The other day I was in Dal, and saw a request in /trade for a group
for Heroic Mana Tombs. I answered it; I have an old key-related quest
there. I get invited, to find my healer is grouped with a single dps.

I was slightly annoyed, but what the heck, I herbed while he filled
out the group with all 80s. I had actually been prepared to 2-man it;
for 2 geared 80s thats not hard. Eventually we get going, and one of
the dps puts up a vent server, which I and a couple others join.

We get to the second room, and dps start zerging everything - no
attention to what is being tanked, etc. There'd been some discussion
in the first room; some wanted the Lower City rep, and were insisting
on a full clear. Not too surprisingly, one of the dps goes down,
attacking mobs without the tank. Before I even rez him, he's talking
in vent about 'that asshole pally who didn't heal'.

I got pissed off. said in /p "Its not a good idea to insult other
players", hearthstoned out, and left the group. It's not like I *need*
the instance for anything but personal satisfaction.

Looking back, I was a bit hasty; I should have requested a retraction
and apology first. But I was annoyed; here I was, working with 5 where
2 could have handled the instance; he attacked mobs which were not
being tanked, and I couldn't keep up. Getting insulted in vent pushed
me over the edge, and I left, presumably dooming the rest of the
group.

What will make you leave a group?

I solo'd Mana tombs on my lvl 80 unholy DK so i'm not going to be
bothered by anyone in a low lvl instance. I just do my job. Some
people just get upset over nothing.

I did leave an instance when they kicked my healer buddy who by the
way is a crappy healer but a buddy.

If you were prepared to 2 man it i'd asked the other dude to leave the
party and re form a new party then run it.

Well I don't usually ditch a group but I did a few days ago

The Random dungeon sent us to Gundarak (or seomthing like that) ...
The tank was horrbile... Although having 50k hp in his bear form he
was horrible... I'm generally ok with chain pulling and rushing.. i
can keep up with my priest and rarely run into trouble. but this guy
will focus on one mob and the dps constantly over aggro the adds and
still he keeps on chainpulling so I basically heal the whole group
including myself. Then I ask for mana before the boss since I used a
lot of AOE to keep everyone alive but he charges right on the boss..
Used all my cooldowns and a mana pot to have enough through the boss
fight... The boss is down and put on raid alert to wait for mana 3
times but he then chain pulls another mob right after the boss and the
dps overaggroed and I got some aggro and died... It was a wipe...

As I mentioned... Chainpulling is all fine as long as he keeps all
aggro on himself, several times I cleared some instances with tank
chainpulling with 0 mana breaks.

So what I did... Put the tank on ignore list and leave the group,
won't waste my time and repair bill because an idiot with very good
gear is a very retarted tank.

If someone isn't willing to allow casters to set the pace for the
instance they shouldn't run with casters.

I go at my pace regardless. My drinking macro tells the group to
wait. I expect any group to consider that *an order* to wait, not a
humble request.

Ignore it once and wipe, it's your fault for not following orders.
That's how I see it. No matter what kind of group I'm in, I set the
pace, period.

Any sort of kicking without prior discussion will make me leave straight
away (especially if they kicked me :P).

I had a guildie who wanted me to tank BM for him for his Kara key. He
was an Elemental Shaman and we suggested that he was the best to take on
the adds. Well, he just started whining about how he'd die if he did
that and one of the others should do it. The other two DPS were both
Rogues and, whilst I have seen some handle the adds just fine, they
aren't best suited to the task. We tried it with each of them taking
the adds and failed. We came back to the idea of the Shaman taking the
adds and suddenly a Rogue left and was replaced with a Warlock. A quick
chat with the Rogue and it turns out that he was kicked so I told the
guildie off and then quit.

