FOOD NOT BOMBS WILL CONTINUE TO SHARE FOOD AND IDEAS
On May 25, 2011 Heather Fagan (Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer's press secretary ) hinted that police may gather evidence that could be used to arrest activists later, perhaps at their homes or workplaces away from the news cameras. Mark Schlueb, Orlando Sentinel May 25, 2011
Volunteers still face arrest at breakfast, Monday, May 30, 2011 at Lake Eola Park in Orlando. City claims they may arrest the volunteers at home or work yet many of those sharing food have no homes or jobs.
In the world's wealthiest country where over 50 cents of every tax dollar goes to fund the military it is possible to make sure no one ever needs to seek food at a soup kitchen or be forced to live on the streets. This message should be expressed loud, often and with as much passion as possible. Food Not Bombs will continue to seek an end to poverty and war regardless of government efforts to stop them.
Food Not Bombs explains why they plan to continue sharing food and are not required to have permission from the city. (short video)
here are a few phone numbers for the city or orlando.... we ought to call the mayors office and express rage over this policy lets not forget the time when the maypors office in new orleans wanted to close down a rainbow kitchen after katrina... his number was published and he was sooo swapped with calls he had to relent and leave the kitchen alone ...we can do the same with orlando and food not bombs ...lets all jhave a little fgun and swamp mayor whats his nose with complaints and tell him to leave food not bombs alone

Hmmm, a "press secretary" wanting to avoid the press...

A military engaged in illegal wars of oppression, based on fraudulent pretexts, to steal natural resourses from other countries!

As a program of private charity, yes; but not IMO as a program managed by a government. There will always be poor people wanting handouts instead of hands-up. At rainbow gatherings they are known as drainbows, but the apt analogy is Aesop's fable of 'the ant and the grasshopper' and ancient.

> HUMAN NEEDS NOT CORPORATE GREED! > The campaign to end the criminalization of poverty
Criminalizing poverty is not merely wrong, it is another way of saying economic slavery exists. Voting has not stopped it and will not as long as the menu of candidates is rigged and the plutocrats count the ballots, or, as in the Case of Bush v. Gore, the winner is chosen by an unelected oligarchy.

spreading this around a bit.
there was an element of fault on food not bombs in the incident in california last year where they were being stubborn about inspections and licensing even though it was being offered for free and staged a feeding at a market that wasn't entirely appropriate.
is there any of that in this scenario or is this straight up ignorant facism coming down from the city?
my first contact with food not bombs was in 1989 at the nuclear test site in mercury, NV. i met a lot of family there -- felipe, lynn, freddie, kasha, lover of horses, diamond dave, vermin supreme, hoo ha! i even met zeus at that shindig!
another anarchist hippie brain fart, food not bombs is now global and kick out a lot of food to a lot of hungry people. in austin, they bring fresh fruits and vegetables, raw and cooked, out to woolridge park, between the library and courts.
strictly vegan, the contrast between them and mainstream charity food services is stark and some municipalities have given them a tough row to hoe. orlando is one of them and there have been arrests.
like arresting people for dancing at the jefferson memorial, how much fascism are americans willing to support before they throw down on the cops?
we queue up like good sheeple in public buildings to be searched and we cheer on our government as it flings our military into harms way in country after country to secure the mineral rights, control of the dope and wage slave populations for the corporate oligarchs.

I’m all for free health related inspections, but there is no such thing as a “free license.” Under license people are not “free,” they are “regulated entities.”
Inspecting a soup kitchen to assure the public established food safety practices and procedures are being abided by, and correcting errors, is squarely within the health and safety paradigm of lawful police power IMO. Health inspectors DO have that lawful onus! Feeding people [like peaceable assembly] is a ‘Common Law’ right, not an activity the Gummint may lawfully prohibit. Restaurants are commercial enterprises licensed under ‘Civil Law’ for tax purposes…
As to appropriateness: a feeding at a market or in competition with restaurants sounds real confrontational to me; kinda like driving around with “please pull me over and fuck with me” stickers all over one’s vehicle and expecting the cops not to pull you over and fuck with you.

i forget the details, but the authorities were offering to waive any fees needed to bring the california kitchen into compliance and they stubbornly held the anarchistic line and refused to allow it. then the market they chose to feed at was not one that homeless and hungry people normally frequented.
this situation in orlando looks like nothing but bad law. hopefully they'll have decent lawyers who will take the law to the wall and get it overturned.

Yep, like I said: "health and safety." Typhoid Mary was THE prime example. OTOH government in a free society being an 'administrative special trust'; when big parts of that trust are openly betrayed [aristocrats getting away with crimes against humanity etc.] the fabric unravels and anarchists seek to throw the baby [health and safety] out with the bath-water to take power themselves. There really are "public servants" in our government who have earned my trust and respect! The thing is, they are all lower echelon [health inspectors, honest cops {yes, there are a few}, fire marshals, building inspectors {some of them are not for sale}, sheriffs and clerks etc.]...
For my money: permit shmermit. At law “permit” and “license” are absolute synonyms, and feeding the hungry is a right like peaceable assembly that cannot be reduced to a privilege under license. I see the anarchist point of view that they have the right to serve food as valid; but at the same time I also see their refusal to abide by established health standards *administered by trained professionals paid for by the community they are trying to serve* [in the form of guidance and correction of possible errors] as stupid!

Do you eat at just any kitchen? Remember the Shigella outbreak at the NC gathering in 87?

oh my lord...it truly is the end of the world when we agree on something...
