Been pretty quiet in here... :)

So the 4th and last raid of the Thunder King opened up for LFR yesterday
and I got the chance to run it last night on "opening night" I really
was not in the mood to do so as opening day generally is a wipefest and
wanted to blow through the 1st two sections for valor and perhaps gear
drop, but my healing buddy talking / dragged me into it and at least I
didn't have a queue.

I had a guildie who got out of his run right before we entered who got
the completion achieve, and he had been in there for hours, and was
relieved that his lfr group (which I'm sure had changed over many times)
finally downed the thunder king....after 20 attempts and a 50% loser buff.

Great - this did not bode well, and chances were we were going to get
pulled into an existing run. But since there were 3 of us grouped up we
got into a fresh run, which was a nice surprise.

Bliz needs to visit this LFR and re-balance some things pronto. When I
say the first two bosses were easy, that's saying something. The first
is a 4 phase fight, with 4 sub-bosses and then the main, each taken one
at a time, and each having one rather simple mechanic to deal with. The
main/last boss is a "burn the boss" phase, where you have to simply deal
with each of the 3 mechanics introduced with the other 3. Similar to
the 1st boss in first section Heart of Fear, except your dealing with
all 3 at once, instead of one at a time. Sounds hard - isn't, really.

The second are female twins, with a day and night phase. There are 4
elemental pillars in the 4 corners of the room the dps can click on to
get help from, but was told it wasn't a requirement. Just dps the
correct twin and stay out of crap. So just target the tanks target and
shoot. Again - not very difficult at all. I know I'm missing some
things and abilities you have to watch out for, but this is just the gist.

We downed both on the first attempt, no deaths considering that most
hadn't seen it before.

Right at the end of this 2nd boss, it's like bliz just turned from
Tele-tubbies to porn. We almost wiped on the next set of trash going up
the stairs. The stairs are lightning shooting out of the walls you
either blast though or wait (aka: ICC after the ship fight, making your
way indoors, but it's not an instant death if you get hit). As your
navigating this stairway your fighting mobs, and at the top of the
stairs are a few nasty mobs that fill the vestibule with ground effect
lightning, so there's nowhere to stand. You can't go back down the
stairs due to the lightning there, and so our group just dps'ed them
asap, but the damage was very bad. Maybe there's another way to do it,
but I've only seen it the one time.

The last boss is a real pain in the ass on lfr the first night. So much
crap going on, and too much to write, so much you have to do. No
enrage, so one of our wipes actually took 14 minutes. 3 phase fight
with four pillars. dps/heals are critical this whole fight to keep the
adds from spawning by standing in blue swirls on the floor that
occasionally come out. Ones that are missed, and your overwhelmed with
adds, all while your working around the platform. Two "intermission
phases" where the boss goes to the center and all have to spread evenly
over the platform as he puts out the swirls again. If everyone does
there job, there should be little to no adds. But of course it's LFR on
the first night....heh. Anyway, 2nd phase is similar to the 1st, but
the last phase lightning balls come out no matter what and have be dps'd
asasp. All three phases he is occasionally casting a white electrical
spot on the ground all have to avoid or insta death. To add to the fun
in phase three, he also casts the favorite of the expansion, a wind.
So you are trying to get away from stuff while being blown around...

We had no wipes on the 1st two bosses (nor did anyone else I talked to)
and got the last boss on attempt 8, hence a re-balance of the 1st two to
make them harder (this is the last raid, after all - your killing the
Thunder King here - come on).

Considering the later attempts all were int he 15 minute range of time,
plus having to explain to every new person who came in then watch them
die as they experience it for the first time, and you can understand
why it took almost 2-1/2 hours to complete...

but at least I got the achieve - OH - **BEFORE YOU LEAVE GROUP*** make
sure you get the staff from the middle of the room after you down him
your first time so you can get rid of that annoying quest you've been
carrying around for weeks! :)

Yeah, I've been meaning to say something but first I had to *do*
something worth posting about lol. All I've done this week is farm
rares on IoT for valor: 5.5k at the reset, so I'll finally finish
Wrathion's test this week and be onto looking for a group for Change
of Command... wonder how long that one will take lol :-P

Only other thing of note to mention for me is a new low in character
naming that I saw last night... "Dieniggerdie", is surely not
acceptable in anyone's mind, so I'm hoping that players gets a ban in
addition to the rename they're pretty safe to receive very soon (I
reported him and I'd be surprised if I was alone...)