I've had another guy asking my healer to join a group and I said that I
was duoing with a friend and that I'd only join if there were two
spaces. He said that there were and invited me - the group was now full
with no space for my friend. He then kicked one of the other group
members and invited my friend. I said that that wasn't fair and then
quit after a short argument. One of the other guys (the tank I think)
whispered me asking to form a group and so we did - the group ended up
being everyone from the other group except the leader. :)

I feel sorry for other casters having to sit and drink. My mage very
seldom has to use evocate and my lock just lifetaps and that drives
healers crazy also. But yes they do need to give us time to mana up.
I have a macro with a yell on it that says OOM in caps several times.
like it spams 5 times. If they dont' see it and keep going that is
their problem.

Nah, it's completely acceptable to take a zero-tolerance policy where
you draw a harsh line at personal insults.
Someone called you an asshole, literally. End. No need to second
guess. It's your choice to be the kind of
person who tolerates that kind of abuse.

Well, I tank most Heroics with my girl sitting next to me and healing
me. I only ask her if she's ready for the next pull. If people want to
drink, that's fine, I can get a nice agro lead. We're preposterously
overgeared so we won't have a single problem on trash. If casters end up
low on the damage done charts, not my problem ;-)

Any rude answer to that, but an excuse would be either leave (depending

He could have easily been kicked out of the guild for it. Our GM
*hated* any kind of inconsiderate behaviour in groups whether they were
PuGs or guild runs.

Had I told the GM there would have been a good chance that he would have
been kicked out but I chose to give him a second chance and let him off
with a warning.

It seems that getting the Occulus as a random dungeon is enough to
make other players quit though :-). I got it as a random yesterday.
Within 5 seconds 2 of the party had left. 10 seconds later I was the
only one still in the group. Nobody said a word. I don't understand
why people hate that place so much!

It takes quite either direct insulting or extremely poor players
to make me quit. Although I did quite one random last week after
the group just skipped some trash to get to a later group, but someone
accidentally pulled the first group of casters on the way past, who
then decided the healer (i.e. me) should be the main target. Nobody
seemed to want to help me out, so i died, the group wiped, and (it'd
been a long hard day) I got so annoyed I just quit. In my experience
skipping trash to save time often doesn't.

I managed to put up with a snotty rogue calling my paladin "tank" (I
have a name, please use it) and questioning my abilities and I didn't
leave (he quit first, thank goodness). "Hey tank, what are you
doing?!", "You should use <some spell>, not <some other spell>, tank!"
etc. Ok, I'm not the worlds best tank, but some people are so rude.
Rephrasing as "Hey, I see you're using <spell> but it'd be better if
you use <other spell> instead because <reason>" would be much better.

I've only ever done it twice, once on normal and once on heroic. It
wasn't so bad, but then I didn't really have much idea of what was
going on and just tried to follow the others (on my drake) and heal
(when not on the drake) as best I could. If I had to lead I really
wouldn't know where to go.

The Occulus requires fighting on dragonback, using unfamiliar spells
and mechanics. Even a highly experienced 80 is going to suck at it the
first few times. All your practice and skill is for naught - its
basically a different game, not WOW.

The other heroics are much more known quantities. ToC does require
jousting, but that's a lot easier to learn.

In OC, the first few airborne fights with trash dragons is learnable
(though it takes a lot to get through other players heads that no, my
green *can't* heal other dragons until the final boss fight).

The final encounter is difficult; maintaining situational awareness in
a 3D environment is hard, and the fight is complex. In particular, my
healer has a lot of trouble healing the tank.

The Occulus is also a long instance, with a long corpse run if you
wipe, and the chances of multiple wipes in a PUG is high.

Abandoning the instance at the start results in a 15 minute ban from
random heroics, but after that you are likely to get into a much
easier and faster one.

I do this as frequently as I can; I'm farming Frost Badges, not trash
loot. It only becomes an issue when someone on a corpse run isn't
paying attention.

Fair enough. Even though I was the healer for the instance I was on
the dps drake. Didn't get to see the complexities of the last fight
from a healer/tank pov.

By the time the 'skipper' has finished telling people how to avoid the
trash group, and counting in accidental pulls, my experience is it's
just quicker to kill them and be done with it (I'm not talking about
groups which you can very obviously skip).

