Qued up with my healer buddy and another guildie last night to try out
the newly opened 3rd part of the ToT raid last night, and came in
thankfully on the first boss, but 4th wipe, so we started the fight on a
25% loser buff.

This raid is similar to the 2nd part, in that it seems to have a hard
wipe causing first boss, a pleasant simpler 2nd boss, and a pain in the
ass 3rd if not done right. However, seems they thankfully gave us a
break on the trash in this instance. It was not bad at all..... yay.

1st boss: He is a big, nasty, ugly eyeball and kicking ass right now
with people not knowledgeable with him. He has one particularly nasty
phase which fills a platform and you have to find the path through.
There is not much room for error if you get caught in the bad crap.
This is what caused every wipe from what I understand. We only made it
through as 4 healers were alive at the end with 1 tank and 4 dps. I
almost made it through but died with 20 seconds left.

The second boss was to me, fun. Known as the "Golum boss" (from Lord of
the Rings), listening to him was cracking me up as he even runs around
saying "preciouuuusssss" occasionally and looks liek a big version of
him. Much simpler tanking kite type fight, this is a DPS race. Dps
must kill little red blobs that never end, then run into 5 of their
puddles after they die. Once you hit the 5th one, you transform into a
lizard and can dps the boss. If you are not a lizard you do 75% less
damage to him. He has a short enrage, so you need to always be a
lizard. If you lose the transformation buff you have to go find 5 more
puddles... He was my favorite boss of the night, and with no wipes,
that probably helped my opinion. There is a lot of ground effect
graphics on this fight an more than a few were complaining about lag and
fps. Make sure if you know you have a history of issues with this that
you turn down your graphics setting for this fight.

The last boss I still don't quite know what the hell I'm supposed to do,
so any clarity by anyone would be helpful. It has small adds, medium
adds and then the main boss, and your supposed to take out certain
amounts of each in order to take them all down before attacking the main
boss. I think if you take out too many small adds before the medium
ones are down, more will come? Don't take my word for this as it wasn't
explained well and I need to see a tankspot video of this fight. We
wiped once, then I decided to set my focus macro on a one of the dps who
seemed to know what he was doing and basically attacked what he did. We
wiped again as the tanks had been arguing over strategy and tried the
off tanks approach. The third attempt we went back to whatever the
original strategy was and managed to down the adds. Then the fight is
a tank and spank on the main boss. He also has a shorter enrage timer
and you need to down him. However, his main ability slows the dps down
by stunning them for 6-7 seconds if you do not stop casting when your
supposed to. It comes often and I got caught about 5 times (it was
getting late and was tired). So it seems if he slows dps down by
stunning, he will hit the enrage and we only downe him with 15 seconds
to enrage. If the group is good about stopping their attacks when they
are supposed to, this phase is pretty easy, the first is nasty.

Anyway - got through and got the completion and am now up to 9 secrets
of the empire. Didn't get any gear last night, but got 4 drops on the
1st two raids the night before, so I can't complain. :)

My realm also hit the last (I think) phase of the Island of Thunder
dailies the other night. did the solo scenario and had one new quest
that was kind of fun. Will be interesting to see what happens after
this phase 6. heh...

Anyway, good luck!

Wow nice one, we only reached phase 5 a couple of days back, realm
participation is down at 20% though so not too surprising it's slowed
way down (I guess most the people who reached exalted can't be
bothered with dailies now - I'm still doing them as they're great
valor mixed in with some rare-hunting, but I guess I'm unusual!). I
believe the worldboss Nalak opens with the last phase, so either you
already have him or will get him when you finish it :-)

I'm still chickening out of trying the 2nd ToT raid lol, so nowhere
near the third one yet! 3 clears of the first raid and one drop
(having used a coin every boss), luck's not really on my side then.
Well, at least Galleon gave me a new head this week!

I agree - with rares and extras, it's the quickest set of dailies to do
to earn valors while you wait in queue. It sometimes takes me all night
to do the dailies as I get some done in between raids and a dungeon...As
with any dailies, there are some I despise, some I like...

btw: I hate "cockroach day" as everyone and their mother is out trying
to squish the roaches and it takes forever to find 150 of them. The
spots where they are sometimes gathered are always empty or you see 3
people jumping on them and is gone in 2 seconds before you even get there.