Omg, 20 attempts, eek. Makes me glad I'm still slacking and not even
done the 2nd one yet :-P Intending to get to it this week, we'll see,
problem for me is, because groups are usually rubbish at the end of a
week, if I don't get it done the first few days it has to wait till he
next reset, and usually I'm busy on other stuff the first few days,
hopefully I'll get round to it this time.

Yikes, sounds a bit offbalance then, two too easy and one probably a
bit too hard, oh well. At least you got him in the end! Hopefully by
the time I get around to it it'll be much faster but I'll make sure to
set aside a big chunk of time...

heh - You *might* want to check that again.....Rumor has it (and you can
check it out for me to confirm) that they dropped the 6K requirment to
3K. Only saw a mention of it in guild chat last night, (as I was busy
getting my ass kicked by the thunder king) so it may be something they
are doing for 5.3, as they were discussing 5.3 patch notes....Like I
said couldn't read it, but it sounds like it's changing if it hasn't
already.

I completed that on my healer alt and ran one of the required bg's

A little off topic , but:

O...M...G!! I had the most fun I've had in a long time doing something
I normally hate. When I go in on my mage, I die...a lot. Well, hell -
that's what mages do in general anyway...heh (joke). But I'm not the
best PvP'er by far and to go in and spend half the BG running back from
the cemetery, kinda sucks. I kill them, then they kill me. However - I
queued and went in on heals on my ilevel 396 druid, in full PvE gear and
had a blast. I started off healing my 10 man and I seemed to be getting
left alone to a point. Gradually, I think they realized I was a healer
and mounted a coordinated attack on me. I see now why PvP druid healers
were happy when they took out the forced tree form druid heals had to be
in before cata.....Nothing shouts out "HEY - I'M HEALING OVER HERE!!!"
like a big damn tree, so I stayed in worgen form. I kept every hot and
basically tank healed myself as 3 to 4 of them were working on me and
couldn't take me down, even cc'ing me. While they were focused on me,
my fellow players came up behind them and started taking them out. When
they had to change focus off me, I was at full health and started back
on healing them. I've never been in a BG where I didn't die, and it
felt good! It was still a close match as there were various members of
both teams still focused on controlling orbs and the such, but as heals
I hung out in the middle healing everyone and keeping myself alive. I
got "Great job" at the end and was told many times there never any
healers in the groups and that it makes it so much easier when there
are. Damn that was fun!

Yea, yea - we probably didn't face the greatest horde team, but if I
wasn't there it would probably gone to them. That's the part that felt
great too, so let me smile a bit before anyone knocks me back to reality
- which might happen on the next BG.

I'm up for a Change of Command run :-).

I got home late last night, and had to drop out after the first two
bosses to go to bed. Sounds like I made the right decision. I agree -
they were easier than I expected. I'll have to watch some videos of
the final boss before I go back.

At the moment, I'm mainly trying to max Valor each week, and max Shado-
Pan Assault rep; these are somewhat at odds, because I could get VP
faster in the 5.1 raids. The ilvl 502 items I'm getting from LFR are
only occasionally interesting - I can purchase a lot of 522 gear at
honored, and will get more at revered. While I've got some of the
latest tier tokens, I'm not going to use them until I can get a 4
piece bonus at least - the previous tier gives a 4 second Holy Light
cooldown, which is very valuable, and not lightly tossed aside.

It's in 5.3, so I may as well do it now, given I'm so close, will get
there this week regardless.
Sounds fun! I always prefer healing to dps in pvp as I just die all
the time, but at least as a healer I feel useful, can often keep some
other people alive long enough to do some useful damage :-)

On my runs, my pugs won both BGs the first time around. I *think* I
was a help; most PvPers in pugs are not playing for the team, just for
themselves, and having me (a healer) just healing and *not* trying to
score points was an advantage. I scored very low at the end, but I got
the quest ticked off, which was the important thing.

Finally got the final boss down last night; I lucked into an LFR group
that was already there, with 4 stacks of failbuff. We got him down at
6 stacks; frankly, in LFR this isn't too hard an encounter if everyone
understands the mechanics. It was a lot harder to train people to the
Durumu (eyeball boss) encounter.

True, that once it's understood, it's like "oh!". Like I said, this
(and yes, the eyeball boss!) the first night or two were nightmares.
The fight was explained at least 6 times as every wipe some people left,
and were replaced, and it never ceased to amaze me watch a shadow priest
who was there from the 3rd wipe, attack the boss and then proceed to
stand in the center of the lightning...*every* time. She was dead 5
more times within 30 seconds of the start of the fight every
time....healer finally lost it after the last time and started screaming
at them in chat...."Seriously - are you F-ing kidding me <insert toon
name>?!?!?!? Luckily for the priest, we downed him that attempt.

