Sometimes I can unload a weapon on someone and not kill them, even at
point-blank range. A player had told me, not sure if he was joking or not,
that there is a cheat that works on-line that reduces your health damage by
half. Anyone know of this, what it is called and if there is an anti-cheat
(like CSHP) for it? It's getting frustrating playing against this one guy
who isn't as good as he seems to be. The server I play on uses CSHP which
cut out about 5 people. I'd like to get rid of this other cheat too.

i noticed this too.. a couple times. I wish i could remember the names of
the player's though.

One example was when I was sniping on CTF-Face and got off a couple of head
shots.. didn't phase the opponent while he continued to fire.

Good enough. Thing is, I wouldn't have given it any thought but more than
one person mentioned this kind of cheat. The problem is, cheaters don't
like to share their secrets as they want that edge, so finding out about
this is difficult. Took a long while for me to find AIMBOT.

Well, it could be lag, but I still wonder...

With a ping of 20-40 and no packet loss issues I've walked up behind an
opponent with the sniper rifle, put the barrel to his head and pulled the
trigger several times in quick succession. Didn't faze him. Yes, there's a
cheat out there.

You got that right. I just had my pants beat off by Aimbot and the
health cheat. They had a good stradegy But thy wanted to win by
cheating. I was the only one in one of the games we played to score a
point, yes just one point. They had people with Aimbots on the CTF-Face
slope to their castle and snipers. And then they think their better
because of it?!

I'm not to happy about that. What's the use to play if you can't win
sometimes?!

I have played wiht 50ping and shot a few sniper shots into their head and
nothing. NNOOOOOOOOO they were not cheating, just a spike where they maybe
be pl and/or high ping, vertialy impossible to measure unless U have the net
stats running and U are looking at them.

I don't believe the health cheat cause there is no basis it can be done on,
unlike the aimbot

That's not necessarily true, anything is possible with the right application
of code. I found a bug a while back where in a couple of maps whilst in
spectator mode, it was possible to "Fall a long way" or be "Incinerated" and
re-spawn (yes in spectator mode) as another pawn which can act as a normal
player, but is un-teamed and cannot be shot.

Timo.

Ok, but don't go by the red RJ45 icon as a signal of packetloss, as it only
appears to signal of lengthy amounts of packetloss. The odd packet that gets
dropped here and there won't cause it to go on, but you will see weird stuff
going on :o)

Hmmm. I've heard loads of events like this, and if I had to place a bet on
what I believe to be a likely cause for this it would be...defects in the UT
network code.

Here are two interesting points that can't be easily fobbed off by the usual
"oh it's lag, oh it's packet loss" excuses.

I've been shot in Instagib games, and only taken about 13 points of health
damage.

People have put six rockets into me, when I have had low health, and have
caused only trivial damage to me. I doubt if they missed because of lag
issues, because the resulting explosions have launched me into the air by a
substantial amount. Indeed on one occasion, I left a small crater on impact
:o)

There's a lot of other stuff too, but I don't wish to be verbose about it.

I have suspected for some time there is a health cheat out there.

Just the other day I was playing on a face map defending the flag and
having a terrible time with a certain player. I would shoot him with a
rocket and he would just fire at me and I was dead. This happened a few
times before I started to spy on his approach to my base and I timed it so i
hit him with a 5 rocket spread!
It blew him clear up to the ceiling and down again and he turned and fired
hie sniper rifle and killed me!
This happened twice before I accused him of cheating... He wouldnt even
respond , just logged off!

Happy fragging.

This could be friendly fire. I've been leading my own players out of my base
(in instagib), and been shot in the back by those behind me. Initial loss of
15 then 10 to end up with 75 life. It's unusual but seems to happen.

But not in an FFA Deathmatch ;o)

I will also mention that I didn't step into anything nasty (lava, etc) that
could have taken away the health too.

Yep, there's a health cheat and a ammo cheat! Because I found the
stinkin Aimbot! I hit them so many time my fingers started to hurt and
I'm keeping the Aimbot for these types of players. It's really nice to
see them suffer, but then again, I can't destroy those who have the
Health cheat. No matter what I do. But I can stop a severe game loss
that I had 2 days ago.. 20 to 1, I was on the losing side. So now its
more like 20-17. :D

Stinkin cheaters! LAMERS!

Don't let them brain wash you into thinking there isn't one!

