Rahman or Edison

Am looking for information on my great grandfather. His name was Abdul
Khalil Rahman, but upon entry in the US from India, he changed it to John
Edison. He married a West Indian woman named Mary (Moye) Edison. They had
3 sons named Anthony, Clarence and Bernard. The couple eventually divorced
and my great grandfather kept the three boys then put them in an orphanage,
I believe in Rye NY. All three sons ended up in Plainfield NJ.

Any help would be great.

My great grandfather, Abdul K. Rahman/John Edison came over from India
somewhere around 1908. My grandfather Anthony Edison was born around 1917.

I've asked him for information but with the whole orphanage thing, he didn't
have any contact with his mother and minimal contact with his father.

As far as other Indian relatives, my great grandfather was pretty much
disowned for marrying a black woman. The children did get to know his
brother, but I can't spell or even pronounce his first name. I just know it
starts with a B.

I know that my great grandfather had a watch shop in Plainfield. At my
great uncle Bernards funeral, an old friend of the family told me about it.

I found John, Mary and two boys in the 1920 census and the boys in Rye, NY
in 1930. Is that something you need?
