NY POST/LIZ SMITH...
DAKOTA FANNING is already a pre-teen movie star, one of the best actors
in Hollywood. She was charming and gracious on Sunday hosting a
premiere of Paramount's coming epic "Charlotte's Web." She and Cedric
the Entertainer showed up in person to lend a VIP gloss to an opening
that included the studio's hot new CEO Brad Grey. There is a lot riding
on this movie with some of the most famous actors in Hollywood doing
the animal voices. (Robert Redford as "Ike" the horse? Amazing.) When I
asked Dakota if it was true that she learned to read at age 4, she
chuckled, "Actually, I was 2 1/2." The benefit was for Literacy
Partners, so I told her the money would now go to teaching some of New
York's adults how to read and write. She said, "That's why I am happy
to help." Other than Dakota, who appears as her own sweet self, we must
give Julia Roberts an enormous hand clap for her vocal performance as
the spider "Charlotte." Julia is the best of all I've ever seen or
heard in this kind of voice-over. You can actually understand
everything the spider says. This is a beautiful film, fabulously
produced, and if you don't cry at the end, you're heartless. The
audience was SRO, crammed with young purists and their parents who
dared Paramount not to conform to the book. But they were faithful to
the E.B. White classic. Don't miss it. AND Miss Fanning sure has an
eclectic career. Up next is director Deborah Kampmeier's "Hounddog," in
which Fanning's character is raped. The movie was shot in North
Carolina, and the district attorney's office was so concerned at the
subject matter, they asked to see the film. The production was cleared
of any wrongdoing, but the director still explains to Premiere
magazine: "I think they're accusing me of putting Dakota through some
ordeal or a simulation of rape, but that's not the case." Kampmeier
says the scene was "shot in increments . . . never in a single take . .
. the assumption that Dakota was 'violated' in order to give this
performance denies her talent." Photo:

I have really enjoyed her acting since first seeing her in "I Am Sam". I
just hope she doesn't implode upon puberty because she is a very talented
little girl and it would be such a waste.

Really. Her mom should use Lindsey Lohan as an example to her. "Dakota,
honey, make sure you do everything exactly THE OPPOSITE of what Lindsey did
after the age of 15. You'll be perfectly fine!"

The difference being that Dakota is a smart young lady and her parents
seem to have some sense. Not so for the Lohans.

Lohan's mother is much more disturbing than Lindsay. She's a gross, tacky
pimp opportunist who truly seems to love the limelight and the lifestyle it
provides, and intends to bake her freckled hide in it no matter what is
happening to her daughter. It's worse than the stage-mother syndrome -- I
remember when everybody was bashing Brooke Shields' mother (speaking of
alcoholics), but at least, in her own pushy way, it was all about her
daughter, and there was some sense that she was in charge and not just a
lump along for the ride. And yes, she was such a maniac that Brooke fired
her, but somehow, compared to Dina Lohan, she looks good in retrospect, and
Brooke certainly turned out OK.
Aside from her looks, what's most annoying about Ma Lohan are her inane,
passive comments to the press: "My child is my priority." "Lindsay is, like,
a wonderful child." "Lindsay is going to AA, and that's, like, a good
thing."

Don't care about your titty. Yes you are allowed your
opinion...doesn't mean it isn't a sad reflection of a bitter person,
though.