There may well be a health cheat, but I can also tell you that the
problem is a part of UT as well. I play lan games against 10 others,
none of us cheat, and I've unloaded 6 bullets into the head of a bot
with no effect, and no obvious lag. I found that by moving a little
then zooming in again, I could get the headshot. This has happened a
few times.

Conversely, the person who must be standing still may not even be in
the game... I've seen this often enough. A guy is standing still and I
shot him with the ESR and it goes right through him. I walk up to the
guy and I run in to him but I can't kill him. A few minutes later he
leaves the game. I think he left the game earlier than that but he
wasn't properly disconnected from the server or perhaps he was in the
process of timing out.

Another thing I've seen lately is a guy standing somewhere looking at
the floor and shooting a sniper rifle. I shoot him 10 times and nothing
happens. Suddenly, he disappears and I see him standing on a shelf or
a platform directly above the point he appeared to be previously. Then
it makes sense when you see him shooting down from the higher point.

I was spectating during a recent match between to other clans. One guy
was complaining of problems saying he couldn't move at all. He would
spawn in strange places -- places where no respawn or playerstart point
were located. Then he would have a walking motion but he wouldn't move
from the spawning point. Then, people would shot at him and the shots
would go right through him. Finally, someone shot a redeemer toward
him and he died but the blood splat was some distance from where the
player appeare to be standing. It was all confusing but it illustrates
the problem that a lot of people will immediately call a cheat.

UT has proven to be a buggy network game with a lot of different
versions still in use. My servers are still running 428. I have had
725 connect attempts from people still using the out-of-the-box version
400 of UT (not to mention the retard trying to use version 348 <-- I
don't even know what that is).

Plus, playing over the Internet throws another knuckle ball in to the
mix. Network problems probably cause more of these unwarranted 'cheat'
accusations then anything.

Of course, I used to swear that the aimbot was bullshit so you can see
that I'm full of crap anyway. Still, I generally like to give people
the benefit of the doubt although CSHP has busted a lot of people on my
server so I do not doubt that IF a health cheat existed it would be
used extensively online.

There is a website out there that list cheats for certain games and
they had the aimbot (FunBot) listed back in September before a lot of
people had any idea that it even existed. I haven't been able to find
the site using a search engine and I will not post the link nor e-mail
it to anyone. I am strictly opposed to cheating and will not help
propagate a cheat so please do not bother asking for the URL.

Finally, I know it's hard to play online now where you start to
think "cheat" every time something goofy happens. I guess you have to
find servers that you know and can trust and hope for the best. There
are players out there than can win a game without being killed and
ending the game 30 - 2, I've seen them and played them on the net and
on a LAN. They just have the hardware, ping, skill and luck to pull it
off. The dirty bastards.

You sound like a guy I banned from my server when he logged in and
tried to use the aimbot (FunBot). He then tried to explain that he
needed the FunBot to counterattack other FunBot players and that there
were servers where the admin didn't care if poeple used the FunBot.
Unfortunately for him, everyone that brings funbot to my servers (or
the servers of my clan mates) is instantly banned for life. No one can
use FunBot on our 8 servers so there is no justification for bringing
it along for the ride.

v348 is the demo, I believe...

Well, a couple people admitted to using a health cheat that reduces health
damage by half. They would not share it, for obvious reasons. This is a
player-side cheat like FunBot. I don't know what it is called or anything.
I do know packet loss and poor ping make matters worse, but this one guy
simply must be cheating as other DSLers with good pings complain about how
they shoot and shoot to no avail. Ah well...

As for banning people for life - that is lame. I too hate cheaters, but
simply don't let them connect. Some people might use it for personal use
locally and forget to remove it for online play. For example, I'd use it
for my neice to play as she learned how to control UT... nothing wrong with
that.
To each his own. Some server operators are obsessed with power.

and some server admins would like to provide a place for people to play
where they don't have to worry about cheaters. I hardly think my heavy
handed approach to administration of 2 servers out of 2500 qualifies as
an obsession of power.

And I honestly do not believe that the 20+ people who have tried to
access my server with funbot have all done so mistakely.

It's your server dude, you make the rules. If other players don't like it then tough.
I read lots of BS from people with the aimbot saying they "use it only to learn how to play"
that's crap too, it sounds like it's only useful with hitscan weapons so if people
are too stupid to know how to point their weapon they should maybe go look at the Sims
or some other game like that.
