Just bought a XBOX recently and soon after I read online that
Microsoft may release XBOX 2 in 2005. If that's the case it doesn't
seem like there's much life left in it. If I had bought the basic
black version I would have already taken it back and waited for XBox
2. Since I bought the Halo edition I feel it could become a
collector's item down the road so I decided hold onto it.

How many must have "EXCLUSIVE" game's are going to come out for it in
the next year? I can think of Fable, Halo 2 and Jade Empire.
Anymore?

If you like racing games, RalliSport Challenge 2 is AWESOME! Also, try
wolfenstein. I know, I know, it's not really an exclusive game, I have it
on the PC as well, but there are about 5 extra missions on the Xbox, and
Wolf on Xbox Live is quite good.

Sam,

Just because XBOX2 comes out won't stop your XBox from working...

Look at the PS/PS2 situation, you can still buy games for the PSOne, and
they're really cheap!

OK, so I know that the gamebase for the XBox is much smaller then the PSOne,
but I'm sure you will be able to buy XBOX games for quite some time after
XB2 is launched and even if they stop writing any new ones, there are
already enough good existing XBox games to keep you busy for some time yet!

Anyway, with technology products these days, there's little point in waiting
for 'the next great thing'. Whatever you buy and whenever you buy it, you
can bet your bottom doller that somthing better will be announced within a
year or two. (or should that be a month or two with some things!)

Just enjoy your XBox, then when XB2 is launched, buy one of those as well
end you can enjoy both (Until XBox3 is announced a few years later).

Well there is KOTOR2 and Doom 3, there coming out on the PC too, but the
only console there available on is the Xbox.

Plus Half-Life 2 is in the same boat.

Wether you bought your X-Box one day one, or yesterday, the games are the
same. Just because everyone else wants to pay twice what you did to have it
immedietly doesn't make the games any different.

The X-Box has an installed base of millions. The X-Box 2 MAY come out next
year, but I have a feeling it will be more like two. Add to that the fact
that people will still be playing X-Box for a couple years after the new one
is out and the current X-Box still has a very good life left in it.

Keep in mind by waiting till the latter portion of a console's life cycle
you'll safe major $$$ on the console and the games.

In terms of new games. I would expect new games to come out for up to
a year after the Xbox 2 release, mostly becuase development cycles are
quite long. In terms of quality games for the Xbox I wouldn't be
supprised if they dry up 6 months after the Xbox 2 release. Then again
its one of those things of supply and demand. If the sales for Xbox
games are still good after a year they will carry on producing games.

If Sony believes there machine is useful until 2010, then the Xbox should be
about the same. in the end it all comes down to the games that are
produced.

You are still a couple years away from Xbox 2. The system is cheap now and
you have a library of 100's of games. Plus you now also have the option to
play many online. Usually the games that come out towards the end of the
sytem's life are the best. The games get better and better.

2010??? You mean the year we make contact and then some? Wow, now that would
be intersting to see. Of course the PS1 has quite a huge library and heck
they even still manufacture the dang thing!

If you're willing to just wait 2 years for Xbox 2, you're not really a gamer
and should just give up all together.

What are you going to do when you decide to buy an Xbox 2? Just wait for
Xbox 3?

Why do you think Xbox 1 would quit working when Xbox 2 is released?

Since the Xenon is not backwards compatible, that should actually
extend the life of the xbox. When the next gen is released, the price
of the xbox will probably drop to $99... There will be millions of
xboxes out there, and only a handful of xenons. So, if you were a
greedy developer, which console would you develop for?

Will the Xbox 2 come with a built-in EMP transmitter to disable the
old Xbox people already own??

If anything, you'll have available a full library of cheap games.

Probably won't see an X-Box 2 until the end of 2006.

Which mean, I won't be buying one until at least 2008.

Thats close to four years, which is plenty of life.

More then enough life to carry it out until the new system (XBox 2 / XBox
Next) is released.
The PS1 was out for 5 yrs before the PS2 was released but they are "STILL"
making games for the PS1!
The XBox is only 3 years old. The new XBox should be released within the
next 1 or 2.
