The song list on GHIII is FAR superior to I or II. I have I on the PS2
and it was a good introduction, but they dropped the ball with II by
selecting (IMHO) some of the crappier songs they could have. III
changes that. I won't bore you with the track list, they're everywhere
online. I have to wonder how much money they spent licensing these
tunes.
As before, the songs you buy from the store are more or less
forgettable, but I was able to buy all of them by the time I finished
level 6.
Of the levels I've seen so far, they're all pretty cool. I'm currently
stuck on level 7 until I get through Cult of Personality. I've been
pretty happy with the song selections on level 1-6, but 7 pretty much
sucks. The only one I'd listen to on my own is CoP and that's the one
you get last to go on to level 8.
Oh yeah, Best Buy has a coupon deal where you buy GHIII and you get
$10 off another game or accessory. They're also giving away a Sex
Pistols faceplate for the guitar with purchase ($15 on their own.) So
I guess that's not such a bad deal. I got God Of War II for $29.99.
Probably the last PS2 thing I buy unless the GH: 80s pack gets
"Greatest Hits".

That was the one big disappointment for me. GH2 had a lot of
memorable stuff like Bang Camaro, Freezepop, FTK, Gemini, etc. for
unlockable songs. On this one, I love the In Flames track and not
much else. I'm a fan of Lacuna Coil, but I don't much care for the
track of theirs they used.
I don't know, man... that Social Distortion song sucks ass. What is it...
STORY OF MY LIFE or some shit like that? Talk about droning. Horrid.
I'd like to see the 80's Guitar Hero tracks come out as downloadables for
GH3 on 360.
> What is it...
>STORY OF MY LIFE or some shit like that? Talk about droning. Horrid.
I agree there. Reminded me of that horrible Party of Five song.
I-IV-V chord over and over.
I just played GH3 for the first time. Played the first set on Hard.
I love the feel of the controller so much that I'm going to sell my
PS2 GH2 bundle, and buy GH2 for the 360.
Ok now they need to start paying me or something .
thousands and thousands of blues songs have that same chord progression
Yeah, but that doesn't make it any better for this song. It BLOWS.
Legends of Rock? Where's AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy (not Sabbath),
Megadeth, Y&T, Frampton, Montrose, W.A.S.P., Satriani, Vai, Ratt, etc.??????
Come on now, even the most jaded would have to admit... those are more
legendary than a lot of the bands on GH III.
Yeah, but it's still gonna be fun. I never heard of Monkeywrench
before GH2, but it's one of my favorite songs in the game. I can play
it without looking at the screen. :-)
IGN also was disappointed it was a "white boy" soundtrack (no Jimi
Hendrix, no Prince...)
Oooohh...the solo at the end of "Let's Go Crazy."
Oh, well...maybe for Rock Band!
Yeah, and what makes that worse is that Hendrix' likeness is actually IN the
game. What's up with some PURPLE HAZE?
I still say they're missing the boat without a little Y&T Mean Streak or
Black Tiger... or maybe even Forever in there.
Real rock. No filler.
The game is about adrenalin.
There were a couple of other songs that made me fall asleep and piss
myself, and I'm only half way throug.
You want adrenalin, go to a music store buy a used 6 string , used
Marshall ,learn a couple barr chords ,buy a distortion pedal, now welcome
to bliss.
I second this.
> I'm pretty unhappy with the song list so far.
> So many rockin Stones songs, and they choose Paint It Black!?!??!
> I went into a coma playing it. I didn't know this was "Sitar Hero."
I'd pick Paint it Black over just about anything else by the Stones.
I'm kind of surprised they didn't do Sympathy For the Devil for the
final level, Paint it Black is a good choice.

yea, it's great, but it's not like you can play anything more significant
than "Smoke on the Water" anytime soon.
For the main riff in that song traditionally you don't use barr chords ,
you just strum to 2 middle strings open the same 2 strings 3rd fret ,the
same 2 strings 5th fret then same 2 strings 6th fret. The riff goes
(open-3rd-5th) then (open-3rd-6th-5th)then (open-3rd-5th-3rd-open). I've
seen Ritchie Blackmore play that way in concert video footage. It was
the way I learned as a kid too. It has a distinctive sound closer to
original than using the barr chord structure.
Once you learn a few barr chords ,though, you can play about 90% of
Metallica's basic riffs and Black Sabbath,Megadeth,Iron Maiden, Nirvana,
I could go on for days, the list is LONG
Well first, barre chords are hard (takes a long time to even build up the
finger tolerance to play them), but second..even knowing them doesn't help
if you can't change them in rhythm, which takes months...if not years of
practice.
