Nope, I only use Google for usenet when I'm on the road and never bothered to learn about some of the nicer details of using it.
I've always used Outlook Express as a newsreader for Usenet NewsGroups. At home, using the cable broadband connection (even with a wi-fi) I can use Outlook Express and get my newsgroups through comacast. On the road, connecting through another wi-fi connection and not comcast, I can't use Comcast to access the newsgroups only google and I'd never bothered to learn the details of that frontend. I was looking for an RSS reader since I noticed Google offering that, but never found one I liked enought to try.
Remember I was trying to get linux (Puppy) to work with a USB mouse(touch pad) when presented with the folowing at start up: mouse choices: serial, PS/2, sb(ps/2). Took me two days to recognize sb(ps/2) was usb(ps/2) (I have a display adapter problem) and finally was able to install puppy on my laptop.

It's not just the hard ware so much as the traffic I think. That's something I have just begun to look into, but haven't really got a great understanding of that as of yet. In a coupla months though, I intend to know all about that aspect as we will be needing top of the line server space and speed for our projects. No rinky-dink / teeter-tottering bullshit. -woodstock-

Yup - it's bandwidth not the space - that's what I was thinking ya meant since HD's are so cheap. I'll let ya know if I come up with any great ideas.
well...... have you thought of talking with lookingheart for a grant type thing? i don't know exactly what it takes for him to set it up, but apparently he may have the width to do it. doesn't hurt to try , and the worse is the word no. even rob may have the space , but i know he gets bombarded so much it may be taken up. spiritrising

A specialty web streaming host service - this doesn't quite fit your specs but a streaming host vs a web site host has most of the features you mentioned. More space and more data transfer is just some more $$. How sure are you of your storage needs (50gig); How about your data transfer needs. Here's a $25/mo package as example ==============================================
Web Streaming Host 12GB Monthly Data Transfer 1.5GB storage
Assuming you are streaming 250kbit videos you can stream about 134 hours of total video
Assuming you are streaming DVD resolution 600kbit videos you could stream about 56 hours of total video
All Plans Include the Following: ********True Streaming Video Service Dual Intel Xeon High Speed Servers Phone and Email Support Stream Hoster Control Panel ********Windows Media Streaming Server ********QuickTime Streaming Server ********Supports streaming at DVD res. 720x480 Includes Special encoding Rates Tier-1 Bandwidth From Level3, UUNET and More Smart Automatic Protocol Selection High Performance Network Backbone State of the Art Network Components (i.e. Juniper/Cisco)

I think so. Most streaming media server hosts have it set up to allow for live webcasts or simultaneous broadcasts. (Example - everybody that wants to see the 1999 Gathering video tune in at 9:00 on Tuesday vs on demand, always available streaming - just depends on what the need is) It's one of the advantageous of streaming media servers versus a web site server. Costs vary as I'm sure you can guess. I had done a bunch of research on them about 2 years ago when I was looking at setting up some media broadcasts for a 'club' in Denver but just looked at them again. Cheaper then two years ago and lots more choices in hosts and packages.
we have talked and their band width is too little, I am paying for the last 11 years from my own pocket, and only this year have found a free server, www.archive.org . and now that the small video's in low quality are up and serving for FREE. I would like to move to the next Phase of Free Movies, DVD, videoCD2.0, Div-X etc. to allow everyone to enjoy HighQuality And Downloadable Video's for free. you can already download Full version Cd roms of all the MUSIC, from the rainbow collection on SpunoneProductions.com , if you have a Cd rom Burner and burning Software..just would like to be able to afford the dvd space i need, say 9 movies, at 1.6 gigs each in DVD format is a start. then more space needed for Vid-CD2.0, Mepeg. and Div-x in the future.. Im not going anywhere, and Hope to live a few more years.. but if I dont I hope someone will take over where i left off...Peace out

I hope to offer mpeg files of the movies, not to sure how many folks will download and burn DVD or VCD.. my monthly use was 16-25gigs downloaded 1000+ hits a week. then i gave up webstreaming from a pay server and use free servers now..the cost was more than i can handle..and allot of family would help out and send me small checkz, and donate servers over the last 10 years..but, all in all the www.archive.org is the best place for them for now..if i had T-1 i would put the Mpeg files up there too... but my upload on 802.11G satellite is only 36kbs. and one DVD would take 7-8 days..so.. i hope someone will take the time to RIP and upload the mpegs of the movies some day.it took me 7 months 24-7 to upload the spunoneproductions files to the ARCHIVE.ORG!!!!!.it will be few more years till the price of 1 megabit upload satellite comes down to a price i can afford..right now its 150.00 a month.and i get a discount . because im a installer for starband, and WIFI. so its $75.00 a month for me.. but the $600 modem is a problem, since i got a NEW house in ND. im strapped till sell one or both of these 1 acre ranches i have here in NM..
Im running a winserver 2003 with media 9 server, with 1 gig ram, dual 500mhgz.a router with wired net work to a 10 port hub, to 5 workstations for the family here in my place..i got win 95-98-ME-2000 and XP. all up and running on the net work, a little of all MS O/S..i use them to teach my children here, we home school, and the difference between the old -vs- newer MS o/s.. newer windows is not necessarily Better..some programs need win 95, or 98 to run.. best..peace out