My guildie with 20 stacks was on Tuesday (1st day) within 2 hours of it
becoming available....Mine was 8 stacks at midnight of opening day, you
got in on night 3, with 6 stacks so it sounds like it's improving. :)

I might be running it again on my healer alt tonight so I'll see if it's
any better, as I maxed valors and ran all 4 parts of ToTK on my mage
this week.

Side note: I'm at 15 secrets of the empire for the legendary quest
line...5 more to go before I get to go start up the forge on the Island
of Thunder. I had stuck my head in that building when I was exploring
the island and was wondering what it was for. It's the building/doorway
on the right, near the lightning boss that's part of your dailies I
believe. I'm hoping I can get 5 secrets from the 4 raids next week....

What's the droprate like on those? Being at 15 already sounds like
it's certainly better than those sigils were, at least, I sure hope it
is! I'm trying to hold off on farming ToT much until I've got that
quest, as if I have to farm till I'm sick of it like with the sigils,
then I'd like to not be bored of the place before I even get the quest
lol, but if it's less bad then I won't be so bothered :-)

It's hard to say - I'm seems like it's probably the same as the sigils.
I have 15, the healer buddy I run with has 12, but another guildie
who frequently comes with us has only 9. It seems just based on luck.
Mine was horrible with the sigils, so maybe bliz is making it up to me
now? Either that, or they are going to mess with me and get me to 18
or 19, then go 3 weeks before I get another one. :)

It also seems that as this legendary quest line progresses, either
people are dropping out or are falling/coming up behind later. Everyone
gets the 1st quest when they hit 90, and I remember a lot of people
talking about getting sigils during 5.0 raids. It seems this quest line
makes the quest-er participate in most every aspect of the game. Then
when 5.1 dropped, it seemed like those last two quests were show
stoppers for many, esp solo/loner type players. The "forced" PvP
section ended it for some, but the real hold up seemed to be the
quasi-raid you need to put together or be part of, that you just can't
get in a queue for. You almost need to belong to a guild or pay to get
8-10 other players who may not have anything to gain doing it. However,
it is a legendary questline and it's not supposed to be easy. I'm
actually a little ticked they dropped the 6K valor down to 3K in the
next patch. I've gotten 2 toons through the 6K, however I guess they
are doing that so new 90's don't have to spend 6 weeks at that level,
and make it just 3 weeks. The 6 weeks was probably set at that pace and
put people in a holding pattern while waiting for 5.3 to drop, and have
them feel they are progressing and not feel like they are doing nothing
on the quest line for weeks.

Heh well I *really* hope it's not like the wisdom sigils, power was
fine but it took me 65 bosskills to get 10 wisdom :-/ I know there's
more bosses this tier but still, it's a bit much!

Yeah, I see why they lowered it a bit, give some chance for new 90s to
ever get there, but 3k seems a little low, I'd have pitched it at 4k
or 5k myself. 6k is painful frankly; if you're not a person who enjoys
capping valor every week anyway (which I am not: I burn out), it takes
forever and really feels like a massive chore. IoT rares have helped a
lot the past few weeks to be fair but still, I can't wait for this to
be over! Just a little annoyed that it's changing *right now*, when
I'm almost there, sigh.

The finding a group thing is the one time where I am delighted to be
on a very highly populated server biased heavily towards my faction:
without specifically looking, I see people LFM for that quest every
few days, so hopefully I'll find a group within a week or two! The pvp
one on the other hand will be painful, I'll just have to hope for the
best there; I do like how it covers so many aspects of the game, but
the group quest will be hard for people on lower populated realms,
that's for sure.

I'm stuck at the 'quest/raid' bit; I may look at that 3rd party site
to find a group doing it.

The 6k -> 3k change doesn't bother me much; I've been trying to max VP
each week anyway.

Don't hate me too much then lol - I got it done tonight, first time I
looked lol. I passed up a group earlier as I was in the middle of
cooking dinner, waited around on trade chat after dinner and joined a
group that formed after maybe an hour, then when I arrived before the
rest, another group was doing it, I stuck a few dots up to help out
and got credit! Helped my own group out anyway as it'd be pretty mean
to bail on them, but yeah, net result was I could've done it 3 times
over today lol. Sometimes being on a stupidly high pop server has
advantages... usually it's a pain but for this quest, it's good!