The ban also applies to queuing for BGs, as I found to my dismay the
other night when I found myself alone in a group with an apparently
badly-specced DK (badly specced for Tanking, anyway, according to one
members' comments before he and everyone else left the group).

Some names use signes I can't find on my keybord otherwise look like they
came out of a tool creating random ASCII strings. For those it's the first
characters of their name or 'tank', 'lock', 'dudu', 'cat' or something like
this.

I think it was "gernot almen" <n...@gmx.de> that wrote something
like...

I haven't seen any character that wasn't just a "normal" letter with
added dots or dashes by it. I just type their name as the normal
letter. Half the time that's what they meant anyway and they only
used the letter with the accents and such because the name spelt
properly was already taken.

It used to be a hard dongeon. It has been nerfed (maybe more than once, I
don't remember). Blizzard annouced (I read that today) that there will be
more reward in Occulus, so what you explained will be less likely to
happen.

Everyone will get a satchel with rare gems and two emblems of triumph, and
if you are lucky, a blue drak. This wille be for the random heroic only.

And Malygos will have a chance to give a drake in 10 people raid, too.

I was in a PUG last night in RFC where the Paladin and Druid went at each
other the entire dungeon. The group was not very good and the tank died
quite often. Probably because he kept insulting the healer. Normally I
would have left the group due to the poor performance and the constant
bickering and name calling. However, since I wasn't the target of the
abuse, I stayed and laughed outloud (literally) a few times when the Paladin
and Druid really got into name calling and deriding each others
capabilities. We eventually finished. It was a slow trip through the
dungeon, but it was one of the better times I have had lately. One of the
funniest barbs thrown was: Let the mage tank, he has more HP than you (and
the mage did).

She probably used Character Viewer, which lets you insert *any*

I learned a neat trick yesterday - if you want to do occulus effortlessly,
go with all amber drakes. You have so many timestops that if you don't blow
it and waste one, they can be up almost constantly. We did this in under 3

You can also click on Num Lock and then while typing in your name, for
example: Press Alt + use the numeric keypad to type in the letter's
extended ASCII number (like Alt + 131). Just search on the web for
extended ASCII and the numbers will be there (it will be the decimal
number).

That alone was enough to make me dislike Oculus.

I will stick through it if I get it on the random instance tool, by now it
has been nerfed so much that even a 3D-idiot like me can heal the boss fight
(I have no healing experience in normal wow), I will try tanking the next
time I get stuck there, for the achievment of doingit on all three drakes :)

There is an equivalent utility in Windows. It's in accessories in the

Long? I did it with a PuG as a random dungeon in just over 20 minutes, and
that included getting a replacement when one guy d/c'd

I wouldn't call that long.

Not a problem if you want to just use someone's name, as long as
they've already said something.

If you're typing in a new message, you can just shift-click on their
name link in the chat window and it will insert their name in the
input box where you're typing.

I never did it on heroic before the nerf, but my experience is that
it's in that sort of timeframe, probably about 30 mins for my group.

I have only ever left a group once, and that was because the dungeon
was clearly going nowhere. I got summoned as a replacement healer for
Oculus. I entered to a huge name-calling argument between the DK tank
and another DK. The DPS DK and the Ret Paladin were from the same
guild/server, and were doing . . . I don't know what.

The Ret Paladin would mount his drake, then aggro an Elite dragon,
then bring it back to the party. Or he would just die. Over and over.
No sooner would I rez him than I'd get the notification that he died
again. I think he was deliberately aggroing the Elite dragons. The
tank would pull groups with no one there but me. So I'd heal and heal.
The DPS all seemed to be mounted and flying . . . somewhere else in
the dungeon. At one point after one set of mobs, I looked up to see
the second DK DPS fall from his killed drake and die. He then left the
party. He hadn't said a single word. Before I left, the entire
instance consisted of the tank and I fighting trash while the DPS flew
around on their drakes.

Now, I don't leave because I don't want to wait around for
replacements, but there are several behaviors I dislike. Namely, as a
healer, not waiting for my mana, even when I've said in party chat,
"Need mana". Or starting a boss fight - or any fight for that matter -
when I'm three screens away. Then wondering why you died.

