Anybody picking this up today? I first heard about this game probably
six months ago and was interested due to the creative direction from
Joe Madureia. But I remember going to website and just seeing alot of
"Coming soon" so I forgot about it for awhile. Now its upon us and
appears to be getting solid critic reviews (8s and 9s) and is
described as a cross between Zelda and DMC. I love Madureia's art
style but I'm still a little leary of the gameplay until some player
reviews roll in.

I've been considering getting this or Bayonetta, using some credit
I've got, and trading in Mercenaries 2, which doesn't work if I'm
online anymore. Thanks, EA, for screwing that up........

I picked up Darksiders Thursday. Fun hack and slash adventure game,
reminds me of Soul Reaver. Lots of moves, weapons, power unlocks as
you progress through the game. Excellent voice acting, story has an
epic feel, but is pretty typical. I love the art style, but I'm a big
fan of the creative director's work in comic books. I like the
options for camera direction. You can either focus on an enemy and
rotate through them or you can focus on an arbitrary location of your
own chosing. Of course there's the behind the back camera too.
Starts out being a bunch of button mashing, but as you go through the
game and face monsters that block and dodge your attacks, you have to
adapt. Fairly easy game tho, i'm playing on Apocalyptic and its not
hard. There are simple puzzles of moving statues around to unlock
doors and stuff. The environments are filled with stuff to destroy or
pick up and throw or use as weapons. No load times and the areas are
usually very large and open so you can explore and find secret stuff.

Its probably a high 8 game, but is getting knocked for not being
innovative enough.

Yeah I got Mercs2 in the bargain bin at Blockbuster for $5 , was
excited until I get home and it freezes at the "connecting to servers"
screen.

I thought maybe I had a bad copy since it was used.

But I thought let me check online first because the disc was flawless
no scratches . After a search I find 1,000's of responses "freezed at
server screen".

I was told the only way to play Mercs is to unplug your ethernet , and
sure enough I can play the game fine offline with my ethernet
unplugged.

I guess there goes all the online achievements, oh well .

Really kinda sucks though.

The game really doesn't feel as evolutionary as the 1st one played.

There have been numerous posts about this on the EA forums, up through
this month. I ended up trading Mercs 2 in and getting Darksiders.
Luckily, there was an "extra 25% for tradeins towards Darksiders"
thing at Gamestop. Mercs 2 really let me down. I like the first
Mercenaries, but Mercenaries 2........between suicidal pedestrians
that actually dive _toward_ your car (costing you money), and the
counterintuitive "you must buy specific strike packages/vehicle drops
from certain people first and call them in in a separate step"
mechanism, I simply got annoyed with the game. Just Cause 2 is out in
a couple months, and that should give me what I'm looking for (calling
in airstrikes isn't in that game, but truth is, that's something I can
live without if need be). I guess EA's actions (or inactions) in
responding to this problem were the last straw for me.

I picked it up. While I'm not "feeling" it yet, it seems like a good
"B-level" game, like Red Faction: Guerilla. You don't necessarily get
hyped up about it, but when you play it, you're entertained, and not
disappointed. And isn't that all you can ask for sometimes?

Yea I had that feeling too, because early on your just smashing B all
the time. It gets better once you unlock more moves and weapons.
