An addon issue perhaps? Some change the linking process and if her's was
not updated that could be the cause. Has she tried moving her Interface
and WTF folders and starting WoW? I know I hate it when GMs constantly
try to blame addons for WoW's bugginess (even in cases where it's just
absurd), but in this case I think they just might be the issue.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
That is an add-on problem I would lay odds the guildy has some bank access
program or an older version of auctioneer

I was told she had problems earlier and had disabled all of them.
I so hate diagnosing these things blind, esp. over guild chat. It's a
really awkward way of figuring out what's wrong.
If all the add-on's are disable, and shift-clicking on a link is
acting as though they'd only left-clicked on the link, maybe they need
a new keyboard? They could try the other shift key. Or if it's some
funky keyboard that has it's own little programming running in the
back ground to make it do funky things, then it's possible that
*that's* causing the problem I guess.

Huh, I didn't consider a bad shift key, but only cause it would be so
noticeable in other computer use - to me anyway. I totally agree about
blindly supporting users online or over the phone - it can be very
problematic, especially if they're without the jargon to understand what
you're saying. I still miss some obvious solutions... heh.
Is she using a Mac?
Has she remapped any of her mouse buttons?
Has she tried linking other things, such as achievements or quests?

As it turns out, yes. What does that mean? Is item linking broken on Macs?
Not for me it isn't.

No, but as Mac mice often have just one button, the terms "left-click"
and "right-click" might need some local interpretation. I thought perhaps
that might be the issue.
mac users don't use the mouse that comes with the machine, they dump it in
a drawer and buy a multibutton mouse like everyone else. If you see a
mighty mouse attached to a computer, it's because either the normal mouse
is broken, or the computer is never used. *

LOL - that's somewhat true if you're a Mac geek. However I think many
Mighty and now Magic mouses are in use with less geeky users.
Myself - I use a Razer Deathadder with USB Overdrive on my main gaming
Mac, and MS Intellmouses with my older Macs.
The first thing I do with any new Mac is list the Apple mouse on an
auction site. Apple just can't seem to get the mouse quite right, at
least not since the days of all-in-one "9 screen Macs. The ADB mice were
not half bad back in the days before an extra button was useful. But
that's a long time ago.
