Hi all,

A quick question about defense: if I get over the defense cap to be
uncritable (as that even a word? Oh well, it is now :P ) will I still
benefit from getting more defense, or will the extra points be completely
useless (i.e. in the same way hit rating over the cap is just a waste of
stats)?

TIA

You will still benefit, yes, since defence also boosts your dodge,
parry and block chance - it won't be as much of a benefit as it is
below uncrittable but it doesn't hurt anyway and isn't completely
worthless - it's even got some uses for druids who cannot block or
parry, since it'll give a little dodge, which is better than nothing
if it's on the item anyway (my druid has a few defence pieces like
jewellery etc)

Yep, and it's even better than just the dodge; defense gives you a
chance to parry, dodge, block, or *be missed*. So Paladins and Warriors
benefit from all 4 chances, DK's benefit from 3 of them, Druids still
benefit of 2 of them. Don't focus on defense though, as a Druid ;-)

This is, by the way, why it's a mistake to say "defense cap"; "defense
floor" or "defense minimum" is more correct.

And all it means is no chance to get a parry speeded crit-crit-(crit) wipe
which is more possible in long encounters.

For a warrior now with rage from
Shield Specialization: Now provides 5 rage on a block, dodge or parry instead of 2 rage
on
a block.
extra defense is extra useful, allows reassigning of a couple of talent points.
Defense does run into diminishing returns eventually.

The defense miniumum quoted for 83 bosses is also not all needed
for lower level encounters if you can't quite get the last few points yet,
but it doesn't hurt to have it.
