playing in Perth, Western Australia, normally on latencies of 800-900ms ..
today I'm getting 1.5 - 3 seconds making jousting impossible :(

Any other west Oz players here experiencing similar issues?

As an aside, I've realised I simply cannot duel US players with these
times - I wondered how people could have already hit me with a spell when I
can't even target them.. now I know better

Search the technical support posts for 'latency' and/or 'oceanic'
for hints and tips
also google for posts on the subect on whirlpool

Well I get around 200 - 300ms on average here in New Zealand, so I'd
think 800ms is awful and quite unplayable even in PvE for my tastes.
Certainly I'd not tolerate it for long.
I don't duel or do arenas, but I do play in BGs half decently (more to
do with my lack of skill than latency I think :-) ).
I play on Pacific time servers, not Oceanic ones (no RP available). Or
are they all based in the US regardless?

800 is not unusual, 1200 is getting bad
Oceanic just means clock time zone, the servers are in US.

Perth is the most remote capital, even with a perfect single
optical link with no switches light would take 140 ms.
Via optical they are getting 2x further than you, and your traffic gets in the way of
theirs :-)

They aren't that much different from your range but
with 100mbps to the home connections rolling out
it isn't going to get much better at the end of the long congested string.

350-1200-450 in a couple of seconds,
isps try to get dedicated links but 12,000km of dedication to Guam costs.
600ms is a 3 satellite bounce around the planet.
Reliability costs $150 a month extra :-)

latency can also come from the local machine with ever more
demanding patches and affected by server population load and
the level of ingame local activity
Of course, it could also be their wireless network has been hacked :-)

I suppose I should explicitly point out there are tools that may help
and some isps support tunnels but whether they will work
in your circumstances is suckitandsee wrt access method and equipment.

Used to be if you managed to get a lowered latency blizzard assumed you were being
powerlevelled and banned, don't know if that has changed.
Unfortunately I can't usually use them, there may be a magic wand with your name on it.

It has been real irregular on Muradin in the US. Just now I was getting
93 ms latency in Darkshore while seated at the Bountiful Table. But
last night I was getting latencies of more than 1800-1900 ms.
