I think that demonstrates that clearly the Playstation3 had the best
software line-up of 2009. You could play almost every winning 360
game on the PS3, as well as PS3 exclusives that were BETTER than all
of those multi-plats.
Bravo Sony. And 2010 is looking even more promising...

You think the 360 had better games in 2009 then?

That's a great example.
Awesome visuals, horrible controls and a totally "unfun" game because of it.
Put in lots of f-bombs, they have to nominate it...it's M-Rated art.
Like a beauty contest...who cares. It doesn't mean anything.

Thanks for the meaningless post, then. Some of us enjoy debating the
quality of software for the competing consoles.

The developers who design the games and the companies who market and
sell them would disagree with you.
And the bottom line is what keeps titles coming.
That's why the Playstation lost its most successful exclusive titles
over the last couple of years.
If it wasn't for Sony footing the bill, Uncharted 2 would have been a
multi-platform release.

Funny how 360 versions are most always rated higher for look,
framerate and play than their PS3 counterparts.
Yet the highest rated games this year belong to the PS3. You can't
battle so-called trolling with lame generalities.
What good is a highest rated game if no one is playing it?
Anyone who says this was a surprise is either lying or is the ultimate
fanboy who has never seen or heard a single thing about any game that
didn't come out for the Xbox 360...

This actually makes a whole lot of logical sense when you think about
it.
a) Even now, the PlayStation 3 versions of most multiplatform games
are notably inferior to the Xbox 360 versions.
b) How many Xbox 360 exclusives even came out this year? Now take out
all the crappy ones that nobody gave a shit about.

> PS3.
I'm actually surprised at that last one just because everyone's been
so damn hyped up about Modern Warfare 2. Most don't take the time to
listen to the people who are complaining about the multiplayer issues,
the short duration of the campaign, etc.

I don't think it really does demonstrate that once you account for the
fairly straightforward observations listed above. However, one doesn't
really need to demonstrate this... it's quite obvious that the
PlayStation 3 had the better software line-up this year.
Bill is most definitely a PlayStation 3 fanboy and is obviously trying
to pat his console on the back, but that doesn't mean that what he
said wasn't valid or meaningful just like all the gushing praise
showered on the Xbox 360 the three years before this one were
deserved.
*SOMEONE'S* going to post the results of the IGN Awards at some point
and it's generally pointless to post something without giving some
sort of opinion or analysis. While what he posted may just feed into
his personal bias, nothing Bill said was actually overly fanboyish as
it really was just the logical, obvious conclusion.
Don't forget that it has better graphics, a more intense "war-like"
experience, and a superior multiplayer mode... at least from what I've
heard from people who have played both games.
I suppose there's something to be said for what a particular person
defines as "the best." However, generally speaking, when someone says
"the best," they're talking about the quality rather than the
profitability (in which case they would say "the most profitable" or
"the hottest").
> And the bottom line is what keeps titles coming.
No argument there. However, you have to consider that with the install
base of the PlayStation 3 growing in North America and a solid line-up
of games for the platform through all of 2010, things are only getting
better for Sony's chunky black box which means that developers are
likely going to be convinced by consumer behavior to "keep titles
coming."
> That's why the Playstation lost its most successful exclusive titles

When the situation wasn't so bright and sunshiny for Sony. Hardware
sales are up. Exclusive titles, first party or not, are coming out
which will drive more customers to the brand. Things really can only
look up for Sony, no?
> If it wasn't for Sony footing the bill, Uncharted 2 would have been a
> multi-platform release.
Not necessarily. If it wasn't for Sony, there'd be no Uncharted or
Uncharted 2 at all. It's *their* game, after all. Would someone have
even come up with the concept or tried this game if they weren't a
first party developer who had very early access to the hardware and
direct collaboration with the people who designed it?

A valid point which is why I disagreed with Bill's assessment that the
awards "demonstrated" that Sony had the better line-up (anyone with
good taste didn't need the awards to demonstrate that fact at all).
It's good for establishing a foundation of games and a level of
expectation of quality for upcoming titles. People who see that high-
quality games are being produced for the system are more likely to
consider it for their gaming purposes.
People who care about the quality of the games instead of just playing
based on sometimes unwarranted hype, that is.
That is your own opinion.
that's what I was going to say.
:O)
Thanks!
Actually, it's not my opinion at all since I haven't been able to play
a PlayStation 3 game since the first quarter of the year. I'm simply
noting what pretty much all of the websites have said about almost
every multiplatform game that came out this year.
The one time I heard that the PlayStation 3 had the edge was with
Modern Warfare 2 and even then it was only a slight edge. 99% of the
time, the screenshots show the Xbox 360 being at least slightly
better, graphics-wise, than the PlayStation 3 version.
In most cases, it has to do with the sharpness of the graphics (PS3
versions tend to be softer) and the color saturation (PS3 versions
tend to be paler, more dull). This is as recent as Assassin's Creed
II, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and Bayonetta (especially the latter
where the differences in quality are more noticeable).
This is ignoring, of course, the frame rate issues that tend to plague
PS3 versions of cross-platform games.
Now, this isn't meant as a knock on the PlayStation 3. Regardless of
how the graphics compare with the Xbox 360 versions, the PlayStation 3
versions of all of these games look and play essentially as good. Most
gamers aren't going to know that there's a difference anyway since the
majority aren't cross platform gamers.
This was meant as a path of reasoning for why it's not surprising that
PlayStation 3 exclusives would rate higher than PlayStation 3 versions
of cross-platform games - the exclusives were developed to
specifically take advantage of the hardware. In fact, the big
exclusive titles were done by first (Uncharted 2) or second (InFamous)
party developers who are much further along with their PS3 development
skills than most third party developers.
