I like it. The only reason I never have pets is because they take up
bagspace unnecessarily. I predict players with pets by their side to be
much more common in the expansion :)
This would be sweet... my daughter is a pet-aholic with a bank full of
them...

I tend to carry one pet with me with several more in the bank. Not a
pet-aholic, but my kids like them. :)
This is good news from a mount perspective as well, though - I know it's
only 2 bag slots, but those 2 slots are apparently worth 35g when comparing
16 slot bags to 18 slot bags... Won't even bring Harris Pilton into it.

Not only is this going to be for non-combat pets, but it will also be
for mounts too.
I wonder how this is going to work with the 'gaurdian' pets, the ones
that usually have a set number of charges like the mechanical yeti.
Yeah, there's a thread about it here:

Fantastic change, I love the pets but can't have anything like as many
as I want because of the lack of bag space. Guess they kinda had to do
that since I think one of the new achievements involves the number of
pets you own ;-)
It will also be nice going back to not having to waste a bag space for
my flying mount. Got spoiled with my warlock having a summonable
mount. I'm sure other classes out there will be happy to free up 2
bag spaces.
I have even thrown out some vanity pets I got as quest rewards as I was
running out of bank space. I like this change a lot, I might get around to
have my vanity pets with me and out more often.

I personally think my idea is awesomesauce though :( Though, it'll never
happen.

Combined with vanish not taking a reagent in the expansion, that's gunna
save me another 5 bag slots. Bag space is gunna be much nicer for my rogue I
think.
ave
Yeah, same here. I'll gain 5 slots from not needing Flash Powder,
another from Thieves' Tools and another two from mounts. I also gain
one from the Miniwing vanity pet that I have (but never use).

Sounds like I need to go review release notes again - didn't see that one.
Very cool. Wonder if we can get rid of the bag-space sink of poisons,
next? It's not like 2g is a gold-sink for a rogue at 70... :)
-Brent
Definitely, and hey, I won't have my old mounts filling up bank space
because I don't want to get rid of them. In fact, I'd probably go out
and buy every mount available to me so I have a nice range of them :-)
What? You mean you don't have 20 mounts?
I still have my 60% flight speed wyvern, and my 280% flight speed
wyvern in the bank. I can't bring myself to part with them even
though I never use them.
And my poor felsteed, left all alone somewhere wherever summoned
demons stay while waiting to be summoned. I know the lore for the
felsteed indicates they originated in Desolace, but I've never once
seen on there. In fact, other than a warlock riding one, the only
other mobs I have seen on a felsteed are those 2 mobs in Bone Wastes
of Terokkar. They're not even warlocks riding those mounts, and if
the mounts originated in Desolace, a region of Kalimdor and a place
the orcs serving the Burning Legion had never visited prior to the
Dark Portal being close, how the hell did 2 orcs in Outland get their
hands on them? Its not like they could have killed a warlock and
taken the item that summons them, since they're a learned spell. And
there are no warlock trainers in Outland they could have tortured the
information out of (or is that the reason there are no warlock
trainers now?).
I make sure to kill those 2 whenever I am in the area, they don't
deserve those mounts.
I hope they will also create a special bag for q items, like some f2p
games i've played in this last months... sometimes (daily q) i find my
bag filled with a huge amount of garbage, usually only q items for the
dailies...
A BIG bag, free as the keyring, used ONLY for the [quest item] tagged
itms, would be nice!
>What? You mean you don't have 20 mounts?
Shockingly, no. :)
Regular and epic land mount, regular and epic flying mount. Actually,
maybe two regular land mounts - I think I've still got my raptor, even
though I replaced it with a wolf within 48 hours - didn't like the
bouncing.
I lack the patience to grind out rep just to get another one, and I don't
PuG much to have a shot at some of the instance drop mounts.
I do have a crapload of pets, though - maybe that will make up for it.
-Brent
Part of what I have done to give myself something to do in the game is
to grind whatever faction rep I could that didn't require an instance
run. I eventually got to the 5 horde factions and grinded all of them
to exalted. So, my BE warlock has his felsteed and dreadsteed, but no
hawkstrider. I hate hawkstriders. But he does have 1 swift raptor, 1
swift kodo, 1 swift wolf, and 1 swift skeletal horse. He also got the
swift brewfest ram last year. Then, I have my slow wyvern, my fast
wyvern, and my netherdrake. In all, 10 mounts, and I only ever use 2
of them. At least the 2 are already spells so they don't take up a
bag slot.
What I am not liking so much is that I read they plan on making riding
crops an enchantment you put on your mount. That means after the
expansion comes out, even though I have 10 mounts, I'm only going tog
et the speed boost on one of them at first. And I don't know if I
want to waste the time and gold to get a speed boost on all of them,
so even though they will become a spell I can cast, I probably still
won't use them all that much.
And has anyone seen the death knight mount? It kind of looks like the
Huntsman's mount or the Headless Horseman's mount. As in, it looks
like a felsteed with green flaming hooves and some armor.
>Part of what I have done to give myself something to do in the game is

