I found that Humbert's Helm that drops in Hillsbrad from the Dwarves
usually sells for 25g+ pretty easily. Problem is, it's only a drop
for Horde. :)
Any other drops (that aren't 0.00000001% drop rate) that fetch good
money in AH that a lvl 20-40 can find?
how is it only a horde drop?
> how is it only a horde drop?
The dwarves that drop it are friendly to Alliance.

I got the Twisted Chanter's Staff, although it's a L19, not 20, from a mob
in The Barrens. I think I sold it for about 70g.

Howling Blade from Skhowl (rare spawn) in Alterac Mountains
Blackvenom Blade from Rohh the Silent (rare spawn) in Redridge Mountains
Shadowfang from Archmage Arugal in Shadowfang Keep
Assassin's Blade from trash mobs in Shadowfang Keep
Blade of the Basilisk from Ironeye the Invincible (rare spawn) in
Shimmering Flats
It doesn't make much sense that the OP restrict the level range to 20 to
40. It ought to be *19* to 40. Or perhaps even 18 to 40, although I'm no
twinkologist, so I don't know.

Tangy clam meat from the murlocks on the coast near southshore. A stack
of that sells for an easy 10g on my server and you can pick up 2 or 3
stacks in half an hour.
Or the alchemy recipe that can be bought from the goblin that hangs
around in one of the buildings near Jitters in Darkshore(?), costs a few
silver to buy, always sells for over 10g on the AH.
T.
Feel free to expand the range. :)

From what I understand Shadowfang can only drop from level 21+ mobs,
and the only 21+ mob remaining in SFK after the level revamp is Arugal.
Items with a required level of 18 or 19 go for much more than items
with a required level of 20 or 21 (provided that they have useful
stats)
The lower level battlegrounds group people together by level into the
following ranges: 10-19, 20-29, 30-39 etc. If you want to be the best
that you can in a battleground you'll by the best equipment you can
and you'll level until you get to the top end of these ranges. The
best equipment you can get will be those with a required level close
to your level (i.e. 18 or 19 for the lowest range). Nobody will twink
a level 20 or 21 player and so nobody will pay a lot of money for an
item with a required level of 20 or 21.

I don't want to expand the range just to expand it. I just want to call
attention to the phenomenon of twinkery.

Also Stranglekelp, gathered out in the water at Westfall's coastline.
One trip up and down the shore, taking a little over half an hour, gets
you between 2 and 2.75 stacks, with each stack selling for a little over
11 gold, on my server.
I have no idea why Strangekelp is so valuable, but I kinda like grinding
for it once in a while.
Also pick up any Briarthorn you see. It sells really well, and there's a
little extra cash if you find some Swiftthistle in it (Swiftthistle is
also found in Mageroyal, but Mageroyal itself sells for much less than
Briarthorn, so some might not bother, although I do).

I didn't know about that goblin. Or rather, I probably did explore Raven
Hill (ghost) town at some point in late 2006, but since then I've
forgotten about the goblin.

Everybody has forgotten, hence the price on the AH ;)
T.
Thanks for the tip, then.
And it does make sense that everybody forgets. I expored Raven Hill town
once, but did not find anything memorable except Jitters and (I presume)
some neutral vendor that didn't sell anything that interested me at that
time.
What's the encouragement to visit Raven Hill anyawy? Is there any? I
vaguely seem to recall that I once encountered some Mages on a
ghost-busting expedition to Raven Hill, while I was there to talk with
Jitters. But as far as I know, that's all there is to attract people, so
no wonder we all forget about the goblin.

Alliance players have tons of quests that involve Raven Hill. I use that
vendor (and have purchased/resold the recipe many times) regularly to vendor
the accumulated trash from killing the horrors, fiends, etc.
It's a great place to pickpocket, too. :)

There's a vendor hanging out behind one of the captured Orcs in Durnhold
Keep (the ruins, not in the instance) who has some limited edition weapons
that sell for a good bit more on the AH than they cost to buy, if you
happen to catch him with those pieces for sale. (Nothing earth shattering,
but at level 22, it all adds up.)

