On a related note, "Avatar" was the name of the first MMORPG I ever played.
It ran on an early networked multiuser computer system called PLATO, which
had terminals in my grade school.

Sounds more like a precursor to a MUD than an MMO (though, honestly, the
only thing that really seperates one from the other is graphics. An MMORPG
is a MUD with graphics on.)

The MUD I spent all my time on back in the day is still running at
jedimud.com 4000, though I haven't actively *played* it in some time. Fun
to drop by from time to time and say hi to the die-hards, though. :)
