Server Problems
Due to hardware problems, two of our servers are currently out of action.
(Valid at 16 May 2006)
Work to reconfigure the cluster has now resulted in improved performance,
and users should not experience problems except at peak times.
In order that we can get the best from the available hardware, we would ask
that users who are able to, use the site between 23:00 and 06:00 GMT when
site loading is at its lightest.
............................................................................................................................................................................................
All you have to do is get your sponcers, your paymasters, to get the servers
fixed. its AS EASY AS THAT. that is RootsWeb, www.Ancestry.co.uk and The
Bunker.
The ones who are getting ALL THE INFO.
THE INFO THAT MANY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE UNSELFISHLY GIVING UP A LOT
OF TIME TO COLLATE.
THERE ISN'T ANY SERVER PROBLEMS FROM THEM!. IS THERE, NO SLACKING ON THEIR
PART, IS THERE. BUT SPENDING A COUPLE OF THOUSAND BUCKS ON GETTING IT
FIXED AND RUNNING RIGHT, BIT OF A FINANCIAL HARDSHIP.
THE BIG INDUSTRY CORPORATION BEHIND IT ALL, MY FAMILY INC, WHO IS GETTING
ALL THE INFO, COLLATED BY THESE UNSELFISH PEOPLE, FOR NOTHING. THAT IS FOR
NOTHING. WHEN THE INFO IS WORTH MILLIONS. in man hours alone.
AND THEN OF COURSE IT ENDS UP ON ANCESTRY.COM FOR $100 bucks A YEARS
SUBSCRIPTION.
COME ON..... Free BMD, yes, I suspect until all the info has been
collated, unselfishly collated. THEN will it be free after that??
if it is not me and freebmd will be speaking to lawyers
you really are a disturbed personality
ancestry / myfamily inc employs 1000 people twice as many as google
I meet some of them face to face
they are intelligent young graduates and know all this stuff

FreeBMD are *not* whining: you seem to be the one doing that. They
are exercising good customer relations and advising their users there
is still a problem. OK, so the problem is proving more difficult to
solve than they'd hoped. FreeBMD doesn't have any paymasters - it's
as simple as that.
FreeBMD is a volunteer project and it will always be free. That's a
condition of having the data to transcribe.
I would suggest you take your complaint to FreeBMD instead of whinging
here. They are the ones with the answers after all.
PS: Please don't post in HTML in a text only group
How is this a "whine"? Seems to me it's a sysadmin keeping you
informed.

And then, they give you a way to get the info you need in case this
leaves you in a bind somehow for, you know, those urgent genealogical
matters.

News flash: they're telling you, in effect, "we're working on it and
here's what is going on".

You obviously don't work in IT. I've built a couple dozen servers of
varying complexity this year; it isn't something that builds itself. A
clustered application server environment can be complex in ways you
can't even begin to imagine.

side, might have a light in it or near it.

Wipe the froth off your mouth, turn off your caps-lock, and wait for the
boys to fix the server. Your dead ancestors, will keep.
I can think of somewhere else he can put his complaint :-)
As it happens FreeBMD searches seem to be quite quick at the moment (I don't
mean right now, I mean in general). Perhaps some of the servers have been
fixed?

Obviously a torch (by either definition) would be appropriate, in that
case.

It does seem to be as quick as it ever was, if not quicker. Dave M
did say that they were getting back up to full steam again. I don't
know what they've done though. IIRC, he's the one who deals with the
techy side and I do know that he has a full time job elsewhere which
means he's only got limited time to spend on the FreeBMD servers.
Given that, he and the rest of the team are doing a grand job.