That's a really good point. I never thought of using vendor items as
money-makers on the AH.
Oh, let me count the ways....
The shadow oil recipe for alchemists.
The mechanical dragonling plans.
The mithril dragonling plans.
The first aid books and bandages for going from skill 150 to 225.
Of course, you can't forget the first aid books and bandages from outland.
I've sold all of the above for absolutely insane mark ups on the AH.
I find the 1st set of first aid books and scroll to be rather humorous
considering that they are unlimited quantity vendor items.
The outland first aid books are almost justifiable, but they still have
insane mark ups. Yes, a low level character attempting to get them will
die many times, but once they get to the vendor, a flight master is
nice and close, so just pick up the flight point and for future restocking
runs, you just catch a nice safe flight. And the initial run doesn't have
to cost you anything in repairs if you simply make the run naked.

Oh, yeah, I remember her. An elf, IIRC, up at the upper prisoner, on the
ledge to the north.
I love finding out of the way vendors. I just stopped at the one on the
back wall of Alterac Ruins to pick up the Frost Oil formula, which is
needed for a quest involving the neutral gnomes near Kargath in the
Badlands. There's also the engineering vendors in the hills of STV and the
Hinterlands, and the basement of Ravenholdt Manor. And the goblin on the
road between Lakeshire and Darkshire.
I had the Cold Basilisk Eye drop once in STV:
And one wandering between Crossroads and Ogrimmar, as I recall, on the
Horde side.
I'm pretty sure that is the one that goes back and forth between
Crossroads and Orgr. Don't remember seeing him north of Crossroads
(but given my memory, that may not hold much water).

Are you thinking of the one that commutes from XR to Ratchet?
Probably, yeah. The day I ran into him, I was running around getting flight
points. I've mostly played Alliance, so I'm still largely unfamiliar with
Horde territory.
Yeh... massive brain fart. :)
The night watch quest where you get the Night Watch Quiver is good for
hunters, and the reward for the legend of Stavlen quest gives a nice
ring.
There's also an area up a hill in the middle of the zone, don't recall
the name, but I've walked in and never found anything other than
structures that look like they were elf made.
Ah, Twilight Grove.
Go visit it again sometime. Frequently you'll find one of four world boss
dragons there.

Yes that's the name.

I've gone in maybe 2 or 3 times and never found anyone. It could be
that those times I've gone in just after the boss was killed, or maybe
it doesn't appear unless you have a quest there. However the area
does look out of place for that zone, which is a human zone while the
area looks like something that belongs in Night Elf territory.
>There's also an area up a hill in the middle of the zone, don't recall

There's sometimes a dragon in there, never actually found the way in
myself, or met any of those dragons, but one of the world boss green
dragons sometimes pops up there - Lethon, Emeriss, Ysondre and a
fourth I forget right now.
Considering you can't learn 375 first aid until you are first level 50
and have your first aid to 300, its very possible to make the run
without dieing. I did it when my warlock hit 50. Stuff like pots
help, as well as having a pet, but it wasn't difficult and I think any
class would be able to make it through the choke points full of mobs.
As horde, I went north from Shat to Zangarmarsh, then east into HFP.
Made it through the ravagers only getting dismounted once. Used my VW
to keep the mobs off me, then sacced him for the shield and kept
running till I broke combat. Mounted and made the rest of the run to
the FA trainer without incident. Thats at the BE town there in HFP,
and I needed to go to Thrallmar too for my other professions. Still
at level 50, I made the run the rest of the way across the zone. Had
a near miss at the choke point with the orcs, not from the orcs, but
from a level 70 alliance player. Fortunately they left me alone, and
I made it to Thrallmar just fine. By the time I came back to Outland
at 58, my herbalism and skinning was well over 330.
In Sun Rock Retreat in Stonetalon Mountain, on the upper floor of the
inn is a vendor that sells a limited supply recipe for Lesser Fire
Resistance potion. I don't know if it still sells good, but I know it
used to be well worth the cost of the flight out there, the purchase
price, and the flight back.
All this is true, but who said anything about getting the first aid books
for myself at level 50? You did notice the phrases "insane mark ups",
"restocking", "money-makers on the AH"? This was to stock up on product
to sell at the AH for profit. Getting 5 or 6 gold profit per sale at
level 40 is quite nice. However, getting the books at level 40 in order
to be able to sell them is something else. And if I level another set of
characters, I just may see about making that death run at level 30 (I did
it at level 40 because I had a mount and was able to usually outrun the
mobs chasing me).
Right now at level 60ish, I'm no longer buying things from vendors and
reselling them on the AH since I have other means of getting cash that
provide a much higher return on time invested. But these other methods
aren't reallly practical until you have at least 1000 gold to play with.
You have to go up a hill on the southside, leading to a pathway. I
went back last night using my lvl 59 hunter and found Ysondre lurking
around. I don't know if he was there because I used a higher level
alt than before or if it was just chance that he was there this time.
There's also a path leading to a gateway but going thru doesn't do
anything. Maybe you have to be on a quest or something like that for
the gateway to take you anywhere.
I think the previous lore about these portals were that they lead to
the Emerald Dream, hence why they are all guarded by green dragons.
Yes, me dumb, me don't understand nothing! :P
Yes, you are probably right, there's NO portal to hall of aspects,
bacause only Aspects can go there :)
Stanglekelp is used the water breathing potion.
Emerald Dream huh? I wonder if a druid going to that area has any
effect? Actually I'm wondering if there are certain conditions that
cause the dragon to appear there since I had gone before and not found
one.
Also in free action potions, popular among pvpers I believe?
I think it's just random spawns, like all the other world bosses
(Kazzak, Doomwalker, Azuregos etc). Would be interested to see some
more about the Emerald Dream in the game; I'm just reading the War of
the Ancients trilogy and learning a bit about it with Malfurion going
there, sounds a fascinating place so it'd be great to learn more.
Albeit tricky to implement, given that only druids can go there...
which I guess is why it's not in the game yet!
The first time I went there was with my level 28 hunter (first toon, very
new to the game, still trying to discover every bit of the map). I walked up
there, saw the dragon, thought "cool...." and saw the spirit healer :-)
Been back a few times but the dragon wasn't there.
Went back the day before yesterday, took her down with 22 level 70s without
much plan really and it ended up being a close fight, there were times where
there were only 3 people alive and/or fighing: tank, pala-healer and one
warlock, all the others on the corpse run or frozen by the debuff :-)
Cheers

