If you calculate the average temperature of the earth you get ~ -15C,
but the observed average is ~ +15C, that's 30 degrees higher.
If you look at the frequency range of radiation emitted from a body at
-15C then you will find that oxygen and nitrogen have no absorption
bands in that range. So all the radiation will go into space. So the
question is, why is the earth so much warmer than expected and warmer
than the moon which is roughly at the same distance from the earth.
(the earth and moon have different albedos so you wouldn't expect them
to be at exactly the same temperature)