Took me a while to get round to this step but I certainly didn't need
to be scared of Temple of Kotmogu; I actually think it's instantly
become my favourite battleground! Really fun one, and just for once,
healers get mostly ignored lol, everyone goes for the orb carriers
instead, which suits me nicely as a healer :-P Lost the first game
heavily but still enjoyed it, next time out we won by miles, not even
sure what alliance were doing by the end, perhaps they just gave up
after we held 3 orbs for a while; we had 4 by the end so an
achievement for me as well as the quest credit :-)

I'll give Silvershard Mines a go tomorrow most likely, that one
sounded rather more complicated lol. I have a feeling if anyone
actually tries to attack me than my rather lacking gear will show up;
atm I have 5 pvp epics from Sha, 4 more pvp blues that my tailor
crafted and all other slots are pve epics, which at least boost my
mana regen and stamina but ofc no resil or pvp power. Worked in Temple
where I wasn't really being hit much (had no issues surviving when
people did go for me but the orb carriers would nuke them down in no
time anyway) but I don't expect to be let off so easily in other BGs
:-P

The mines sound more complicated, but they aren't, esp for a healer. I
only did it once so I'm no expert by a long shot, but as a healer all I
did was watch my mini-map and follow the biggest group around as they
were directing the mine carts and healed my arse off. The Horde came
after me much more on this, but when that happened I just tank healed
myself and threw every dot on me and kept myself alive. Sometimes they
eventulally got me down, but that didn't bother me as it was 2-3 less of
them doing what they were supposed to do and allowed my team to direct
their mine carts where they needed to go. I actually had one guy give
up on me when he couldn't get me down on his own and run to help his team.

Don't worry about PvP gear. I did them all in my PvE gear and was no
issues...Felt really strong. I could be my ilevel 505 PvE healing gear
against their generally lower PvP gear, but I don't know....

See? Told you there was nothing to work yourself up over! :)

Hehe it's awesome as a healer, says a lot that I'll actually go back
there for fun - I haven't pvped in ages but that one's worth putting
some effort in for :-)

Cool, I'll take the follow the crowd approach then lol.

Hehe :-P Glad to hear gear isn't an issue, my mix was alright in
Temple anyway, felt pretty strong although I'd expect to be better if
I had more pvp power on it. This may give me the push I needed to get
back into pvp though; I used to really enjoy pvp healing, until it got
to the stage that being behind on gear at all meant you got killed as
soon as anyone looked at you. Quite liking this base 40% resil this
expansion, seems to help a good bit, and when it changes to 60% or so
in 5.3 that'll be even better I think. Don't mind not having the best
gear for pvp when I'm undergeared, I just mind having zero chance at
all lol :-P

The "follow the crowd" tactic worked for me lol :-) Followed a bunch
to the nearest mine track, and then just stuck with that cart
afterwards, never had more than 2 alliance at a time attack it so most
of the horde went off elsewhere, but me and a hunter kept capping and
recapping the cart. No idea what was really going on but we won so
that'll do! ;-) Seemed interesting enough that I'll likely go back
anyway, I'm liking these new BGs, they've managed to get something
different to existing ones yet also fun, don't think I've really liked
a new BG (except Wintergrasp but that's a rather different concept)
since Eye of the Storm came out!

Onto Secrets and trillium for me now (and oh joy, I thought it was 20
trillium, not 40... prices are now over double what they were when I
got the 20, so I guess I'll mine my own up lol), I guess it's time for
me to explore ToT properly; being so close to this stage of the chain
meant I never got round to it till now as I didn't want to get sick of
the place and then have to farm it for ages for quest items (as
happened with the sigils), so should be some fun coming up for me :-)
And hopefully some loot too :-P

Cool --

Well, my friend still can't get through the solo scenario on his Pally
tank, so he told me to go ahead and turn in my quest from completing it
(and downing Nalak with charging up the lance Wraithion had my do) and
not wait for him. So I turned it in last night waiting for the achieve
for "part III", and it didn't come. Ah - have to go back out to that
nearby hill he likes to admire the view from... OK - turned it in again
and listened to his whole speech, after which he gives you a special
meta gem for your helm (your choice of 4 for whichever spec). Mine is a
nice piece (Courageous Primal Diamond - +324 Intellect and chance on
beneficial spell to make your spells cost no mana for 4 sec.)

Ok.....here comes my achieve and I can relax with this quest until 5.3....

Nope - the S.O.B wants me to go on ANOTHER gather quest. !@##$$#!

Now I have to get 12 Titan runestones (not sigils, not secrets....sigh)
from bosses in the throne of thunder raid....

