From the Rock hotel:
"Whilst there are very early talks about the development of the Rock I can
assure you that recent speculation about demolition is both ill-timed and
misplaced.
The type of concept envisaged is of a nature that would take years of
planning, consultation and consents to achieve.
I can assure you and our customers that at present it is very much
business as usual at the Rock.
I hope this helps.

To summerise:
They will probably knock it down, but not within the next two years.
My dad walked past the Ford garage that is now inbetween the two Ocean
Village buildings on the roundabout and noticed that there is a sign
saying that they are moving to new premises next door. I wonder if
someone could sandwich a tall building inbetween the other two? ... ^^
it IS going then ......

Sorry to reply so late. I was very concerned to read this thread as I
enjoyed a pleasant break at the Rock a couple of months ago. The only
bad thing is the walk up to the hotel from town each day! Part of its
appeal is that the hotel is a grand old building and if it were
knocked down and replaced by some glass and concrete skyscraper it
would lose all this charm. If people want to go to a glass and
concrete skyscraper, they will go to the Elliot instead!
My only other grumble would be the prices of food and drink, which
seemed twice that in other hotels. IIRC they were £4 in the Rock,
£2.00 at the Elliot, and £2.50 at the Caletta. I don't know how they
can justify this when you can buy a litre of spirits in town for £6.