I'm surprised your participation rate is that far down. I still see a
bunch of people and would think that (and think blizzard believes that)
with the option of PvP questing that it should keep the PvPers
participating. I see a bunch out doing them, but not as many as when 5.2
dropped a few weeks ago. Patch 5.1 was a disappointment I think for
the PvPers...I think they (and I) were thinking it was going to be a bit
different than it was. I'm really surprised Blizzard didn't (and
hasn't) introduced a PvP area like Wintergrasp, or Tol Barad that even
PvE'ers would que for so they could get control of a raid area like those.

I

Nope - Just read up that it's after phase 6, so not yet :)

/chicken LOL - Don't be - It's a lot better after 2 weeks and you will
be fine. I even have healed it on my alt druid. Like I said - you will
know whether the group is fail by the first boss, so you won't waste
time. Go fer it!!! :)

Now there's one on my realm I can never get luck on! I don't see many
forming groups up for it, but then again - I'm not standing around
cities and don't see if any are forming. That's the negative about the
island. I'm either there, or in an instance. I have to rely on guildes
to let me know if a group is forming. I've only done him and the dino
boss on Giant Island once each. I really want to get in on him as he
drops 522 gear, but miss out.

Dont waste time by walking on them as Aoe is your friend here. :) Fire
rain, arcane blast, whirlwind, whatever. You probably will aggro some
nearby mobs too. But you usually have to kill a bunch of those anyway.

I don't mind that one too much, Compy Stomp is my most hated, dozens
of people trying to camp some not-very-common spawns, arrrgh. Why oh
why have Blizz not hotfixed the spawnrate yet... :-/

Yeah I'm surprised too, I understand the participation rate to be the
% of people who visit the island that complete just one daily, so
there must be a heck of a lot of people passing through to the raid
portal that don't bother with any dailies. You'd think they'd want to
get Nalak up though, and surely the guilds organised enough to go
raiding could get the message through to their members...

Ah well, not too long away anyway. I only hope he's not as hard as
Oondasta, massive lagspikes for no obvious reason (when you're nowhere
near that island) get old after a while, and even post-nerf he's
brought the server down a few times, could live without two bosses
capable of that effect!

Sounds good, will try and make some time over this weekend then. 1st
one is simple enough now, even when a group fails dismally on a boss
the 2nd try gets it. Couldn't quite follow the logic of my group last
night though... bitching about lack of healing, as it seemed only 5
healers were healing (and 2 must've been lowgeared going on their
results), and a votekick comes up for a "healer" that was top of the
dps charts and 8th on healing... yet, people argue to leave him in the
raid. Huh? Even more daft was one of the dpsers switched spec to heal
instead (nice of him), yet, next try we only had 4 healers healing
(and I don't believe anyone left between pulls). Huh??

We actually succeeded anyway but I don't really get why anyone would
not want to kick someone who queued as the wrong role to jump the
queue, and thus caused the group to struggle as the remaining healers
were running oom trying to compensate. Seems clearcut to me, I hate
people who do that and screw things up for the rest of us (wasn't
greatly impressed by the paper tank with the same healthpool as me
either, although at least he was actually tanking - can't have been
his tank set that gave him the ilvl to queue though!)

If you want a group for Galleon, go to Valley - I'm there every day
checking my farm anyway, and always within 5 mins someone asks when
he's due to spawn and somebody will know :-) Then it's a case of if
it's soon, hang around, if not, come back at that time, and there'll
be people around. Oondasta groups tend to be announced on tradechat
I've found, as less people hang out on the island, and it takes way
more people to kill him, but for Galleon it's just a case of visit the
zone (and picking up my 16 motes is a decent reason to head there :-))

Speaking of Galleon reminds me of a depressing example of human nature
I saw the other day, I'll never get some people's attitudes. We're a
very Horde-dominated server nowadays, I'd imagine Alliance get to tag
the world bosses maybe once a week if they're lucky (they presumably
never get Oondasta given the numbers required), and one time I went to
Galleon last week, they actually had a raid there and got the tag.
Well good for them, I thought - Galleon's up often enough that I don't
much care about having to wait 2 hours, they've likely had to wait all
week.

