can anyone give me a tip how to deal with the SMTP-Auth at Autotroll?
As my ISP is requesting SMTP-Auth, I don't know what to do to get the
failure fixed.
Any help would be welcomed.
Thanks in advance
UG
thanks for the quick answer!
I will give it a try and then report again.
Regards, UG

You may also try "Office Mail 2.0" at http://www.burrotech.com/om/
It acts as a shim between AT and your provider.

Let me know if you want some help with om2.0 or if you got the auth
issue resolved through another method.
thanks to all for helping first. I really apreciate the offer for help with
om 2.0, as I don't get it going.
Here are some additional informations:
My System:
1) Vista 64 bit, running a firewall and virusprogramm
2) For Autotroll I have XP (SP3) running, installed on a SUN virtual
machine. Windows firewall, virusprogramm
Both systems run fine, except smtp:
I tried the following programms for smtp:
Hamster: I don't understand how to use this with all it's scripts and
variables and a help with full of programming code ;-)
Smthauth 1.04 and 2.01: Not possible to send mail. 1.04 sends a failure
message every time , with 2.01 I get the same problem as discribed in the
next step with om.
Freesmtp: Absolutely nothing happened
om 2.0: This is the one I like most and which I would prefer (as my main
target is still to get AT running, no matter what smtp I have to use).
1. I did connect AT to officemail, no problem.
2. I'm able to recieve mail ISP -> om -> AT (POP), no problem, also
recieving mail directly POP -> AT works fine.
3. I'm able to send mail from AT to om, but then the problem begins.
4. At om the outgoing mails stuck. That status line says "SMTP connected"
but the mail are not sent. As I have different mail accounts I tried
different smtp-adresses, but none worked. So the problems can't be my ISP,
must be sth. at my end of the pipe (exspecially because others do get om
running).
I have the following ideas:
None :-(
Maybe a conflict with the firewall of my host. I deactivated the windows
firewall on my vm, but this had no influence to the stuck mails.
I'm able to send mails on my vm by using Outlook express, absolutely no
problem.
I'm not that confirm with networks and server architecture, so I'm stuck in
the mud at the moment :-(
Greetings Matthias

I have a new info.
I tried the smtp server of the last mail account that I had not tested yet.
Recieving and sending mails went without problem. Changed to the smtp adress
of my ISP (it is a test account, no contract signed yet) - no mail sending.
How do I have to interpret this?

When using the smtp adress of t-online (my DSL provider) it works fast and
without problems.
Trying yahoo or all-inkl.de (the ISP I have my test account) the outgoing
mails stuck, no matter what prot I use.
Could it be, some smtp-servers do not accept "foreign" auth at all?
Thanks & Regards, Matthias

officemail is working in combination with AT ;-)
Thanks! for your help.
The problem was: om got a separate Auth-ID option field, which I filled with
ID and password. But there's also a field called "Always use mail from". This
special field has to be filled with the mailadress you want to register to
the smtp-server with.
This I didn't know and found out only by trying. I believe this is also the
reason, why the programm smtp-auth didn't work. False mail identification to
the server.
