Has it occurred to you that we might already be aware of the PS2's current
state? That we understand and fully appreciate that the launch titles don't
manifest everything the system is capable of? That we're sufficiently
impressed with the launch offerings and the games in the pipe that we're
willing to enjoy them while we wait to see what developers with a little
time and experience in the platform can come up with?
We don't want to be "saved". We like what we see so far, we have a good
history with Sony and the Playstation, and we have faith that they will
continue to be able to deliver the kind of entertainment with the PS2 that
earned our initial respect with the Playstation.
We don't care that the PS2 won't cure cancer, bring world peace, or let the
cat out at 3am. We know it's not perfect and we're not expecting the second
coming here. If you were expecting a revolution and find you're disappointed
in what Sony delivered, perhaps you might place a little less stock in the
hype that you seem to think we're all so swayed by. You might keep this in
mind as the X-Box approaches launch as well. Many of us may be buying
X-Boxes eventually, and we don't need another round of console bashing if it
doesn't live up to your vaunted expectations.
Where's the threat here? Why are you so adamant? What, precisely, do you
expect to accomplish other than earning the ire of the whole newsgroup? Is
it as simple as that? All I can guess is that you want some attention and
the only way you know how to get it is by stirring some shit. I mean, that's
fine if that's all you know. It's easy enough to disregard you. What I find
strange is that about one out of fifty of your posts actually displays
balance, insight, and presents a cogent point. So we know you're capable of
rational discussion without having to resort to rhetoric and propaganda. You
just seem more interested in ruffling feathers than in making a valid
argument.
Anyway, I can't imagine why I'm wasting my time on this and I fully expect
either a trite, smug, two line response or none at all. I suppose that I,
like so many others in here, just don't understand what you're getting out
of your anti-PS2 campaign. You're posting to a group that's already
interested in the PS2 and you aren't going to change any minds here. I
suppose it's enough for you that you make a few waves, but you're dreaming
if you think you're going to have any impact on the success of the PS2's
launch. The fans don't care and you can't fight the tide.
-end-
I participate in this newsgroup for various reasons. Sometimes I'm
seriously looking for information on games because believe it or not,
I'll probably get an Xbox, especially if the March games look good.
Sometimes I like to act childish and bug people. Other times I just
enjoy debating people like Swammi or Mark because I sincerely believe in
issues.
I have to admit, I do go overboard sometimes. Yesterday was a prime
example. But I was feeding off some of the stupid, homophobic comments
from sony fanboys. You know I'm not usually like that. I have my bad
days and good days. I do kind of regret going overboard yesterday
because I've read some comments from new people who were upset by what's
going on in this newsgroup. I kinda remember how I felt the first time
I got blistered in the nintendo newsgroup by Omarichu. I was shocked.
And I didn't appreciate it.
Another thing that I forget and others do as well is that kids are
reading these newsgroups too. They don't need to hear a lot of the
stuff going on here.
I'm not really having any fun participating here recently. People are
attacking me left and right, some of it deserved I suppose, and now you
and swammi want to attack me on a person level that I think goes way out
of bounds. I think I'm probably going to take a hiatus. Maybe things
will cool down. Maybe the Xbox newsgroup will get some traffic.
You guys can celebrate. I'm outta here.
I'm a fan that cares about anti-hype. Tee's been just about the only
sensible person that's presented anything about the PS2 that's made me
think twice about what I bought. I g'd' appreciate that, by the way.

It's all about extremes, and he's been right at the opposite end of it.
That's what people have had a problem with. THere are fanboys that are so
tunnel visioned that their entire online lives revolve around slagging each
system but their own, jellously guarding what they believe to be true.
However, when it comes to the crunch, it's no different to the kind of
rivalry that you see in the schoolyard.
Adults or teenagers alike, it's commonplace on newsgroups, and because of
the anonimyty it can lend itself to some pretty heated debates that you
just know wont happen in real life.
Teemoney has proven he can be an intelligant debater, but he too often has
relied on bringing himself down to a level that can only be described as
troll like. Whatever his excuses are, I think that it's time to give it a
rest (for all of us). The guys sorry, so lets leave it at that.

Nice heads up... as a father I'm always thinking along
those lines...

If you need a hiatus or sabbatical then by all means take
it. Things have been hot lately (post-holiday musings)
but don't let the detractors and naysayers win.
Peace, Lawrence.

i believe in stating facts; while that may seem like playing devil's
advocate at times, it's healthy--it boosts consumer interest and encourages
a person to back/strengthen their choice. i think because of a little
opposition, many here have come to appreciate their ps2s more.
however, i also believe that stating facts is not synonymous to converting.
just like in religion, enlightening: good; converting: bad. besides, the
systems and games sell themselves--we can only preach about what it
definitely has to offer to everyone, not what it's offered to you and
"should" to others. where's the gain?
happy gaming! :)

please.
here's my definition:
fanboy [noun]: 1) A male child(-like) fan of some person, team, object,
or idea.
2) One who degrades or disrepects everything else
pertaining to the same matter of which the person is a fan of.
3) One who focuses on one thing, doesn't do any
research into what the competition is capable of, and therefore thinks the
thing is the best, as (according to the person) thinks the object s/he is
rooting for sets the standards.
