I have an ancestor was born c.1836 in a village (Pickworth) in Rutland.
Parish records for this year are not in our local Records Office
(Leicester), neither are the Bishop's Transcripts.

Any ideas of where the records could be.

1/ Have you tried the parish church ? Some vicars have been reluctant over
the years to yield up their parish registers. Maybe some still have them.

2/ Are you sure Pickworth was always in Rutland and that it's records would
have been placed in Leicestershire (rather than, say, Lincs., since
Pickworth is near the border with that county).

3/ Have you looked for info. on Rutland, whereabouts of records, local
FHSs, etc on GENUKI ? http://www.genuki.org.uk/
