Correct. Achievement points are not worth a thing...
Except maybe bragging rights. :-)

Thanks
It just came to me that a very few achievements do count to a reward.
The companion Stinker for example:

You collect 50 pets and you get Stinker as a reward.
I can't remember if there are others or if this is the only one.
So, the points are still not worth anything, but in this case there is a
reward for getting a particular achievement.
There's a few achievements that give rewards. Stinker at 50 pets, Little
Fawn at 75. Albino Drake mount at 50 mounts, Dragonhawk mount at 100 mounts.
Violet Proto Drake mount for What a Long Strange Trip It's Been, and Rusted
and Ironbound Proto Drake mounts for the Glory of the Ulduar Raider
achievements. I believe there's a couple other proto drake mount rewards for
raid/dungeon achievements as well. And the upcoming Thanksgiving achievement
is going to reward a Plump Turkey minipet...
Then there's the achievements that award titles...

There's the Violet Proto-Drake for completing "What A Long Strange
Trip It's Been".

I'll note for the OP that this is a +310% mount - the highest speed
class in the game. I got mine at the start of Hallow's End, and now I
seem them frequently. I'd love to know what proportion of players have
them.

In Cataclysm some Achievement Points might influence the Guild level.
"Your guild will get experience for players earning rep, killing bosses,
doing dailies, getting achievements, Arena and BG wins, crafting,
leveling up, and more. The top 20 earners in the guild each week will
have their contributions turned into XP. Previous contributions won't
factor into a particular week's XP, so every member of the guild has the
chance to be a top earner each week."
