I know how you guys like a challenge and the COLLINGRIDGEs are nothing if not a challenge!! <G>
Can anyone find Mrs A J BRYANT and her husband, whose name is unknown?
Mrs A J BRYANT appears on a land deed relating to 160 acres that Mary E COLLINGRIDGE purchased in 1891. Mary E died in 1893, 10 days before her mother, Mary A, and it would seem the Mary E willed the land to her brother, Edwin; sister, Sophia MERCER, (late WATSON, nee COLLINGRIDGE), and Mrs A J BRYANT.
I've now realised that Mrs BRYANT is Mary E's sister (I think).
On the 1850 census there is a Josephine WATSON, b 1849 in Kentucky, and apparently the dau of Sophia WATSON and her husband, John.
On the 1860, Josephine has disappeared and Abba J COLLINGRIDGE has appeared, b 1849, Kentucky, and apparently the dau of Joseph and Mary A COLLINGRIDGE
On the 1870 Abba J has become Abby J, still shown as b 1849, Kentucky.

Age is right, parents' birth place is right, census location is right but if this is Abby she's had a name change again!! Given that Joseph, Abby's father, was a Justice of the Peace for a time, it wouldn't be too surprising to find Abby married to a Deputy Sheriff.
I would think that it would be easy for an enumerator to mishear either Aggie or Abby and write the other name (and with mishearing Abby as Aggie, to write what he felt was the 'real name').
Looks like it's time for another death certificate/information hunt (with fingers crossed that Mrs. A. J. Bryant's maiden name is listed) <g>.

Thanks for that. I was forgetting that Agnes is often abbreviated to Aggie. I don't imagine that Abby was that common a name but Aggie/Agnes was so a presumption was made.

Now come one <G> This is probably a Collingridge and since when did they do what they were supposed to and make life easy?? <ggg>
Seriously, I've no idea when she died, nor when she married. With her having a 1 month old baby at the time of the 1880 census and apparently no older children, it suggests she probably hadn't long been married. -- http://home.comcast.net/~webact1/Collingridge/

Cunningham raises pointed stick, stabs toward computer screen and thinks better of it. Drinks large brandy and decides to give "C" something to think about.
Go here: http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi and simply put in Collingridge in maiden name. Any sex and click search. Or have you done this already? If not, have fun playing with more names and places. <VBEG> ecunning...@att.net
I've got them in the 1900 census, with yet another name for her -- Josephine (so at least we know what the J was for <vbg>):

Phew!!! Thank goodness for that!! I have a TFT monitor and it doesn't take kindly to being jabbed with a finger, let alone a pointy thing. All the gel would run out!! <BG>

Can I have a brandy as well pls, with plenty of ginger wine, while I'm thinking about it.

No, I hadn't but I have now :)) Thank you.
Lawrence Edwin Shepard, is (I think) a grandson or great grandson Joseph who was the father of Abby Josephine BRYANT. Shouldn't be too hard to find his parents, although I notice no father's surname is listed.
Marcus Collingridge BULLIVANT is a new one on me.
You haven't done it again and found another Albert, have you?? <ggg>

It's pretty certain that the Josephine in the 1850 became Abba J, then Abby J, then Agnes :)) I wonder if she took lessons off Albert? ;))

Fred was a Deputy Sheriff, so he's had a change of occupation. Ethel's now become Effie. Could the date of the two censuses be the reason for the birth being adrift? Or could this be the second child mentioned in the 1910 census, the one born 1880 having died?

Magic!! Thank you very much for that. :))
That'll keep me amused for the weekend trying to find out all the whens and wheres :))
I used to know someone in Marin County. I wish I'd taken the opportunity of a trip to Sausalito as well but I didn't know about the San Francisco Collingridges when I was there in 1989. I wish I had. -- http://home.comcast.net/~webact1/Collingridge/