...but the catch is that they only drop from the last 6 bosses (i.e the
last two parts of the raids) and are not available from the 1st
two.....ARRRRGGG!!!

I really am starting to hate this Wrathion guy....I don't mind the
challenge stuff, but having a double gather on this section of 5.2?? 32
pick-ups in total, with the last 12 of them only from the last 6
bosses....<bangs head against desk>

...and I just looked up the rest of the quest line. After I gather
these 12 runestones, I have to go back and kill the Thunder King and
collect his heart and bring back to Wraithon....

...which is ironic considering he's one of the bosses who drops the
secrets and runestones and I've killed him already a few times - now,
don't you think that Wrathion would see have asked "BTW, if you happen
to kill the Thunder King while collecting the secrets or runestones,
grab his heart for me - will ya?" But no - he's going to ask me to
bring me all the runestones to him, THEN have me go back and kill him
again.......What a dick. :)

Argh lol! Thanks for the heads up though, that means I'll concentrate
on the first two parts for a little bit and not get sick of the last
two before I need to start the runestone part ;-)

Rofl typical :-) It'll be interesting to see how many people have the
patience to get this chain right to the end by the final patch of the
expansion, I'm betting not very many! I'm liking Blizzard's new way of
handling legendaries here; rather than the lucky people (who raid
hardcore), or the people who talk their guild into healping them with
it it (who raid hardcore), it's the people who *really* want to work
for it who get it, and it's open to all playstyles, at least so long
as you don't mind trying a bit of everything; only obstacle involving
anyone other than yourself is the group boss (which sucks for low pop
servers, I bet). But no more requirements of being in a serious raid
guild, and no more blind luck involved, just a whole lot of work, so
anyone who gets the legendary item in the last patch will have really,
really earned it :-)

Which I will probably finish 2 weeks before the next expansion comes
out, and then will be obsolete and replaced by a green quest item within
4 hours.

Your shorting yourself and it's a bit catch-22... You limit yourself to
the 1st two raids for the secrets, and you are cutting half of your
chances on possible drops in a week and they only may drop once a week
from each boss, like the sigils. So you will technically have to
'grind' the first two over and over perhaps twice as much to get the 20
secrets, as much as you'll have to grind the second two to get the 12
titan runestones.... 6 in one hand, 1/2 dozen in the other.

I will also say that the system is screwy on that stuff. One week I ran
#1 and get 1 secret. Then #2 and get nothing. Then #3 and get 2, and
#4 and got 3. The next week, I got 5 combined from the 1st two and none
from the last two. The next week, I got 1 out of all 4
instances.....frustrating.

Almost wish they'd make them a guarantee drop if you use your bonus
rolls. So you can be guaranteed of 3 per week. That would make people
think about running dailies if they weren't, to get the lessers to turn
in for the 3 bonus roll chances per week. It'd also make the player
think carefully if they want to use that bonus roll on a gear drop
chance on Nalak, for example or save it for a secret/runestone....Little
like gambling. But I also know that I would be done with gathering 12
runestones in 4 weeks max if I didn't get any regular drops....I like to
plan things.. :)

Same - Never had legendary nutt'in. Has it been announced what the end
legendary item is? Or does only Bliz know? I started thinking that
it would be nice if it is not a pc of gear/weapon for once and would
rather have something that will be rare that be relevant way into future
patches like a mount. But it'd better not be some ugly thing, but
something truly epic and beautiful that makes peoples heads turn and
shouts out by it's mere presence that the owner completed the legendary
quest line.....Something like the rare Pheonix raid drop from BC
....When someone flies in on that, you see it coming. :)

How about a life size Deathwing...Something that won't even fit not only
in the AH or bank, but won't even fit in the entire trade district? lmao

But at least it wont be obsolete in the future with it's only use to be
there for trasnmorg'ing...

Hahaha that'd be awesome :-D

Yeah, would be nice! I think it's likely to be a weapon though, but I
guess we'll find out when 5.4 comes around. I know there's ilvl 600
cloaks for 5.3 which will be pretty overpowered in themselves, that
much higher than anything else available is like a legendary, and I
bet it'll last us till well into the next expansion's levelling curve.

True, BUT, if droprates are the same per boss for sigils, I'm not
actually reducing my chances, since I burn out very fast if I do more
than one LFR per week, more than two will mean I just stop dead. So,
not really a problem, I'd never do all four regardless, it just means
I put my focus onto the ones I won't need again later for even more
farming :-)

That'd be a good system! Random drops are so annoying if you hit a bad
streak, or even if you hit a good run and then get disappointed when
it goes back to average after that!
