NY POST/CINDY ADAMS....

JENNIFER Nicholson - Jack's oldest child, America's newest hot designer - is
coming to town."Fame's been part of my life but it takes lots more to get to
this position," said Jen. So this position is what exactly?

"I have a shop in Santa Monica, the sleepy, conservative side of L.A. My stuff
works there but it took time because it's not conservative. It's colorful,
whimsical, feminine clothes from $150 to $1,200 for women ages 20 to 50.
Refined silk and lace fabrics. The $1,200 might be a charmeuse-lined coat
trimmed with faux fur and classic lace. The collection's called 'Love Letters'
because this, my true love, is a love letter to the public.

"My shop's named Pearl. My dog's named Pearl. I love the sea and what comes
from it so I love pearls. And it's a nice simple name. And this season I've
already been in Lucky magazine, Parade, Us, L.A. Times."

Right. So she opening a Pearl East?

"Not yet. I'm in New York with my own collection for the first time showing to
Barney's, Bergdorf's, Bendel's. And Harper's, Vogue and Marie Claire are coming
to see me. I'll show by appointment at the 60 Thompson St. Hotel.

"I'm excited and happy but . . . horribly scared."

Raised in Los Angeles, moved at 16 to Honolulu with actress mom Sandra Knight,
Nicholson's only wife, Jennifer tried painting and decorating but, at age 38,
her passion for fashion (she owns 500 vintage Puccis) took over. So was dad any
help?

"Well, he's an investor and it does help to have a nice last name."

Hey, if he just schleps his own personal lady friends to her she could make a
fortune.

Laughed Jennifer: "Even his exes come to my shop. Anjelica Huston bought a pale
blue button up blouse. Lara Flynn Boyle gets edgy, fun, revealing things from
me."

So, listen, you charge these stars?

"Yes. But there's a fine line. If I make them a gown I give it to them free
because then I get publicity. Otherwise . . . of course . . . I give them a
discount." Of course.
