APPCDC, frogs and methane were the big stories this week, so let's
start with a wee bit o' humour:

2006/01/11: Reuters: Climate-change fungus is wiping out frogs: study
"This is the first clear evidence that widespread extinction is taking place
because of global warming," Dr Alan Pounds, an ecologist of the Monteverde
Cloud Forest Preserve in Costa Rica, said in an interview. "Climate change
is already altering the dynamics of infectious disease and causing species
to disappear."

I have not seen other numbers about the rate of increase of the CO2,
but if these are accurate it is worrisome:

<http://news.independent.co.uk/environment/article338689.ece>
2006/01/15: Independent(UK): Global warming to speed up as carbon levels show
sharp rise
Through most of the past half-century, levels of the gas rose by an average
of 1.3 parts per million a year; in the late 1990s, this figure rose to 1.6 ppm,
and again to 2ppm in 2002 and 2003. But unpublished figures for the first 10
months of this year show a rise of 2.2ppm.

How true. Also true is that extinctions are occurring at between 0.1
to 1% a century, which is greater than the normal pre-human
"background" rate but much less than observed below by the fanatical
eco-cultists. Source: references cited in Chap. 23 of Lomborg's
"Sceptical Environmentalist" (2001)