How do you like it? I've just finished the "Demon Soul" part and am about to
start on the third part. I am really enjoying myself. I have read up on most
of the lore on WoWWiki but found that it was too abstract for me to remember
much in detail (a bit like boring history lessons at school :-) but those
bits I read about in the novels set in Azeroth I can remember really well.
It's made my Kara and CoT1 runs much more fun since I realise what went on
there...
I have also started playing (well cheating really :-) through the old WC2
and WC3 games in order to learn a little more about the lore.

That was exctly the stage I was at when I wrote the above! Completed it
last night (long train journey was handy), and I loved it; like you I
can never remember much detail about the history I only learn on wowwiki
etc, but that which is in the novels really comes alive to me. Suddenly
all those characters seem like real people, and I spent some time on the
wiki looking up all the characters etc and learning a little more -
seems there's more than one version of the events in those books (makes
sense, the original wontt have 3 time travellers messing around in it
;-)), but the general idea is much the same in both cases.
Like you, Kara and OHB both mean so much more to me now; it's great to
finally understand the history there. And having seen a lot of the
dragons' history I'm *really* looking forward to the dragon parts in
WotLK!

I've got WC3, will have to make time to try it soon, should have some
nice details I don't currently know.

I had finished the book a couple of weeks ago and it was very good to
know the history of the areas I visited in the game. I went to
Aszhara after reading this and found myself thinking about history as
I looked at the ruins. It brings a new perspective to the game.
Also, if you're familiar with Yahoo Groups, there was a Warcraft group
set up and they have some useful files there, including a collection
of the various lore from the Warcraft games bound together in one
file, called "The Lore of the World of Warcraft". Each chapter has
it's source shown at the beginning, some examples, "The Titans & the
Shaping of the Universe (Also called "Mythology of the Titans." Found
in the Library of the Scarlet Monastery)", "Sargeras & the Betrayal
(Found in Ratchet.) "The World Tree & the Emerald Dream (Found in the
Scarlet Monastery.)", but listed in the order that the events
occurred much like a history book.
That sounds much like the lore section on WoWWiki... the source might be
WoWWiki instead of the games. No way to know without checking, though :-)
That makes sense. If it was taken from the actual game, It'll be a
lot of trouble typing all of that in, but from the WoWWiki, it could
just be copy and pasted. I'll have to take a look at WoWWiki's lore
section to be certain.
Actually, quite a lot of it may have come from the official website:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/story/chapter1.html
