After a pause of more as 2 years, it's time to play a planets game.
We have set up an Game, in wich the player are able to configure the
race the want to play in a wide range.
Like playing with the assimilate race bonus of the Borg while having
the Hiss mission of the Lizards, the ability to build fighters in
space, and a shiplist with MBR, Dark Wing and Gorbie for example.
Have a look at the racebuilder page http://haha.spacequadrat.de/rh/racebuilder.html
Want to join, the game gets discussed and hosted at http://www.rcworld.de
Regards, Harry
Looks very interesting. Is this a PHOST game or a TimHost game? And what
shiplist is being used?
CC
I'd be interested in following along, or at least seeing what races
players built!
it's still 1 slot left
So how does that work then? Does PHost approximate to THost combat? I've
only ever played PHost with the PList shiplists, and I guess the balance
would change quite a bit with the original THost ships, since they're
limited to 10 beams/bays/tubes and all.
I think I'll give it a try - I'm a bit rusty but it looks too interesting to
miss.

Hmmm. Well, I followed the link given in the first post of this thread, and
I designed my race (there was a problem with the addition for "column B" but
I spent only 8 points in the end). I entered my email address and clicked
Send and it went to a confirmation screen showing me the various pconfig /
truehull / hullfunc settings for my custom race. They all looked ok so I
just clicked "OK, that's my race!" and it sent me to the hosting hompeage
(http://haha.spacequadrat.de/rh/index.html). I haven't received an email to
the gmail address I used to sign up, and there's no sign of the game on the
site (there's a link to the racebuilder setup page, but no reference to the
game either as currently running or awaiting players).
So anyway, I hope I've managed to join and I'll hear from you soon.
CC
I thought so. Perhaps the OP meant TList rather than THost (original)
shiplist?
It doesn't look like I managed to join the game - still no email in response
to my race submission.
Heiko, while you're there - about two years ago I got halfway through
updating your "pscripts" auto-hosting package for Linux hosting (adding
quickhost functionality etc.), but I never sent it to you. If you've made
any changes in the past couple of years, can you point me to the latest
version, so that when I do send you my changes, they'll be against your
newest version!
CC
Although I run phost.de, I do not maintain the PScripts. I would have
expected them on phost-contrib.sourceforge.net (admittedly after
sweeping away lots of cobwebs. note to self: release new PDK.) or at the
Vagabond.
If you want them on phost.de, we can probably arrange a way, but on the
other hand it's probably not too bad if not everything PHost-related has
to run through me :-)

It's not relevant if the ships are PList, TList, TList XY, build from
scratch or somewhat else, because any player has (can have) the same
ships and the only battleships are Virgo, DarkWing and Gorbie.

The racebuilder page at this location was only for showing the players
what she can do to tweak his race. The final race creation gets done
after all players are found (we are 11 now, sorry) and our host has
the time to setup the game.

Ops, thats only a old copy of a dead test page. :) As written in the
first post, the game gets discussed and hosted at http://www.rcworld.de

Sorry.. I've not looked here since we had found the last player. But I
plan to create another racebuilder game with PList ships and
experience enabled. If so, it gets discussed at the http://www.rcworld.de
forum and i drop a note here.
sorry for the confusion ;-)

Sorry, but your No. makes no sense for me.

Well, slightly modified, but why does this list works and the other
does not?
Regards, Harry
Right, Tim's list with alternative combat would not work. But with
non-alternative combat, and correct settings, why not? With this config,
it has the same formulas as Tim's host. So I wouldn't expect a PHost
game with Tim's list to be worse than a THost game with Tim's list. I
doubt that Tim's list was designed with all the goofs of THost's VCR
algorithm in mind (i.e. biased random numbers, damaged-lizard-planets-
get-beam-upgrade bug, ...). Actually, I doubt it has seen any large-
scale simulating at all before its release, as fast simulators did not
exist in 1993 (sim.exe? You're kidding.).
> To make it short: Do not use the original ship list for PHost games.
Under the premise that you want a perfectly balanced game: agreed. The
"competition" is better balanced, simply because its creators had much
better tools than Tim had in '93.
Under the premise that you just want the same thing you always played
with THost, go ahead. Sure, combat results will not be 100% identical,
but they will come close. And they will not be 100% balanced, as ever,
but you may not care about that.
Stefan
Well, because we do not use alternative combat settings and _any race
has the same ships_, i do not think there is any worse to use those
ships in the game. That are simple hulls, with a given mass, # of
beams, torps, bays, tubes and ship functions assigned.
I still think that it makes null difference, from which shiplist those
handful ships comes. For this game it's simple: the only big
battleships in the game are Gorbie, Virgo and Dark Wing. A player can
have two of them at max, but one player can have Extra Fighter Bays
assigned while another has for example 150% Lizard damage bonus and
the third player the Fed Scotty bonus chosen.
As i already said, the next racebuilder game will be use all new phost
features like experience, alternative combat and ships from the
current phost shiplist.

dogmas are religious stuff, i do like logic more ;-)

was so in the last 15 years for the most planets games.

Well, there's my answer - thanks folks. If and when I ever get around to
posting my updated pscripts, I'll post them on sourceforge. I guess that'll
make me the new maintainer by default.
