London - Veteran British singer Rod Stewart is going to be a father
again at the age of 60, Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper reported on
Thursday.
His fiancee, lingerie model Penny Lancaster, became pregnant with their
first child in March, the newspaper said.
For twice-married Stewart, it will be child number seven. The report
said Stewart, who has been with Lancaster for five years, was even
considering breaking an earlier vow that he would not wed again.
A friend of the couple told the Mirror: "They are so thrilled. They love
each other very much and a baby will make their life complete."
Stewart romantically proposed to Lancaster on a trip to Paris in March
after discovering she was expecting.
"Rod might be getting on a bit but he's not the only old man to have a
child and Penny has never made a secret of the fact that she would like
kids", the friend told the Mirror.
Stewart would join an elite club of ageing "new dad" rockers, including
ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, who was 61 when his daughter Beatrice was born
last year.
The star already has six children, but hardly ever sees his oldest,
41-year-old Sarah Thubron.
After splitting from his second wife, model Rachel Hunter, who walked
out on him in 1999, Stewart had vowed not to get married a third time.
"They are devoted to each other. It just gets better and better and it
will be a dream come true for them if they were to start a family", said
Arnold Steifel, Stewart's manager for 22 years. - Sapa-dpa