Some Horde tried to pvp to make them wipe, bit silly I thought but eh,
fair enough. Other Horde dpsed the boss, also fair enough IMO, but a
whole load of idiots on general chat were really having a go at those
Horde who helped, swearing at them and all. That just left me baffled
- it's only a game: he respawns in 2 hours, and it's probably the only
time all week that Alliance got to tag him, why exactly does it
require throwing of tantrums and screaming insults if some people are
nice enough to help out? I can't understand that attitude at all; if
it was still a really low spawnrate then fair enough! But it's not,
and we get the tag nearly every time, so why on earth begrudge it to
the other side for once.

Between that and the "anal" spam in trade later that night (must've
been at least 50 different people doing it, I had much fun with the
right-click report language button :-P), I despair for the human race
at times, I really do...

Different realms, different problems - Usually never have an issue
finding enough of those....just roaches... :)

That's been an ongoing issue since lfr's started. People queuing for
heals and dps'ing to cut the line. It's slowed down a lot from the DS
days, since the new looting system that only gives you gear for the role
your in. They could eliminate it by not allowing a player to enter a
LFR raid as heals or tank when it pops without being in the correct
spec, and then not allowing them to change to a dps spec once they are
in. TBH, almost never does someone change a role (*not spec*) in
LFR....Maybe the off-tank if only one tank is needed, but that's about
it and there certainly isn't a LFR in the ToTK raids where you only need
one tank. It'd be a bit tricky to pull off though - You couldn't have
it block changing specs completely - I think it's actually encouraged
for a mage to switch from arcane to frost for a fight, for example. But
let that druid who queued as heals try and dps as a kitty in resto spec
and see if it goes unnoticed when he pulls 15k dps. :)

It's because you succeeded and the fact he was a high dps that people
didn't kick him. That and I bet if you checked there were probably more
than a few of his dps guildies in there as well, who were pre-grouped
with him to get a quick ride in with him as well. If you were wiping,
people would be wondering what that hell was going on and when it was
mentioned only 4 were healing, it would have been dealt with.

Hehe yeah, I checked the official forums and only one thread about it,
most people were from my realm and faction lol - some folk from other
servers didn't see what the problem was, but my server has a huge
issue. Well, Horde does, I bet Alliance don't if they get it on
different days to us (the rotations seem different at least, I've
often seen Alliance players killing stuff in areas we don't have
dailies for)

Not a bad idea, although I'm hoping that people being able to select
to get loot for other specs will help a bit, at least that way people
who like fast queues can queue as healer and heal, but get dps loot so
don't have to be in dps spec to get their dps loot. Not sure how much
difference it'll make though.

As for changing roles, there's one case for that which I've
experienced - Sha of Fear. No need for more than about 2 healers on
that one, I've often seen healers suddenly become dps without issues;
I myself switch to my dps spec but as it's Disc, I still heal via
Atonement (I'm usually top healing by miles lol), even though I'm not
casting any healing spells, just nuking my best dps rotation :-) As
long as all sic healers don't switch, I've no objection to 2-3 or them
going dps to ease the boredom!

No, we succeeded *after* the failed kick, not before it; that's why he
came up for votekick, as we'd wiped and he wasn't healing. Not one of
the people who vocally defended him was on his realm either; I'd not
have been surprised if they had been, but it was people from other
realms saying to leave him alone, which made no sense to me. That
being said I didn't think we failed because of healing anyway, more
because of the 10 million adds running rampant around the place, but
still, didn't expect the kick to fail when someone blatantly cheated
the rest of us by playing the wrong role...

Hmmm - Not sure I agree on that completely, unless your a healer
confident that you can heal in your offspec enough to at least keep the
tank and some dps alive if/when your the poor soul heals that gets
sucked over to the 5-man on the pagoda thing. If the tank dies there,
it may well be a wipe if you can't bring him up afterwards. The damage
from the death blossom thing is pretty heavy at the end of that
phase.....at least it used to be.

Yea - don't understand it myself either then. I always vote to kick

me. I get really pissed if I'm healing and it's a stuggle, to find out
the shammy healer is # 9 on heals and #2 dps... If I'm dps, things are
gong well, and the healers don't care if one of the healers is dpsing,
then who am I to start complaining about it?

True, I'm sure I've seen healers go dps spec on that fight though,
unless they're all like me with Disc and have a healy/dps hybrid
maybe. I never really heal with Disc but Atonement is enough for that
bit, thankfully!

