I'm going to write my review and post it later today.

Did you play the PC or 360 version (or the PS3 for that matter)?
So...the game's only 20-25 hours long or something?

It's not broken. It's...advanced.
360. I rented it. I may buy it.
Jesus Christ. You're already done? Didn't this game come out just a
week ago?

How about just 3 days ago.

Yeah, Tuesday.
Keep in mind, I've been playing AC2 a ton the past few days to get a review
in ASAP. I did 15-18 hours to get through the campaign. There's still more
to do after you finish the main storyline.
"Only"? Nowadays, 20-25 hours for an action game is considered
pretty good. So far, from what I've played, this is a pretty nice
improvement over the original, which had great atmosphere, great
control and combat mechanics, but a very poorly thought out game
structure. This flows better as a "proper" game, and the fluidity is
improved over the prior game (except for the same tendency for your
character to wall jump off to the opposited direction when you really
were just trying to jump while climbing!).
Pot, kettle, black. And at least I have a sex life.

Sounds like a real job to me.
I don't have a vagina like you.

I didn't think he'd ever had the chance to find out. :-)

Well in a sense he does, he likes "stick pussy".
I've heard many great things about the game. The only problem is I
don't want to play it until I've beaten the first one and it's REALLY
difficult to find motivation to even get to my first assassination
mission. :-\
I figured that had to be the reason why you completed the game so
quickly. I read a commentary once about the legitimacy of reviews,
though, with reviewers no longer getting advanced copies of games so
they end up having to play the game as quickly as possible just to get
a review in (instead of taking the time to really go through the game
for a better perspective).
Well, if you really want to blow through the first one, all you have
to do are about 3 "lead-up" tasks per assassination before you can
trigger the assassination, and there's 9 assassinations before the
"endgame" sequence. Collecting things isn't necessary to get new
abilities- you get them back at your fortress after you assassinate a
target. The world is tempting to run around in (it looks pretty
convincing), and the basic mechanics for combat are pretty cool, in a
sort of very deliberate, "fencing" sense of combat. The problem,
again, is that you feel a real sense of lost opportunity, because
there's so little to do in this really well-presented game world,
other than cool acrobatics, and getting into random fights. If worst
comes to worst, either buy a used copy of AC1 and blow through it, or
youtube the cinematics from the first one, if you want to get up to
speed for AC2.
I have the game. It's been collecting dust for about a year and a
half. I suppose I could just run through the game quickly. I spent way
too much time exploring and then getting bored after I finished doing
that...
I was in a similar situation- I did a number of the assassination
missions for the first couple of months I had it, along with
exploring, and then sort of dropped it, picking it up again once in a
blue moon. I decided recently that AC 2 looks cool, so I decided to
finish the last bit of the game so that I wouldn't be missing anything
if I started AC 2. Finished it the night I got AC2, and started the
new one right afterwards.
I think the fact that by the nature of the setting, the fact that
there's not as much different types of gameplay available makes the
Assassins Creed games harder to play for extended periods of of time
than "modern" setting sandbox games. But they do have a unique charm
to them, like the great-great-grandchild of the old Mindscape
Cinemaware games from the 1980s, or similar old-school, quirky action
titles. They certainly ain't as commonplace as FPS games or GTA
clones, that's for sure.
