I was looking for a good Gopher source to install as a server on a PC
(DOS based machine). The sites that I came up with Archie did not have
a source for Gopher only, i.e. it was combined with mail, finger, etc etc.
My PC has a ethernet connection and I use NCSA for connecting. I was
wondering if there exists a simple version of Gopher that can be installed
to set up my PC as a server, without having to blow open the access to the
machine, as the NOSview does!!
Any suggestions as to the location of such a source would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks

The official site for gopher stuff is boombox.micro.umn.edu.
Anything gopher-related that has been released to the world should
be there.

>Hi,
There are two DOS based servers that I have tried. KA9Q has the full works
of FTP and SNMP mail etc and is good but not quite what you wanted.
The other is the Hamburg server. This is simply a DOS based server that
does gopher only. It has one advantage over KA9Q in that it can do its own
serches (just runs a dos based command)
If you want to see one in action running on an old 286/8MHz machine then
point your gopher client at my server 'gopher.cpe.surrey.ac.uk'. This poor
machine also runs Lantastic local area network so I can manage the
informaition without taking down the server.
The files are all in Minnesota as others have posted. There is going to be
an update on the server around September. It is still being activily
developed.
