Sopranos ``Hit Man'' Federico Castelluccio to Participate in Masters of
Illusion Art Exhibition in Santa Fe
SANTA FE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2004--Federico Castelluccio, a
member of the ensemble cast of HBO's hit series The Sopranos, will be
one of the artists featured in Masters of Illusion art exhibition at
Andreeva Portrait Commissions and Gallery in Santa Fe December 18, 2004
through March 1, 2005. Federico plays volatile hit man Furio Giunta on
the award-winning HBO series.
The Masters of Illusion: The Art of American Trompe l'Oeil Painters
exhibition at the Andreeva portrait gallery will feature the virtuosity
of painting technique. Using this technique, artists are required to do
paintings which fool the eye. In addition to Federico Castelluccio, the
show will feature paintings by Braldt Bralds, recently celebrated by Der
Speigel magazine of Germany as one of the world's greatest living
illustrators.
About Federico Castelluccio
Born in Naples, Italy, Federico Castelluccio came to America with his
family at the age of three and a half. While growing up in Paterson, New
Jersey, he showed natural creative ability and was determined to become
an artist. He was awarded a full scholarship to the prestigious School
of Visual Arts in New York City, where he earned a BFA in painting and
media arts while supporting himself as an award-winning illustrator for
television networks PBS, ABC and others. Mr. Castelluccio, determined to
pursue another passion, a career in acting, performed Off Broadway, in
Shakespeare Festivals, television films and as a member of the ensemble
cast of HBO's hit series "The Sopranos." His skills as a realist painter
in the style of Trompe l'Oeil will be on view at Andreeva Portrait
Commissions and Gallery. The cleverly titled "Eggplant Parm" plays on
two aspects of Italian culture, great art and cuisine. A polished
eggplant, the reflective surface masterfully painted, sits in front of a
postcard of the tondo portrait of a young man by Italian old-master
painter, Parmigianino. Mr. Castelluccio will be in attendance at the
Opening Reception Saturday, December 18, 2004 from 6 - 8 p.m.
Braldt Bralds, a native of the Netherlands, was fascinated by great
Dutch masters and the surrealists, whose work he studied closely in
great museum collections during his youth. After studying graphic arts
and the printing trade he began a successful career as an
illustrator-designer. Drawn to New York City in 1978, Mr. Bralds landed
a commission to paint a cover for Time magazine on his very first day
and has painted countless covers for Time and other magazines.
Widely respected in the field, Braldt Bralds earned numerous gold and
silver medals and received the coveted Clio award in 1989. Tatiana
Andreeva, who represents the artist for Portrait Commissions, became
intrigued by his exquisitely painted work, including portraiture, which
is beautifully layered in symbolism.
Andreeva's special interest in presenting this exhibition is that Trompe
l'Oeil encompasses an emblematic approach to the portrait, the source
being original photographs and reproductions of fine art. In the works
on view, artists pay homage to a lineage of inspirational great masters
in this timeless genre of Trompe l'Oeil.
