I refer to Palin as the spokesmodel for his campaign, nothing more.

I can think of a few other reasons in addition to that one:
(1) he needed something that would counteract the perception that he
does not represent change - and Palin is new to the DC scene.
(2) he needed someone who would appeal to the religious right in his
republican support - and Palin will;
(3) he doesn't want anything but a protege in his VP, because he wants
ultimate control;
(4) he wants to exploit the Alaskan oil reserves, in order to appease
the Americans who are demanding independence from middle east oil -
Palin can help him achieve that goal if anyone can.