I've been playing for just under a year - just hit my 2nd 70. I'm still at
the point where I'd prefer to level an alt than grind much of anything.
I've been working on primals for my frozen shadoweave; generally, I shoot
for 2 primal water and 1 primal fire on the Elemental Plateau, before
flying to Osh'gun for 1 primal shadow. That's about the limit of my
grinding patience.
I was all set for the next couple of weeks, until two friends with
Shadoweave Tailoring offered me their cooldowns - got some fast farming
ahead of me. Although one of them did throw in some fire/shadow, as well.
That's one aspect of the "gear gap" for lack of a better term - I've had
friends throw enchants on my gear using their banked mats, and now
primals. I appreciate it, of course, but it always makes me feel a bit
guilty - as a fairly recent 70, the odds of me being able to reciprocate in
any meaningful way are nearly nil. They've got all the gear and cash they
need.
-Brent
For me, I've never preferred leveling. I've always preferred playing
my main at max level, and doing things to make him better. Being
exalted with all 5 main factions doesn't help him a whole lot, cheaper
repairs and training is all I can think of. Getting exalted with
other factions is a little more worth the effort. Even if they don't
have anything I want now, who's to say that I won't swap tailoring for
some other profession down the road. Being exalted with other
factions means I have access to that factions rep stuff.
I wanted the 24-slot herb bag (before anyone even knew about the 28
slot herb bag) and spent a day or 2 grinding CC rep in Silithus in
order to get myself to revered. I didn't do the CC rep grind like
everyone else did pre-TBC because that character simply didn't exist
at the time. I was neutral with CC when I started. It wasn't hard to
get to revered, but it wasn't a lot of fun either. I got my bag
pattern, went hunting for a Black Lotus, and made myself the 24-slot
herb bag for my bank alt, only to find out a few weeks later there was
a bigger one on the way.
I also went back and did AD rep for the anti-venom. Its the only FA
recipe I didn't have (got lucky on a drop of the mid-level anti-venom
recipe while leveling in Ashenvale). Ended up having to go into
Scholo for the rep, as I had done most of the solo quests already.
But now, if I ever need a faction recipe from Sha'tar, Scryers, SSO,
Skyguard (if they even have any), Ogrila (again, if they have any),
Cenarion Expedition, Mag'har, Sporeggar, or Consortium, I am already
exalted with all of those. Thrallmar, Lower City, and Keepers of Time
I am revered with. Violet Eye I am only honored with. Exalted with
Netherwing, though they don't offer anything but the mounts. And of
course, Hated by Aldor since I got exalted with Scryers. If I'm
lucky, I could be exalted with Thrallmar before the expansion, but
getting groups for those instances doesn't happen often.
For me, I have the most fun at 70, and detest the leveling up
process. Which is why I only have 1 70. I have a 68 lock on another
server, but can't even get the motivation to go bump him up the last 2
levels. I have a 41 tauren druid that I want to get to 70, but
probably won't before WotLK.
And warlock has been the most fun for me. I've been trying out some
of the other classes. Been trying to get at least 1 of every class to
level 20. Working on the last 3 classes now. But warlock has been
the most fun for me. So when WotLK comes out, its going to be my
warlock that gets all the attention. I won't rush to 80, but I will
work on things that will benefit me at 80, such as a better approach
to getting faction rep such that I can much more easily get exalted
with the various factions. Even after my warlock hits 80, I'll
probably still focus on him, gearing him up as best I can. All my
poor alts will remain neglected.
>For me, I've never preferred leveling. I've always preferred playing
>my main at max level, and doing things to make him better.
That's one way WoW has impressed me - there are so many different ways to
play. My way, your way, playing the economy at the AH, world PvP, arena
PvP, Battleground PvP, crafting...
I'll admit crafting is probably the weakest option, but it's still there.
:)
I don't know a lot about PvP, but I'm assuming the scope/scale/strategy
shift between arenas & battlegrounds.

Wouldn't know about the mounts but warlocks surely originated in
Outland? Gul'dan etc, the original horde was the orcs who used a lot
of warlockish magic after they'd been turned evil by the demons (yeah
you can tell I'm hazy on the details ;-)) So bound to be plenty of
warlocks around who may well have got the idea of the mounts. Don't
forget some people returned from Azeroth to Outland - Zuluhed
certainly did (he was the one in charge of holding Alexstrasza captive
in Grim Batol, yet now he's in Shadowmoon Valley), so the knowledge
may have returned with them.

I really wouldn't worry about it. They know that you are a new 70 and
they know that it's very unlikely that you'll ever have more money
than them. They're obviously not short of gold and won't miss it.
I play in a group of 3 and one of us really struggles to get money.
Between us (the other two of the group), we've bought him 2 or 3 epic
land mounts and a flying mount. I've given him a meta gem that I had
spare and given him enchanting mats and other gems for his gear.
Now he's got a level 70 that he can do dailies with* and finances
himself but neither of us expect (or want) the money for what we've
bought or given him.
I'm sure that it's the same with your friends.
*His first level 70 was a Warrior and he *really* hated soloing with
that character and has even stopped playing him now.
steve.kaye
Been doing some of that, too. However, instead of going the last bit (about
6000 rep total between two of the alliance factions) on runecloth I'll just
wait to see if there are the odd alliance-faction quests in WotLK to get me
there automatically...

Same here. However, since hearing about mounts being converted into spells,
maybe there will be an inscription that does the same for all mounts that
the riding crop did for one of them?....

And is there an epic version that includes the dreadsteed's handle bars? :-)

I'm sure they absolutely don't mind - it's completely on my side. Just
more on principle, I suppose. :)