Fair way to see it :-) I'm generally not bothered if one of the
healers is dpsing, *if* it's a fight we can manage fine with 5 healers
anyway due to experience/overgearing (frankly, it's a bit boring
healing if everyone's healing really well as you find yourself just
overhealing as everything gets sniped), however, I don't think ToT is
in that category just yet. I for one ran oom on that fight and given I
was top of the meters someone linked to show lack of healing (phew, I
was hoping I wouldn't be bottom lol), I can only assume the other
healers were suffering even more. Or maybe I went oom due to healing
too much, but I believe I'm fairly careful regarding that; it used to
be my biggest fault but nowadays I've learned to hold off on heals a
little if I'm not at 90%+ mana, and usually it works, when I'm not
carrying the slack of people who'd rather dps :-P

My realm was at 98% last night, so I'll be doing that when I get home
- at least I think it was phase 6.

Think everyone is at least phase 5 now. It doesn't say phase 6 when you
hit it. Once you get past phase 5, the progress bar disappears
altogether, and the whole island is open/not grayed out.

I'll still be running the dailies for valor...It's an easy place to max
valors while waiting for ques, esp if you can get in on rares being
fought that usually drop an easy 15 point valor token....

BTW regarding reputation, while I knew the Kirin-Tor Offensive rep
tokens you occasionally get (and can buy after the Treasure trove if you
found any parchments) were account bound and could send to alts, what I
didn't know was that Bliz would allow them to be freely used on sub 90
toons. My monk is level 82 and is halfway to honored without
(obviously) setting foot on the island. I just keep sending him all rep
tokens in the mail from my two main toons who are maxed and can't use
them, and he collects them from the mailbox and I have a clicking party.
Would be pretty funny to see a level 15 toon that was exalted with the
Kirin Tor offensive.... lol

I maxed KTO rep a while back. The only one I have left is Shado-Pan
Offensive. Since that is only obtainable by downing ToT bosses, it's
going to take a while. Next Tuesday the final section opens, and after
that we'll be able to get 12x330 = 3960/week, I think. I'm about 20%
into Honored at this point, so I'm looking at a couple months. The
banner doesn't help, I *can't* solo them, and there is no commission
to ease grinding through Revered.
Reminds me Hydraxian Waterlords.

Honored does give access to ilvl 522 gear. While I'm starting to get
Tier 15 (502) drops, I'm reluctant to give up my 4 piece Tier 14 bonus
(ilvl 496), so I may just stockpile 522 gear until I can swap in 4
pieces at once. I'm currently at avg ilvl 496, so I'm doing OK.

I need to find a new raid team; LFR is nowhere near as much fun.

Hah we got there yesterday as well, I was surprised to find Nalak up
as I'd thought you were a phase ahead of us! Seems an easy kill, but
then, when half the server is killing him the lag is so high that he
can't actually do very much lol. We'll see later in the week if he's
actually difficult or not, when more normal-sized groups try him ;-)

Enjoyed the scenario too, cool introduction to Nalak, and nice bit of
interaction between Lor'themar and Jaina, I'm really enjoying how
Blizz have presented the whole Horde and Alliance storyline this
expansion. Looking at info for 5.3 that one will ramp things up even
more, looking forward to it (and thinking it may be time to level an
Alliance alt so I can see their storyline too...)

Rares are awesome valor; I can very much recommend an addon called
RareCoordinator; when you visit the island it puts a window on your
screen that says when each rare was last killed (so long as they were
seen by someone else with the addon) which makes predicting who will
spawn next far easier, as long as a few others on your server have it.
I've come to the conclusion there's a spawn window of 30-60 mins, so
looking at which rares were killed 25+ mins ago works pretty well. I
got 400 valor to hit the cap in a couple of hours on Tuesday night,
much more relaxing than heroics/scenarios and more fun than enduring
bloody Compy Stomp lol (I do the dailies when that one is not up; when
it is, I stop there :-P)

Oh wow nice! Here was me just sending to my 90 druid lol, once I get
him to honoured for a belt I'll pick a not-90 alt to send to then, a
476 belt just for gold is a great boost for a newly dinged alt.

