
holidays -- giving and getting love. As part of the campaign, Gap invited an
eclectic group of celebrated musical artists to reinvent the 1969 hit song
"Put a Little Love in Your Heart." Nine artists including Al Green, Melissa
Etheridge and Kelly Rowland participated in Gap's exclusive recording of
"Put a Little Love in Your Heart," which serves as the musical backdrop for
four :30 second holiday spots.
The set for Gap's latest ads recreates an old-fashioned, Main Street, USA
look and feel. They feature familiar faces such as models Nastassja Kinski
and Frankie Rayder getting into the holiday spirit alongside their family
members including Kinski's children and Rayder's sisters. Key items from
Gap's holiday line such as crazy fair isle sweaters and a range of
accessories are highlighted in the spots.
"Each of the four TV spots uses music and emotion to express the meaning and
magic of the holiday season," said Kyle Andrew, vice president of Gap
Marketing. "We hope these ads and the special song we recorded will evoke
the loving spirit of the holidays, while continuing to reinforce the
emotional connection we're building with our customers."
Gap's holiday campaign extends beyond traditional advertising. Beginning
December 1, a special holiday CD featuring the exclusive recording of "Put a
Little Love in Your Heart," will be available for $2 at all Gap U.S. stores.
In addition to Al Green, Melissa Etheridge, and Kelly Rowland, the recording
features Vanessa Carlton, Stephan Jenkins, Ginuwine, Musiq, Heather Headley
and Gavin DeGraw. All profits from the sale of the enhanced CD, which also
includes a video of Gap's new TV commercial, will benefit the Boys & Girls
Clubs of America. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America offer programs and
services to promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by
instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.
In addition to supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Gap came
together with the musical artists who contributed to the recording of "Put a
Little Love in Your Heart" to give back to the community in ways that are
most meaningful to them. On behalf of each of the celebrities featured on
the song, Gap is making a charitable donation to the charity of their
choice. Charities include many different organizations from women's and
children's services to shelters and cancer research funds.
Gap's holiday campaign also includes an opportunity for customers to get a
little "love" -- Volkswagen style. From December 1-24, customers around the
country can enter for a chance to win two 2004 Volkswagen New Beetles(1)
customized by Gap -- one for them and one for someone they love. Volkswagen
New Beetles will be on display in select Gap stores around the country from
December 1-24.