Interestingly, these and other rude behaviors I tend to see mainly
from Starcallers and Twilight Vanquishers. Not very scientific, I
know, but whenever I get a group and someone has this title, I tend to
inwardly groan.

My resto druid has very good mana efficiency and can keep up with such
chain pulling in most heroics. Makes it a little more interesting at
least. From what I hear and see, priests have more mana issues than
other healers?

My Paladin is Prot/Holy. When I heal Heroics, most of the time the
tank so severely out-gears the place s/he takes no damage. It's not
uncommon to have burned through a pack of trash mobs having cast one
or even zero heal(s).

I can't speak for other healers, but Paladins have the very powerful
Divine Plea that restores 25% of the Paladin's max mana over 12
seconds (but decreases healing done by 50%) on a one-min CD. Also, as
a Blood Elf, I can Arcane Torrent every two minutes.

Of course, for pure comedic value, I always have Seal of Wisdom active
(for the glyph), and if I'm really hurting for mana, I'll judge Wisdom
on a mob/boss (always have either Light or Wisdom judged), and whack
away for a few moments to get mana back. :D

A lot does indeed depend on how overgeared the tanks are. For example,
when my guilds main raid tanks do heroics, we usually don't even have
a healer in a run anymore. I'm just switching to my boomkin spec and
throw occasional hots when needed.

Depends a lot on gear level too, I guess. For a raid geared resto druid
it's actually almost impossible to get my mana to drop while healing
any tank that should be doing heroics. (ie. not in quest greens with
a sensible spec. :)

Then there's a whole different set of circumstances, and all other
considerations pale by comparison.
In an edge case like this, it's not an issue for me or my group
either.

There are heroics where mana conservation *is* the game. The best
case puts you right on the threshold of what's possible, so if you
push it, it's very easy to push it past the point of what's actually
possible for a group to sustain even if the casters play optimally
(and other classes also have considerations in the time domain.) It's
not always obvious where the error lies, because the consequences of
rushing things don't always manifest right away -- it's sometimes a
boss or two in the future where you'll wish you'd let me drink for
another 10 seconds instead of popping something with a CD.

But yeah, in situations where we're overgeared, it's generally for
welfare or farming. Are you "preposterously overgeared" for 10-man
ICC, or are there situations where you'll play conservatively and then
the rest?

Like I said, I wait for my girlfriend, the healer. If she's okay, we can
deal with it. The ICC-5 instances are harder than the other 5-mans, but
not really hard or anything. There is trash, for instance the trash
before the tunnel in PoS, that eats mana...

Bickering among the other party members. I play WoW for enjoyment, not
to watch other people squabble like children. I especially insist that
the tank and healer get along.

The other day I was in OK. The healer wanted to do Nerub; the tank
bypassed him. The healer said he would not heal if we did not do Nerub.
The tank started fighting with trash mobs without the healer. I bailed.

I really don't care if the tank or healer are slightly weak; I can
adjust my play style for that. But if some tank says I am not doing
enough dps when he can't hold aggro, I am likely to leave.

DPS pulling. Unless, maybe, a DK pulls a caster from an awkward place,
or something clearly helpful like that. But a warlock throwing a DOT
before I'm ready? I'm gone before it ticks.

Also, anyone who is top on DPS posting meters, they go straight on my

That's often claimed, but then the mobs all have the same stats they
ever had.

Blizzard added an extra bag of loot.

That's hardly a "nerf."

If you want to claim that a mob's stats or AI program changed, you
probably need evidence.

From the 3.3.0 patch notes:

* Azure Ring Guardians agro distance changed from 50 to 40 yards.

* Many bosses and creatures have had their total health reduced.

* Several bosses and creatures have had cooldowns on specific
abilities increased, effect durations reduced, and damage on some
of these abilities reduced.

* Ring-Lord Conjurers and Sorceresses now hang out in packs
of 4 instead of packs of 5.

* Vehicle scaling on the drakes based on the rider's item
level has been increased to make them more powerful.

Now, you were saying?