I downed him first thing yesterday as someone was putting together a
group right when I logged, and he was pretty easy. Just stay out of
crap and your supposed to run under him only when you get lightening
tether....We did it with a 25 man group (2 tanks, 5 heals) and he was
gone in about 2-3 minutes... Got nothing but gold....twice with my bonus
role... :(

Yea - Got my resto druid through last night, but didn't stick around for
the aftermath story this time. I saw the whole thing the night before. :)

Playing my kitty offspec on my healing druid always makes me appreciate
my mage. I blew through that (and my dailies) with so much ease, then
when I do it with my kitty spec, it always takes so much longer as her
OS feral gear is only so-so, while my mage is sitting at ilevel
508....Although it does give me a better perspective on what the NPC's
*should* feel like fighting. I don't die often, just stuff takes
longer. Funny though - I can solo the three big guys near the end of
your dailies (the spinning guy, the lightening guy, and the blood guy -
don't ask me names..lol) with no problem on my alt OS spec - just takes
a bit longer, *BUT*, I can't solo the damn big red devilsauraus. I can
on my mage, but not on my feral. The crap he puts down for a leather
melee - I can't seem to get out of the way fast enough. Most times
though, someone else comes along, which helps me out. :)

Me too, guess that's luck but was still hoping for someone, especially
with ungrateful little kids whining about 2x pvp drops - well pvp drop
is still higher ilvl than what I'm wearing! :-P

Surprsed you don't go balance instead of feral, can use your resto
gear then (may be a bit off on secondary stats but the major stuff
will be the same). All my hybrids are dualspecced with 2 specs that
use the same general stats, much less hassle, and given I love alts,
it's not much hardship to have a second character if I'm dying to try
the other spec out,

You must be on a lower pop server than me, I've never seen any of
those guys alone to try soloing them ;-) It was only a couple of
nights ago I first saw a rare alone to try soloing (the guy in the
back of the mine, got no response when I said he was up in general so
gave it a shot myself), and that was at 2am server time lol, usually
it's impossible to solo stuff because there's always other people
there! That devilsaur's purple stuff is annoying as heck though, seems
to be all over the place, it's a headache as ranged so melee would
suck on him, yeah.

I originally did go and leveled as a boomkin - and at the time the dps
sucked so bad it wasn't funny. It was right after MoP dropped and I
remembered going to do the Golden Lotus Dailies and my dps numbers were
horrible, no matter what I threw or tried out, my damage was horrid. I
even got to the point of reforging before doing dailies, then reforging
back after. I got so frustrated one day I tried feral, with a
crap/basic set of dps gear I could buy off the AH, and immediately did
10-15K more than I was as a boomkin with reforged heal gear. I'm not
sure if they made any changes to the boomer since, but tbh, I don't see
as many boomers around as I used to, so maybe it wasn't all me? dunno..
Besides the fact - I actually like playing feral more than boomkin,
plus having the stealth ability is nice doing the dailies. (except that
I keep forgetting that the raptors outside and the slaves of the Slavers
can see you) :)

It's not often I get them alone...just once in a while. But it's
typically when I play my alt, as it's late at night and everyone has
usually done thier dailies by then I'm guessing. Sometimes I solo
those guys down to 10% when someone shows up and gets in on it. It
doesn't bother me though as plenty of times I rode in at warp speed and
threw whatever ranged spell I could find (arcane barrage on my mage, or
moonbeam on my feral druid) as I'm flying off my mount through the air
so I could tag it before it died. :)

But suffice to say, those three are very easy to solo as they really
don't do much melee damage. You just have to go slow and have patience.
The spinning guy I just run and wait out his spin, and pull him out of
the metal electrical charges he throws down. The lightening guy is
basically the same thing - run out of the cloud for his big hit, and run
back in kiting him away from the floating electrical charges. It
actually takes more time soloing him because of the phase 2 part where I
have to go to all 4 locations to deactivate the electric beams
myself....lol The last guy doesn't even do damage to you unless you
stand in his one main attack that throws out a cone of blood on the
ground and is the easiest to solo...Of course these are just my
opinions.... :P

The red devilsaur is a lot harder as it's not just the purple crap that
does a TON of damage, but his green breath does almost as much, and on
melee your trying to dodge both, so you need to move/turn him to stay
out of his breath, and avoid the purple crap on the ground, so it's not
always an easy spin, and if you have to pull back in a straight line to
avoid the purple, his breath ends up catching up to you....I do not like
soloing him on feral and have died a few times on the
attempts...frustrating.... :)
