Even on the DSi XL (or whatever it's called), I think I'd get eye strain from trying to read an entire book. Either that or the font size would be so large I'd be constantly scrolling left/right all the time.

I don't think it's intended for e-books. It's intended to be able to transmit small games wirelessly, anywhere, anytime. Sort of an answer the convience of buying games on Iphone, just without the $100/month contract. Kindle's business model is a little different. Books and newspapers aren't that large in size, so you're not transmitting much data, but there is a large markup between the paper version and an electronic version. Which probably offsets the free 3G costs.

According to the article Jonah posted, customers would have to pay a lot extra for the hardware to offset those 3G costs...

Doesn't the DSi already have an online store ala iPhone App Store? It just lacks the 3G hardware which I would assume you could conceivably cram into a dongle that plugs into the DSi's existing memory card slot.
Or does the DSi support tethering so it could use your pre-existing 3G handset?
